There are distinct comparison from an emotionally-draining read to emotionally-tugging read. I think Infamous had pulled the latter best. I love that sneaky part that somehow played a huge role in this book, more prominent that the first two books in the series.

So, the story began with disaster struck the school ground again with darkest secrets being spilled and people started to accuse each other.Seriously, they should have bathed that ground with holy water or something. First cannibal zombies eating jocks, then football coach demon killer and now this? At this rate, I think the school should be close already. But enough about that, its Nick where we concerned here. So the annoying but kind teen boy Nick was, he was accused of doing all sorts of things that he didn`t do.It kind of fired him up to unleash his Malachai`s powers, but luckily we got Kody to kiss away his grief and dismal. So, yes. He got kissed a lot here, and beaten to death too..Like 3 times? Thus the worried mother. I swear that Nick`s mom got to be the best kickass mom ever written in history of mankind. She absolutely cherished (like her name) her boy. So everytime the kid took a beating, she was all sad like part of her was dead.

I think in this book, Nick had definitely evolved to become a mature mandork and Malachai. Although future still hold uncertainties for him, he was adamant on not repeating what Ambrose did in his past. In this book too, we learned more about the Demons, Gods, Malachai, and little about Kody the mysterious girl that Nick loved. I love the various characters here.Bubba`s mother was a good surprise. We got to see more of Acheron,Kyrian, Caleb, Adarian and even glimpse of goddess Artemis. So yeah, the casts were filled in this book.The writing were witty as usual, more than the second book I think, so yeah.Love that. But the ending I hate. Damn cliffhanger.WTH?!? Who was it..Kody? Jill? I had this feeling that told me Bryanna likes Nick. And Grim...Grotto. Thats a joke for those who`ve read Lemony Snicket`s. Anyway, done for this review..

A good read!Enjoy this one a bunch eventhough the mood was dampened by the realizations that I got tones of assignments to do and school is about to start yet...

It wasn’t because it was dark, I got that, it wasn’t poorly written, it wasn’t about the fact that the world was out to get Harry, No. It was about the fact that 15 year old Harry had a huge attitude. It took me forever to realize that it was the only realistic thing in the book. I had a 15 year old male child at the time and it was like reading a mirror description of what I had at home. Why speak of Harry Potter in a review about Nick Gautier? Well because he too is 15 and Sherry got it oh so right. Yes, his trademark, Nick Gautier attitude is there but so is this dark, seething, brooding male of the human species.

Infamous is much darker than the previous two books and we see Nick’s battle really gearing up. His relationship with Ambrose starts to make sense and we begin to get a peak at how Sherry is going to combine this Nick with the Nicky we have already met and fell in love with the early days of the Dark Hunter Series. We get a lot of information in this book and it leaves the rollicking good time concept of the first two books. But that makes sense, Nick is growing both as an adolescent human and as the Malachai.. The good news, even though it is most indeed darker than the previous books it in no way compares to Sherrie’s offering to suffering and despair, Archeron, although it has it’s moments. I suppose to really understand a character of such depth that Nick is turning out to be we must first understand how they came to where they are. Fortunately for us, we get Nick in pieces instead of all rolled up in one book. This way we still get to see the charming, snarky, pain in the derriere that we call Nick.

Infamous in many ways is about relationships.. Nick’s relationship with Kody, Caleb and most importantly his mother. We also find out about Bubba and his family and get to meet his mother, the dynamics of this relationship come as quite the surprise. It also embraces the concept of creating a family, knowing who your friends are and in learning to trust them. We also learn that sometimes those that you think are on your side, aren’t.

This story begins, the real story not the prologue, as Nick, Kody and Caleb walk into home room and discover that something nasty is happening at the school. First off there are horrid pictures of Brynna Adams (yes one of those Adams) manufactured and posted on computer.. then students are posting rumors and innuendo on another person’s locker.. Then all heck breaks loose as Nick and crew try to get to the bottom of things. Nick has to battle Demons both inner and outer, in this realm and other ones.. He has to fight his mother to be heard, truly heard and worst of all, he is in constant battle with true evil, humans.

Along the way he is beaten, betrayed and not believed. Every time he does what is right, what we know is right someone takes him down for it. He has to battle his way through demons, makes his first sneak appearance into Azmodea and enjoys a rather strange first meeting between Nick and Asmodeus. Ok, could a meeting between those two be anything but strange? But I giggled my way through it, I couldn’t help myself. Adarian Malachai makes his presence felt and in doing so we learn a few interesting facts about why Nick can be saved.. Nicky also makes a deal with someone that infuriates an unbelieving Ambrose.

