Originally.....Collide was way WAY longer, almost 500 pages when I finished. So I cut it shorter and added it to the beginning of Uprising (Hence the part 1 and part 2) I loved writing this book as much as the first because I got to add some different POV's and you really get into the meat of the story behind the Lighters and what may come to help aid Sherry's little family in ending them. I'm not particularly fond of the other two POV's, but I guess it's okay. I really appreciate it cause they add more dimension and perspectives to the story. However I still enjoyed reading it. Sherry,Merrick and co are still hiding and building up their "good people" family. Piper is tilllusting after Merrick which provides a lot of attention as well as stuff to do with Cain... kinda vague but i dont want to spoil it.
Lily is still really sweet and adorable, ditto with Calvin. Still not much on the alien-y side of things which is good i think because the romances,bonds and friendships which accompany it are fabulous.

It pains me that I absolutely hated this book. I FORCED myself to finish this...and many times I was going to just give up on it. The only reason why I did not is that I read not one, but THREE of Alyson Noel's books. And this one was no where near as bad as those.

Alright so I just finished book 2 of this series and I don't really know what to say. On one hand, I really like this story. On the other, similar to book 1, there were details that distracted me from the story. As usual I'll start with the positives. The story itself did get better like I'd hoped. There is more action, we get to see some darker sides of the characters, and there are some pretty unpredictable twists. We get to see the story from some new perspectives and that made Cain my new fa...more Alright so I just finished book 2 of this series and I don't really know what to say. On one hand, I really like this story. On the other, similar to book 1, there were details that distracted me from the story. As usual I'll start with the positives. The story itself did get better like I'd hoped. There is more action, we get to see some darker sides of the characters, and there are some pretty unpredictable twists. We get to see the story from some new perspectives and that made Cain my new favorite character. There were some interesting new developments and some more unanswered questions but I'm hoping book 3 will tie that stuff together and answer those questions.

Now this is the part I dread, having to explain the negatives because they bothered me that much. First of all, whoever edited the first two books (and hopefully not the third) REALLY needs to step it up. I mean, the phrase isn't, "what in the worlds?" Its, "what in the world?" There shouldn't be "his" where you're referring to a female. We should stick to past tense OR present tense, not use both. A sentence shouldn't look like this: "I pulled back and looked up at him to saw his green eyes bright and burning." I don't think it was as bad as it was in the first book; there aren't as many highlighted phrases in my copy. Then again, maybe I got used to reading that way. Another thing that bothered me was the difference in the ages of the kids. It seems to me that only six or so months have gone by and in book one, Lily was 3. Calvin was at first 7 and then suddenly 10. Now in book two, Lily is 4 because they say so and when Calvin's birthday comes around, he's turning 12. Its confusing.

Even more minor things bothered me. There was mention of people looking out for a character "even Keepers and guardians." Um... the Keepers ARE guardians... Also, in an effort to keep this spoiler free, I'll just say this, there are a few situations these characters got themselves into that had me baffled. This happened to me with another book recently. After everything they've been though, after all the things that have happened, how can they STILL be so naive?? How can they still fall into the traps and remain suspicious of people they should know better about? Ok, I'm ranting a bit, but I couldn't help myself. I'll stop now.

Anyway, I just wish some of these things had been looked over. It really is a good story, I'm just hiving to push myself through to see it and I don't want to have to do that. I have to read book 3 now and hope someone else did the editing. Hopefully, I can give book 3 more than 3 stars.(less)

My Thoughts/Review: This book picks up where the last one left off. Sherry and Merrick are now a couple. Danny is safe for now but there is so much that has happened. They have had to move around just to survive and some of the people they are with have been hurt or killed. Sherry is getting weary because the Takers have taken over the world and are looking to kill anyone that turns their back on them. Sherry is hidden in a bunker with Merrick and Danny and they are trying to figure out how to fight the Takers.

While in this bunker Sherry has become the mother hen and everyone looks up to her. She has become the go to person and she also keeps everyone together. She and Merrick are nurturers and try and soothe everyone’s fears. In the second part of this trilogy Sherry is in trouble and Merrick has to find a way to save her and keep everyone else safe.

In this second book you get to meet new characters and you even get to see some arguing and some heart break. This story grips you right from the beginning. I promise you, you will fall in love with Merrick and The Lighters who have come to save the world and destroy the Takers and restore Earth back to its natural beauty before the Takers took over.

Memorable Quotes: Page 38 Merrick is talking to Sherry. “Sherry, please. I’m dying here, baby. Gah, I wish I knew where you were! I assume that Cain is with you. I hope he is... Unless he’s the one who... I’d kill him. I have no idea what happened but don’t be scared, honey. If nothing else just hear my voice and know I’m coming for you. We’re heading out right now to come look for you two. I love you. Stay out of danger. I’ll find you. I promise.”

Advice: This is a must read series! Shelly has the next syfy best seller on her hands. Once you start reading you will not be able to put this series down.

Of course, I’m in the car while I am writing this so I can’t. The introduction and reappearance of new characters adds to the growth and excitement of the Collide series. Shelly Crane gets you emotionally invested the characters, making Uprising another great addition to the series.

