Financially desperate, overworked, tired heroine meets handsome, forceful Greek millionaire. Sparks fly and by the end of the book they're ready to ride off into the happy ending sunset.
Much of the story uses standard genre cliches, but Ms Shortt's meticulous development of the heroine's character and background was refreshingly original. The novella format doesn't give much room for characterisation. Working within this limitation, the author manages to create a believable, sympathe More...

Andy Jones has met with some misfortune and was working two jobs, until she gets fired from one by her boss, Alexander Ioannou.
At first this story seemed to have lots of clichés: down on her luck poor girl meets billionaire, for instance. However, the author gave it some twists that I liked. She did a top notch job introducing us to Andy. We’re plunged into the story of where she’s working…in a gourmet More...

This was my first book by Emma Shortt. The cover caught my attention and then the preview for the book. I can honestly say I'm interested in reading more books by the author.
Andrea aka Andy, works two jobs that she really needs just to pay off her debts. While at the job Fine Foods own by Alexander, Andy was caught sleeping on the job and was fired. While home, Andy realizes that she has Alexander's wallet by accident and it contains a priceless item securely wrapped in the wallet. W More...

This has some spoilers so, READER BEWARE:
Andy worked 2 jobs to pay off a debt that her ex fiance and ex employee (Andy previously owed a bakery) place on her after her car accident a year earlier.
Andy fell asleep on the job by accident, to only be awoken by Alex, the owner of the grocery store chain. Before Alex could say about her being fired Andy assumed that she was.
While Andy was getting her bag from her employee locker, she accidently dumped her bag. Alex bent over to he More...

The tenderness between the main characters in this contemporary erotic was evident and well-founded within the story. Although Alexander was somewhat pushy—even going so far as to practically kidnap Andy at one point—the author did a good job of creating a believable love story within the tale. While this reader found Alex’s highhanded nature disturbing, and Andy’s willingness to cave to it due to the passion he elicited, somewhat unbelievable due to her nature, other readers might simply fall u

The pace starts off slow but this is more a build-up to the story rather than a mistake by the author. While there are quite a few editing mistakes to the point of having to re-read sentences, I was entranced with the plot. It’s modern Cinderella meets Pretty Woman. Andy is the woman that almost all women can relate to. When things happen, it seems to happen all at once and it’s about to break the camels back. Yet she stil More...

This was an interesting, if a bit predictable, story. I really liked that Andy was so motivated to pay off all of her debts and that she could see how much other people would be affected if she didn't. Granted, they weren't technically her debts, or they shouldn't have been, but she felt the responsibility to pay them off. When Alex decided to find her after firing her, I thought he was a bit high-handed with most of his actions. I'm surprised Andy didn't spit in his face when he asked her to be

"Parts of the story will make you hot, parts will make you cry, and parts will make you mad. The author does a great job making you care for her characters and how everything works out. I’d definitely read something by Emma Shortt in the future."

This was a wonderful read. It was short which I think was its only downfall.
This has some hot sex, blackmail and a lovely romantic ending.
Highly recommend and lets just say the cover is really great to look at too.

Emma Shortt may not have been around long in literary terms but she is certainly making her mark! 'Paying Her Debt' is another example of what she, in my opinion, does best. It's a three-dimensional story with believable characters and a strong plot, well written, relevant sexy scenes and not a heaving bosom in sight. The story, for me, skipped along at a well-maintained pace and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely adult reading. Highly recommended.
