I almost goes without saying that I loved Miss Buncle’s book – I say almost – because there are in the world those who are not aware of the wonderful books published by Persephone and so therefore may not have read Miss Buncle’s book as DE Stevenson books seem pretty hard to come by these days. I received this book for Christmas and have been looking forward to it enormously. It didn’t disappoint, in fact I fairly gulped it down. It looks like a fairly thick Persephone book, one that may h More...

This is my first D.E. Stevenson book and my first Barbara Buncle. Miss Buncle Married is the second in a series, but I found it completely enjoyable as a stand-alone read. Steven did such a good job of creating the complete world of Wandlebury, where Arthur and Barbara Buncle Abbott start over, that I didn't feel I was missing background information. Instead, it was enjoyable to see Barbara's evolution as she finds out more about herself as she thinks and writes and lives among the people in th

Miss Buncle Married is the sequel to the delightfully charming Miss Buncle's Book. I found Miss Buncle Married to be almost as delightful as the first.
Miss Buncle is now Mrs. Abbott but marriage has done little to stop her from finding herself mixed up in little humorous scraps and trying to, innocently, sort out other people's lives.
I think Barbara's husband, Arthur Abbott, does the best job of summing up Barbara. "The strangest thing about Barbara, Arthur reflected, the strang More...

"Jerry was like bread, he thought. She was like good wholesome wheaten bread, spread thickly with honest farm butter; and the thought crossed his mind, that a man might eat bread for ever and ever, and not tire of it, and that it would never clog his palate like sweet cakes or pastries or chocolate eclairs."
Buttered bread! Buttered toast! And with crumpets working as leitmotifs, how can I not warm to the Miss Buncle books? This one is just as charming-yet-substantial as Mis More...

not *quite* as good as Miss Buncle's Book, but still pretty good. Barbara is now married to Arthur Abbot, and bored of the socialising they seem unable to get out of, they decide to move instead.
Finally they find a place that Barbara can "do up" whilst allowing Arthur to still work in Town.
Apart from Sam and his new girlfriend, the supporting characters are not as "large" as in the previous book, but that might be a good thing, to prevent Stevenson fro More...

I liked this even better than the first in the series. The first was totally enjoyable and well and is a must to understand this one. I found this one laugh out loud funny and enjoyed the perspective and quirky characters and I am tracking down the third now. Seriously, someone should reprint this series.

Maybe three and a half stars. I am enjoying the D.E. Stevenson books. Nice light reads. The writing is sound, I enjoy the humor, and I can see where some of them could join my list of "comfort reads."

I enjoyed this sequel to the wonderful Miss Buncle’s Book, especially a chapter focused on one of Barbara’s dizzying binge-writing episodes, until the shockingly retrograde ending gave me whiplash. Ow. Sigh.

Although I didn't like this one as much as Miss Buncle's Book, it was still good. I love D.E. Stevenson's books

Amusing follow up to Miss Buncle’s book; Miss Buncle is now Mrs. Abbott and has moved to another village, but can’t help meddle in the affairs of her neighbors. Slight, but charming.

Even more fun than the first. I really enjoyed seeing the larger than life characters through the eyes of Miss Buncle's innocent, non-judgmental eyes. I became quite enamored of her. Unfortunately it had some vain references to Deity, which made it less enjoyable than it could have been, but overall just a happy testament to marriage.

This is the sequel to the delightful Miss Buncle's Book and is equally charming.
Miss Buncle has now married and she and her publisher husband have moved house, giving Barbara a whole new set of people to observe. But can she resist depicting them in print and upsetting this perfect new life?

Tout aussi drôle et charmant que le premier. Un vrai bonheur de lecture !

What's not to love about Miss Buncle? She's naive, she's funny, she's British, and in this book, she happens to be married. I enjoyed the deepening of her character and the new cast of characters in this book. Pure delight.

There are 3 Buncle books and they are great fun. It's a blast to read about a woman with little self esteem who disrupts a whole town because she doesn't have an imagination. She writes about the town and has to leave in a rush.
This is the further adventures of Barbara trying not to do it again.

I completely enjoyed this book, especially Arthur Abbott. With the author's bows to Jane Austen, how could I not like it. Somehow, though, it was just a shade less satisfying than Miss Buncle.

Good cozy English village comfort reading. [Read as part of the compendium: _Miss Buncle_, which contains both _Miss Buncle's Book_ and _Miss Buncle Married_]

The sequel to 'Miss Buncle's Book'. Very little happens and the style is rather repetitive but the characters are as charming as ever.

This book is definitely light hearted reading, full of innuendos and dry humor. I have re-read it several times.

Not as great as the prequel, but still worth the read if you enjoyed Miss Buncle's Book.