As I previously stated Infamous is a dark, brooding, cacophony of the demons that control us but it has it’s fun moments and it is endearing in the way Nick continues to really want to be normal, human and good. Yes, Nick has way more battles ahead but he shows such promise. Maybe Ambrose will finally be happy. Do I recommend this book, heck yeah.. it is a must read for those who are following Nick’s chronicles but more than that it stands as a wonderful example as why Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of the leading PNR writers today.

WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Another awesome book by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I have been waiting for this one since Invincible and it was so worth it. Nick continues to grow but never losing his hilarious cajun roots. I was literally laughing out loud on serveral occasions, which was not good because I was at working listening to the audiobook. Are you trying to get me fired Ms. Kenyon? I found Nick less irritating in this book than in the previous ones. I guess he must be maturing.

Things aren't going well. Someone is spreading vicious rumors and horrible pictures of Nick's classmates that's causing the students serious emotional and physical harm. And, his demon Father finally decides it's time to make his play against Nick. Nick spends much of the book getting beat up, verbally abused and unconscious. Not a good time.

Again the story line is interesting and strong. I wish the dialogue were elevated a bit more, I think our youth can read better than we give them credit for (think Hunger games, or even harry potter). This is Kenyon's third installment of the series Chronicles of Nick and just like her latest book, I did not enjoy this one at all. It lacked good action and her characters are not interesting anymore.

Nick: Nick (older, DH version) is more interesting than this kid who keeps on getting grounded by his mom. This Nick is just a high-school kid going through puberty and learning about the DH world. Some people may like this Nick series, but I don't because I just don't find the kid version of him i...more This is Kenyon's third installment of the series Chronicles of Nick and just like her latest book, I did not enjoy this one at all. Nick: Nick (older, DH version) is more interesting than this kid who keeps on getting grounded by his mom. This Nick is just a high-school kid going through puberty and learning about the DH world. Some people may like this Nick series, but I don't because I just don't find the kid version of him interesting. Caleb, Kody, etc.. they're just not interesting. Besides, we all know Nick is going to die at some point and become a DH. If anything, Kenyon should have made a 1000-page on Nick like she did with Acheron and what she's going to do with Styxx (I'm pretty sure he's going to get a big book). Nick's series just adds more confusion to everything that's going on right now.

Acheron: because this is a young-adult book, I don't find this guy interesting either. We all know who he is and I just can't find him interesting anymore. To me, Acheron will always be that little bitch because he rarely stands up for himself. Yes, he may have defeated some people, but it's always the "if I touch him, this this and that will happen". It's as if anybody he kills will have an awful consequence. Nick can't die, Jared can't die, Acheron can't die, Artemis can't die, Noir can't die, etc.... Can I please Acheron kill one of the major douche characters please? Other than that, he'll always be a little bitch.

Kyrian: He's annoying.

Amiee, Dev, Remi, Wren, etc.... their books came and went, they're just there now. I don't really care what happens.

I am a fan of the DH series because it's very complex. You have Gods, Demons, Daimos, Malachai, etc... but I feel as if Kenyon is just dragging on to the series (earning more money) to a point where people aren't going to give a shit. The only interesting characters left so far are Jared, Jaden, Thorn, and Savitor. Once these four have their books written, the DH series is going to have to end UNLESS she continues with completely different witht the children of these characters and everything's switched like the children of the bad guys are good instead of evil; but in that case she would have to give it another name. I wonder if that's why EVERY SINGLE FEMALE IN EVERY BOOK ALWAYS GETS PREGNANT?! That's another annoying thing too. Kenyon's characters don't know what a condom is.

But anyway...

(view spoiler)[A very angry classmate of Nick's is one of the main enemies of this book. The person starts off by presenting some highly pornographic photoshopped images of one of the nicest girls in the school. Then a website is launched revealing all sorts of sordid secrets about the students, pointing the finger at other students as the source of the information. Nick is targeted by an angry classmate and basically gets his head bashed in, almost dying (the first time this happens in this book). Eventually things escalate to a point where Nick is accused of theft and rape. He's arrested and now bears the same stigma as his father - an incarcerated felon. After posting bail, Nick is then attacked by the accuser's father and has his head bashed in again. At this point he sees a demon come out of the man and realizes who the culprit is. He and his friends confront the girl who is then forced into confessing. That along with the proof the site was hers clears his name and gets the accuser sent to jail.

To be honest, at the point Nick was arrested for rape, I wanted to throw the book across the room. I realize this kind of thing happens in real life but it just seemed kind of sordid to me in a book for teenagers about a 15 year old.

