California. A widower’s twelve-year-old son is rather young to bring home a woman, especially a collapsed green beauty too frightened to open her eyes.

Arizona. A divorcee blinks hard, but the gorgeous red guy stepping in front of her car is still red—hello, ditch. When she comes around, she wonders which layer of hell she’s fallen into.

Ohio. A teen also fears he’s dealing...more

I'm 60% done with Splintered Energy: The book reminds me of China Mievelle in that the author is building a whole new world-picture. Not as fully built as China's worlds, but nevertheless just as strange. I'm enjoying the story - and enjoy that it's not laid out in perfect pieces end-to-end to understand, but instead some thinking is required. I'm already looking forward to sequels.

First of all I want to say that the author can write! Really descriptive scenes that put me right into the world. Additonally each character was complex, full of personality, and had me rooting for them the whole way.

However, I was unable to finish this book for one maine reason. There were just too many confused point-of-views. Usually that is not a problem, but the characters didn't know what was going on or where they were.... therefore I, the reader, didn't know what was going on or where...more

Arlene Webb did a smashing job on Splintered Energy. Fascinating premise. The characters are well-drawn. The writing is excellent.

HOWEVER, I hate a cliff-hanger ending for a book. I'll have to find out what happens to Malcolm, Jade, Narcci, Damon, Caream, and the humans they enchant by reading reviews or something. Maybe if I can find a super markdown on the other books, I might want to read them. Here's the problem. I only have so much time for reading, so I'm unlikely to want to jump into anot...more

I wasn't expecting such an excellent novel when I downloaded this. The writing flowed and dragged me along on a puzzling and exciting trip. I've never read anything like it. Arlene Webb has woven a fantastic tale of emotions drawn out of colours and the random bodies they inhabit. I became totally engrossed and couldn't wait to read the nest section. Close to the end, I couldn't see how it would end. I must admit to disappointment that further reading would be needed to sort everything out. Easy...more

I haven't been so sucked into a story in quite a while!!! I'm all in!! This is great! It's Earth-based science fiction with believable and endearing characters. The "aliens" are pure color/energy who are bewildered to find themselves in physical bodies on our world. They, somehow, landed in human bodies and took on some of the personality traits -good and bad - of the humans they displaced. They're lost, confused, incredibly powerful, and just want to go home. I'm going to buy the rest of the bo...more

I’m sorry to say that this novel just wasn’t for me. There was so much going on within the story, and so many characters, that I was unable to follow the plotline enough to fully understand what was happening. There were some great descriptions, and the characters were very interesting, but I personally felt like there were a bit too many to keep track of, and as I read I became overwhelmed. Now, I’m the type of reader that likes two or maybe even three narrators/main characters, but I generally...more

Splintered Energy truly is a quite unique and fun story. Sentient light splintered and trapped in human bodies with all the turmoil of emotions makes for sometimes hilarious, sometimes heart-wrenching encounters and situations. Filled with fascinating characters, real humans and colorful rays of light, Splintered Energy is a beautifully written, fun read about human nature.

An excellent story in a very colorful world. The biggest minus with the tale is that it doesn't really end. The book ends without any closure in the story. But that is a common issue with series. I can't wait to read the next one in the series to find out what happens to the characters, both human and alien.

I can't remember a book that captured my imagination more than when i started the Foundation series by Asimov. Ms. Webb's writing style just grabbed me and engulfed me into her world of colors. I just purchased the next in series looking forward to my next spectral journey. Highly recommended.

I was drawn in by the promising hook and the action. Really enjoyed how different this book is both in premise and in the way the characters are portrayed. Reads like an action comic combined with urban fantasy.

Definitely a good read!

Splintered Energy is a very unique and mysterious story. Disappointingly, the answer to the big mystery isn't actually answered in this book, but the pursuit of solving the mystery is the underlying driving force for the character development and the many interesting subplots. This is a story about the journey. Overall the unique characters and interesting predicaments make this story a worthwhile read.

Almost tempted to knock it down a star because I really think books in series should each stand alone - at least a little. Splintered Energy ended abruptly. I had no choice but to download book 2 (The R Word) as I'm hooked.

I absolutely love Ms. Webb's unique voice. For a change in the usual, and something that will engage your gray matter, this book is a must.

This was an interesting concept but it just didn't deliver for me. Lots of repetitive "action" and dialogue.

Can't wait to read the final version! Loved it. Arlene has a unique voice that rivets readers to each page.

Despite the way the book was written and certain aspects of the of it, the concept of the story was brilliant: a spectrum of colours (energy) manifesting in a human host and their attempts to find out who they are, and get back home. Unfortunately, the ending just left you hanging, with no resolution, therefore forcing you to buy the second book, which I ended up doing in order to see what happens next.

We all know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. Yet, that’s exactly why I bought this book—the cover completely captivated and intrigued me. Then I started reading and Arlene Webb’s amazing imagination and way cool characters took over. The moment I was done, I immediately downloaded the sequel, The R Word, and started reading.
