Death Head Crossing is just the name of a little town in Texas - until the population starts shrinking one body at a time. But the deaths are as mysterious as the face of the murderer, and only gunslinger Hell Jackson has what it takes to ride through the reign of terror and put an end to the killings.

Shelves: western
Oh, it's a western. Not a L'Amouur western, where everything happens "swiftly" and everyone drinks gallons of coffee, but it's formulaic. Five women: one owns the boardinghouse and is dumpy and crabby and racist. The other four are beautiful. One is a fiery Mexicana beauty. No one has sex, but they think about it, often. Nifty Western teams New York City reporter Everett Sidney Howard with gunslinger Hell Jackson to solve a murder mystery. The twisty plot involves religious fanatics, beautiful ladies, and floating lights. Hardboiled with humorous asides add to its considerable appeal. I look for other Western titles by the author. James Reasoner one of my favorites.

Wonderful set of characters in a great western/mystery. Would like to see more, but probably not. Westerns aren't as popular as once.

My first Western book. Pretty good introduction into the genre. Fantastic mix of action, suspense & a classic western style!
