It’s astounding to think this is the twelfth book in this series, yet it is just as solid and entertaining as the first. Although not the most spectacularly written books ever created, The Morganville Vampires series is incredibly engaging and each book full of humour, friendship and action. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the characters, from sarcastic and tough Shane to hilariously crazy Mrynin. Each and every one is memorable in some way or another and each and every character is a d...more
Black Dawn....ooooooh sounds all mysterious and dark.
I looooooove these books, don't get me wrong, but does anyone else want them all to be happy for five minutes or just get the fucking balls to run out of town for good? Or can't these kids just figure out that their town is going to hell and to just leave? I find myself feeling that sometimes, but I still love these books.
Also, I found the last book significantly creepier than the other eleven of them. Anyone? Anyone think that either? I'm ju...more

What Morganville Vampires book isn't amazing? I can't wait for this.
~Edit 2012 September~
I've always liked Morganville as I've stated above. I expected a lot from this book--maybe too much. For starters, I got the book, read the first chapter, and let it sit in a corner for weeks. It didn't interest me, in fact, it bored me. When I finally decided to pick it up again I had to tell myself "it will get better. Just keep reading and finish it." It didn't. I found the constant shift in prospective a...more

Could this series get any more exciting? This by far is the best in the series. Full of action though out the book, lots of twists and turns that will keep you wanting more and wondering what is going to happen next. You even get to the point where you are questioning a lot of the characters and their in-tensions towards Morganville itself. There are a few deaths along the way, and the four main characters are never far from danger, as always the main ones for that is Claire and Shane but what c...more

I tell myself every time I finish one of these books not to bother reviewing it since I sound like a freaken broken record. It's true, just read the 11 past reviews. But at last, I simply can't resist gushing about how un-freaken-believable this series is!
In the lastest episode, Black Dawn, Claire and the gang continue to fight off a common enemy between humans and vampires. Magnus and his hive of draugs.

Really kind of indifferent to this one. I think the author should have ended with 12 books as was originally intended. If that was the case this would have been the final book and I think there would have been more finality to it. Instead there will be at least 3 more books. This one seemed more forced and repetitive; filler as the author figured out how she was going to further stretch this story. It is also the first in the series that I can remember to be a continuation (as in the very next d...more
I love The Morganville Vampires series with all my heart. I've read all the books to date a few times and I only do that with absolute all-time favourites. I tend to complain when a series just goes on and on but seriously? I don't want this one to end, ever. I don't know how I can ever let go of these wonderfully developed characters and their scarily addictive story. Everything about these books just draw me in and refuses to let go. They're so incredibly gripping and entertaining. The only ba...more
In my quest to find my daughters good YA fantasy series, I have read lots which can be roughly classified into 4 groups:
1) those that fall flat right from the first book and are therefore not worth following;
2) those that spark your interest in the first book , or first few books, but cannot sustain the oomph factor to hold readers’ interest;
3) those that start off well and plod along with mediocre sequels but feed the readers enough interesting content (mainly cliffhangers) to keep them hang...more

Everything about the Morganville vampire’s series is getting so repetitive and tiresome. This book is so similar to previous books in the series – Claire and co are in danger. Michael broods. The gang try and come up with a solution to said danger which requires them moving from A to B for some reason or another. Eve makes smart-alecky remarks. Whist moving from A to B there’s a fight with the bad guys. Michael broods some more. Claire and co think they’re dead but somehow manage to survive the...more

Michael Glass didn't scream. Instead, he made a terrible keening noise in the back of his throat, arched his back, and began to flail violently inside his zipped-up sleeping bag. Fabric shredded under vampire strength, and insulation bulged out of the tears as he fought his way free, but even once it was off him he just kept… flailing."

Black Dawn was the perfect fix for my Morganville addiction. I wait for six to seven months for each release to finally hit the shelves and when they do, I’m one of the first in line to download my eBook and hide in my room for a couple of days. This is one of the few storylines where I don’t mind if they continue indefinitely. Typically, for most series I invest in, I’m usually eager to see the final conclusion approach, but with Morganville I actuall...more

Black Dawn is the twelfth book in the Morganville Vampire series, and the momentum has not slowed down. Wow. What an accomplishment for Rachel Caine. In Black Dawn, the residents are still being plagued by the horrible draug who have infested Morganville. Many including Michael and Amelie were hurt by the draug in the last book, Last Breath. The draug live in water, even the smallest puddle, and have a way of calling to vampire similar to the sirens of mythology. The vampires can't help but go w...more
The Morganville Vampires series is a long-standing favorite of mine. Seriously, I’ve been reading these installments since 2007, when a friend of mine introduced me to it after the first couple of books were already out. This is same friend who introduced me to Vampire Academy, so I usually liked her recommendation (and that she let me borrow her books, when the library here is totally archaic with new releases). I’ll pretty much read anything that Rachel Caine comes out with.

It's book 12 and I still enjoy it. Every time they defeated a villain I thought this might be the last book, then six months later a new book was published. I pretty much enjoyed every book except the 10th book.

Now that the draug have infected Morganville no place is safe for Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve. Hiding in Founders square with a few remaining humans and vampires they fight for their survival against an enemy that travels by water. If things weren't bad enough Queen Vampire Amelia has been bitten by Master draug Magnus and is dying, Oliver is posed to take over as leader of Morganville, and Claire's is in danger because she is the only person that can Magnus.

Another solid four star addition to The Morganville Series. This installment served to bring to a close the major plot point from it's previous installment, Last Breath, and all I have to say about this is halleluya! I wasn't a big fan of the last big bad, seemed kind of ridiculous to me as a matter of fact (what they were seemed ridiculous, what they did was deadly... I can't believe they are the vampires mortal enemies). But now that this installment, and thus the big plot line, has come to an...more
TAKE NOTE: I recently read all of the morganville series with barely a breath between each book. By doing this I didn't write a review for any singular book as I went along, and now I've updated my account I don't think I'd be able to just talk about one book at a time, so this review actually takes into consideration every morganville book so far... Spoilers may be included :)

Black Dawn is the 12th book in the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. It picks up right where Last Breath left off. Morganville is in total chaos after the battle with the Draug. The one enemy that the vampires have tried to evade for centuries. Most of the Morganville inhabitants have been evacuated due to the danger lurking, literally, everywhere in Morganville. The ones still in town are trying valiantly to come up with a way to defeat, and ultimately kill, the Draug. The fact that...more
Black Dawn picks up right where Last Breath ended. Morganville is overrun by the draug (think water vampires) and our gang is hiding out in city hall with the vampires. Amelia has been bitten by the draug and is slowly changing into one. The town is in chaos and the gang has to figure out how to kill the draug once and for all.
I know there are more books coming in this series but this would have been a great place to end things. I am not sure what else this series can come up with. We have had b...more

ONe of the things that for me makes this series work is that Caine has always been willing to put her characters through pain and suffering instead of keeping them in a safe bubble where they can do all these incredible adventures with no consequences. She is fearless in harming her characters until it brings tears to your eyes. And the harm in this one is chilling, makes you look at that glass of water sitting next to you with careful attention or watch out for the puddles the next time it rain...more

I don't know if it's my prejudice on the books far down in a series or it just didn't live up to my expectation.
Since Last Breath, the appearance of the draug, I feel that the series has somehow strayed away from the original story and concept.
Much has changed but I guess it's how to keep the series going right?
I did not like the introduction of the draug.
And I've been trying to ask myself why.
Maybe it's how it made the Morganville vampires look weak.

Twelfth in the Morganville Vampire urban fantasy series for young adults revolving around four fast friends and the trials and tribulations of living in a vampire-run town in Texas.