The other plot line regarding Nick and his father was much more interesting. We get to see more of the demon side of Nick and also see the development of more of his powers, including the ability to throw a fireball. His relationship with Nekoda becomes more serious and he finally realizes he is in love with her, something completely unheard of for a Malachai.

The best part of Kenyon's books tends to be the cliffhanger at the end. This time she has Grim reveal that Nekoda's purpose is to slay the Malachai (Nick). Hopefully the next volume will not be such a letdown.

Along with a less than desirable story line, the editing was horrid. There were too many grammatical errors. Some were so bad that my reading flow was disrupted. However, I am a big fan of Nick and I do look forward to the next volume, which I hope will be as good as the first two.

Some praise should be given to the author for trying to tackle the serious issue of people maliciously spreading lies about others to destroy them. Videos and images get posted as jokes to hurt those in them. People have had their lives ruined over such crude behavior and have gone so far as to kill themselves or others. Targeting young readers with this topic could prove to be influential in stopping this kind of behavior. We can only hope so.

While Ambrose remained all cryptic and mysterious, he did actually explain a lot of things which finally put to rest some of the burning questions I’d had since book one. That’s not to say I still don’t have questions, because I do. Many. New ones, even. But hopefully this will tide me over until the next book.

Speaking of new questions though, Adarian. Wow. What. Confusion. I always thought it was strange that he seemed protective over Nick’s mother, but I just don’t understand how it was possible that he actually loved her. After what he did...and I was wary about his plans for Nick, but now, after finding out about Nick’s brother in Invincible and the second mention of him in Infamous...I am actually a bit scared to see what will happen next. Plus, how is it even possible that Nick’s father had another son? Wouldn’t that mess up the whole Malachai existence? Ahh, I NEED to know more!

Nick, while keeping his amazing sense of humour, learnt a lot of things in this book, and experienced a lot of changes. He also did something that I reckon will change everything, considering how angry Ambrose and Caleb were when they found out about it. Seriously, he barely thought about the consequence. Even I can tell that nothing good will come out of what happened. I also definitely want to find out more about Artemis, who showed up unexpectedly. So far, we’ve found out very little about her and I am very curious about her actions in this book and what motivated them. She seemed to be all nice and kind on the outside, but to be honest, I didn’t trust her at all. I have a feeling something big will happen because of her.

The bullying that occurred in Infamous was horrible and showed that humans could be just as bad, if not worse, than demons. Something Caleb said about human cruelty really made me think about things – though he was a demon, he seemed to be one of the ones most disgusted by what was going on. When Nick was badly hurt as a result of some of the things happening, it was great to see how many people were there to support him. He had definitely changed from the lonely kid in the first book and had a lot of friends on his side.

Kyrian and Acheron didn’t appear as much in this book, though we did learn some more about Acheron. I really wanted to find out more about both their pasts – Kyrian, especially, because he seemed so nice yet clearly had another side to him and also seemed to be full of pain and regret.

The cliffhanger in this book, damn it! Just when we were close to finding out more about Kody – bam, it ended. Leaving me wanting more with months and months to think about it. I seriously can’t wait for Inferno! Looking forward to seeing what Nick will do next. There seemed to be a crazy amount of people after him in this book, so it’ll be interesting to see how he plans to avoid getting caught in the future. Also, Kody of course. When will someone weasel some information out of her?! :P

Overall, Infamous was another great book in an action-paced and hilarious series, and I’ve been left to curse at the release date of Inferno. If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly recommend you grab a copy of book one and start now! You’ll be addicted before you know it.(less)

I am such a huge fan of SK work- especially her DH and CON series. This one ended w/ such a cliff hanger I wanted to cry. I listened to the audiobook and I actually rewound it to see if I missed something. I didn't. ugh- I can't wait for the next one to come out. Ok and I am curious how this is going to work into the overall DH universe. Everything is so different from what happened in the entire DH series up until this point.

This is the third book in the "Cronicles of Nick" and you probably need to read it if you want to continue the series. I honestly consider to wait with the next books a few years. Why?

Third in the Chronicles of Nick urban fantasy series focusing on Nick Gautier as a child. (Sort of runs parallel with the Dark-Hunters series.)

My Take
The theme song here is of fighting and love. All within the ADD of teen hormones and Malachai tendencies with an interesting exploration of the effects of love which helps Nick figure out how to combat his own demonic nature. Having said that I won’t bother reading any more of Kenyon’s books in my review of Invincible, I’m not quite sure why I picked this book up. I was reading Above by Leah Bobet, and not really enjoying it so maybe that’s why, but I’m pleasantly surprised by the fact that I didn’t hate Infamous.

Whereas I found the humour and sarcasm in the first two books irritating and overdone, I actually laughed at some of Nick’s antics in this one. I even liked him…and I’m feeling a bit confused by it.

