Once, the vampire Dylan had feared nothing and no one. He'd rampaged throughout the world on a seemingly never ending quest to fill his eternal years with the finest, most outrageous extravagances; with exquisite, soft-limbed young women and copious amounts of rich, vibrating blood. But life, however full of joy, inevitably changes.

Finding himself alone for the first time...more

Recommends it for: over 18's horror readers
I found this book difficult to get through at first - it seemed the characters were devoid of any redeeming features and so impossible to care about. I struggled on however, and I'm glad I did. The characters/plot and writing improved greatly.

I recommend this book to fans of horror and fantasy, who are over 18 yrs old because it's pretty 'horrific' and cold-bloodied: an example is eating the organs of a living womans body as she screamed in agony. Not a pleasant picture.

For anyone that is a fan of vampire literature this is a book not to miss. I was intrigued when I first read about it and am glad I decided to read it. I was hooked almost instantly and didnt want to put it down once I started.

The main characters are Dylan - a vampire and Christa - who is what you could call a witch, but her origins are somewhat mysterious. They meet in the unlikely location of a Jinn bar one night and end up traveling together.

The character progression is very well done as well...more

This book was broken into three parts. The first part was a little slower for me than the second two. It begins with Christa meeting Dylan and their tour around the United States where they meet up with the Jinn, a murderous and decadent group. (To add a slight disclaimer here, there was some graphic violence in this part. I would say it's not for the weak of heart!) Dylan, thinking he’s the last of his kind, is desperate for companionship, and Christa, afraid of her own uniqueness, feels safe w...more

I’m damn close to being the ultimate vampire fan, I think, and I have to admit that the premise for Jinn Nation was fascinating: vampires have been hunted to extinction, a new supernatural race is vying for control, and a couple of unlikely characters seem to be chosen by fate to navigate these difficult times as saviors or betrayers of helpless mankind.

However, there were several things that didn’t work for me, which was a pity because I could tell that the potential for a great story was there...more

Mandy's Review:

Despite the inundation of vampires since the Twilight movies, I never seem to grow tired of reading about them. Perhaps it's because they're sexy as hell. Perhaps it's because I love my neck bitten and imagining a vampire doing that is extremely erotic. Whatever it is, I love vampires ... but I'm not sure that I love Dylan.

He's tall, dark and handsome, of course, but there's just something about his personality that I'm not attracted to. I think it's the fact that he's so needy of...more

My initial reaction was this book is not for me! As I had won an e-book on a blog giveaway and had been asked for a review, I persevered. I am glad that I did! I have read Vampire books (not many) and enjoyed those. This book is a combination of vampires, cannibals termed Jinn, fairy like creatures and a girl with the ability to see into the minds of others - quite a combination. Although the gore element was not overdone it was a little excessive for me, the jinn are quite a turnoff! I also que...more

Easily the worst book I have read this year!!

The writing is florid, the characterisations flat, high on horror and low on anything even remotely redemptive.....

I wanted to quit after the first couple of pages (something I almost never do) but it seems unreasonable to rate a book without reading it all the way through. And I need to rate it (to remind me not to buy anything else by this author...) Unkind but true.

Jinn Nation was very well written with a lovely writing style that flows so well. It is a unique and original story brining new mythologies to the sort of stale paranormal genre.