I have always admired Sherry for her inner strength in the books, and this is no exception. She and Merrick go through a heck of a lot more in this book with the reappearance of some other characters. They are constantly ripped from each other when they think it's the safest, and they only get a little while tho enjoy the married life. I really loved the addition of Lily. She was very sweet, and she was like the glue that held everyone together.

Cain and Lillian were very exciting to read because they had a lot of baggage and it was nice to see them as friends before any romantic relationship went on. Lillian is really sweet and sometimes comes off as weak, but like Sherry she has a loyal and brave heart. Cain being in love with Sherry wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He really wanted to try and stay away from her for Lillian's sake, but I'm worried that it won't last. I would have liked to see more of Jeff and Marissa, but I guess Shelly Crane has to prioritize.

What I liked about the Lighters/Keepers plot is that it appears very complicated, but it is easy to follow. You know what's going on the whole time, and it doesn't drag like some other books I've read (*cough* The Host *cough*). Crane was able to incorporate a lot more action with the additional POVs, which was really enjoyable to the reader. There were some interesting developments in the story, and some mysteries that have yet to be resolved. There WAS a cliffhanger at the end, but it was a good one.

One of the problems with having a lot of characters is giving each one a fair amount of personality and background. I think Shelly Crane did an okay job with this, but I wanted a bit more depth to the characters of Jeff, Marissa, Piper, maybe Ryan, and possibly Lana. Another thing that was hard was the fact that the switching POVs made me miss the other characters. I particularly like Lillian and Merrick's POVs, and I found myself missing the other for half the chapter. I know it's a balancing game, though, and I'm happy any way she writes it.

Overall, great book and I CAN'T WAIT to read the next one. I like how Shelly Crane writes about lots of characters as a family, and the action doesn't overpower or is shadowed by the characters and relationships.

I really enjoyed the introduction of new perspectives in this book, but at the same time I was upset to see Sherry’s perspective cut back. I would be perfectly content to read about Sherry and Merrick and how much they love each other all day long. I will never get enough of the love scenes between the two of them. Sometimes I wish authors would just write a book that is all fluff and no real plot lines what-so-ever. One perspective I found really interesting but frightening at the same time, was the Taker’s perspective. It was intriguing to get inside his head, but also a bit scary.

In my opinion, Sherry is still too nice. However, she does begin to stand up for herself in this book and I was glad to see it. While it is good to be nice and liked, you should make yourself happy first, and then others. Merrick once again is a sweetie and I could read about him for days on end. It was interesting to get a glimpse at a very different Merrick in this book, one that I am sure will shock readers.

I was glad to see Lillian return and to see her character grow. When we met her in Collide, I thought her character had a lot of potential, only to see her leave very soon. Cain is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I truly appreciate his humor, sarcasm, and of course his lip ring. Its hard to resist a bad boy, even if this bad boy is really a nice guy. Lily, one of our new characters, may just be my absolute favorite. She is three years old and adorable. I can picture her in my head perfectly and I think she is an absolute sweetie and I just want to make her come outside of the book, pick her up, and hug her. Another character we see return is Piper, and I hate her. She is the most annoying and spiteful character I have ever encountered. I really truly hate her, even more-so than I do the Lighters. The Lighters have always been evil, and in a way it is all they really know, but Piper is supposed to be the good guy. She is acting like a spoiled child and she is simply vindictive. I feel like the Lighters just are evil, while Piper is choosing to be evil. This to me is a very big difference.

Overall, a very good second book for this series. The ending is of course a cliffhanger that will have you sprinting to the store as soon as you finish in order to buy Catalyst. I personally downloaded it to my nook immediately and started reading like it was one giant book. Pararomance fans will adore this book.(less)

This book picks up right were we left off in "Collide". I found that the main point of this book for me was getting to know the characters more personally as each chapter has a different person's point of view. I truly do not know where I stand with this book and series. On one hand the concept and character development is great but on the other hand the plot falls flat and everything is a bit too "lovey-dovey". I kept hoping for more while at the same time hoping nothing would change. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the character of Cain. I also loved getting more character development with all the supporting characters(Jeff,Ryan,Lillian,etc...). The character of Lily was a welcome addition. The love story was great and even better than the first book in this series. Merrick in this book was in even more protective mode then in Collide! He was so protective of Sherry and sometimes I think that he took it a bit far but I could totally see why he was like that! It was amazing to see Sherry and Merrick be able to be parents even though it wasn't quite the way they wanted! It was also amazing to see some old characters from Collide come back into this book as well as new characters being introduced! When I found out that there were four different points of views in this book I really hoped that Shelly put at the top who's point of view it was or else I would have been so confused but Shelly did just that which made me love being able to go into other characters heads as I could understand who's head I was in! The ending has me so excited to read the next book and I am so happy that I don't have to wait for the next book as it is already out! I am definitely going to continue reading this series as it is unique and definitely my kind of thing! The cover definitely makes more sense to you after you have read the book and I freaking love it! I love all the new covers for this series! I enjoyed this sequel to Collide. There was drama, loss, new friends, and old ones brought in. Some of the questions you may have had in Collide are answered in Uprising.