Did someone swap out the Ms. Kenyon I've been dutifully following? I did not like this book at all. This book was a hot mess for me. The characters

The Cherise in the other timeline is a loving mother who does her best for her son. In this one, she's a shrieking harpy. She's the one who stands out most in this book.

This book is a clown car. The cast of characters coming out of this storyline is like the circus clown cars where no one is exactly sure how all those clown fit in it and when another one will pop out. I can't even list everyone who showed up as a minor part.

The plot

Everyone wants something from Nick. That is basically what I see. This book is littered with caricatures of concepts which are beaten over our head over and over again. Never love a woman; she'll betray you. Suicide is the most selfish act in the world. Clockwork Orange syndrome Nick refused to defend himself to please his psychotic mother. These are just to name a few.

I honestly don't know what happened here. I love Ms. Kenyon's books. They are usually books that I enjoy because someone is doing there best at a second chance for redemption. While this book on the surface seems to be this way, with Nick fighting his in born nature, the entire book leaves me feeling dirty with the sheer amount of malice, teen angst, drama and petty violence. I'm a bit disgusted and quite disappointed.

The story jumped around and at one point I was wondering if I was tripping acid. From the nether realm to the hospital confrontation of his maternal grandparents and the Fringe...was I at a play where I left during key parts of certain acts so I missed the transition? At this point, I don't care. This book is the last in the series I'm going to read. It just doesn't do it for me. I can't fathom who I can recommend this book to read. (less)

To be honest, throughout the book i feel like the author leaves substance to the setting, never as concrete and in the first two books the plot in my opinion was semi-loose. I am a huge Kenyon fan. I'll be upfront about that. I've read her Dark Hunter series for years and became hooked on The League when it was republished. Even with all that I was worried when the first of her young adult series, the Chronicles of Nick: Infinity, came out a 3 years ago. I wasn't sure she would be able to incorporate everything I love about her work into a young adult format, but I was so wrong. All the humor, sarcasm, and style remain; all that is missing is the sex (and hey, he's a teen so it's not there yet).

From what I've read she intends to have a book in this series for every year of Nick's life up until he became a Dark Hunter, so 10 books to cover ages 14 to 24. I'm not sure she's only going to have 10 books to make that goal. The first 3 seem to cover from 14 to 15.

While I liked Nick in the Dark Hunter series, he was never my favorite. Now with his own series, you get to know him better and see the background and thoughts behind all the snark. I think he may end up becoming my favorite of all her characters. He is smart, has a great if self deprecating humor, and a good heart. That does seem to be her template for heroes though. They are all smart, good looking, snarky, and must overcome a horrible past to be able to accept love. Even with that template, the books never feel formulaic or repetitive. She brings a fresh feel each and every time.

She also generally has a lesson or moral to her tales. For parents, the underlying themes are great ones for kids to learn.

"Life was so strange. Seldom did it make sense. As her brother would say, 'life isn't a puzzle to be solved. It's an adventure to be savored. Let every challenge be a new mountain to climb, not an obstacle to get in your way and stop you. Yeah, it'll be hard, but once you reach the summit of it, you'll be able to see the world for what it really is. And at the top, it never seems to have been as difficult a feat to climb there as you first made it out to be. Most of all, you'll know that you beat that mountain, and that you rule it. It does not rule you.'"

And, this one, which is in all of her writings. I wish more people thought of life like this.

"People aren't just ants rushing around over a crust of bread. Every life, no matter how isolated, touches hundreds of others. It's up to us to decide if those micro connections are positive or negative. But whichever we decide, it does impact the ones we deal with. One word can give someone the strength they needed at that moment or it can shred them down to nothing. A single smile can turn a bad moment good. And one wrong outburst or word could be the tiny push that causes someone to slip over the edge into destruction."

Words matter as do even the smallest actions. Even when you're tired, smile, and share a few friendly words. Say please and thank you. Be kind. Everyone has bad days and your actions may be the only pleasant thing in that person's day. This is something that hits me whenever I read one of her books.

Every time I start thinking life might be looking up it knocks me down and kicks me. When I read one of Kenyon's books, it gives me hope because her characters face so many horrible things, but they keep moving forward through the pain and fear trying to be better people. They remind me that what doesn't kill you may hurt a lot, but it still makes you stronger.(less)

I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this book. It is young adult technically but there are so many spots that really hit me as thought provokingly amazing that I see no reason why fans of the Dark-Hunter series wouldn't also enjoy this series. I've only read about 10 of the books in the adult series, it is hard to catch up when there are 20+ books, but I have enjoyed them and enjoy this YA series even more.
