I've just started reading this book, and right off the bat, 1000 Masterpieces should be used more for a quick reference guide than anything else.

As the title denotes, the book has a 1000 paintings from a plethora of artists, which begins at the 16th century. The descriptions of each paintings are no more than a few sentences and if you are not familiar with art history vocabulary, the book makes no effort to define them.

Auf der Suche nach einem Buch, das meine Bildungslücken im Bereich der darstellenden Kunst zu schließen in der Lage wäre, stieß ich auf dieses Werk hier. '1000 Meisterwerke der Malerei' ist ein netter Einstieg in die Welt dieser Künste - nicht mehr, und nicht weniger.

Die alphabetische Einteilung der Künstler hat mich ein wenig davon abgehalten die Entwicklung in der Malerei betrachten zu können. Für mich wäre es interessanter gewesen zu verfolgen, wie sich das Handwerk der Kunst im Laufe der Jah
