If you are interested in reading mysteries that do not give you all of the answers until close to the end then "Death Before Swine" is a book for you. The main character, Ben Hart, is not the typical good looking, muscle bound, debonair hero that many portray in books today. He is an average Joe who is trying to get along as a teacher in the high school that he graduated from a decade before. Matter of fact he spends more time taking punches then he does giving them and when he does give a punch...more

I discovered this book on the Why is my book not selling? blog. I was tantalized enough to click through to Amazon and get a sample, and at the end of the sample there was no way I wasn't going to read the whole story.

This is a cozy mystery kind of book, with an amateur sleuth, in this case the very likeable Ben Hart, a chemistry teacher at the local high school. Drama and action ensues.

I've read a few cozies, some try so hard to be funny that it becomes irritating, but in my opinion V.K Scott...more

I won a free copy of this, but it's definitely worth far more than free! I loved this book and especially the main character. Ben Hart is just what I like in an amateur detective and in a narrator. He's an all-around nice guy, well-meaning, and he stumbles into his "job" before he even realizes what's happening. He's a regular guy with regular guy problems...who just happens to be wrapped up in a murder investigation. Combine him with good secondary characters and a well-crafted mystery, and I'm...more

This is a detective story in the truest sense of the genre. In an age when stories are full of vampires, zombies, and other supernatural characters, Death Before Swine brings us back to the real investigative story packed with twists and turns and I can almost bet the reader won't have a clue who did what until the last few pages. The author even manages to make some of the most horrible characters likeable in a sense or at least understood concerning their actions. A great small-town type myste...more

The first in new mystery series, Death Before Swine introduces Ben Hart, a chemistry teacher, who is caught up in the misdeeds of his colleagues at his hometown high school. First Ben's classroom is ruined in a chemical explosion, then a treasured school icon is destroyed and the school principal is quick to blame Ben's teaching methods, firing him. Ben suspects these pranks are hiding something more sinister though and when the football coach is murdered, he decides to investigate.

The plot of D...more

Ben Hart has just been suspended from teaching at his old high school when he finds the football coach dead. The coach's daughter has asked him to investigate since he is the only one that seems to want to find the truth about what happened. Ben takes the job with trepadation and startes to find clue after clue. Well written comedy murder mystery store. Laugh out loud funny and was a great way to spend the afternoon in the sun. Can't wait to read more Hart adventures.

Coming from a debut author, this was actually a very good mystery and suspense and at time humorous novel. You never know what will happen thus it will keep you reading and it was easy to relate to Ben Hart and his lady love Rosemary Cobb. I did not expect the ending, it was actually very emotional something, again, I did not expect. Itn also set-up what mioght happen in book 2 and I'm excited to read the next one. Kudos to Mr. Scott.

V.K. Scott writes mystery novels. Before his characters started chasing suspects and dodging bullets, V.K.'s pen drew exclusively across the papers of high school English students. While his red ink still flies through stray commas and criminal misspellings by day, by night V.K. Scott hammers out his own twisted tales of crime and detection.

V.K. lives with his wife and son in Phoenix, Arizona. In...more
