Read while taking Kawachi's course. Very dense, but great reference and review of social determinants of health, and to some extent, what we can do about them. Definitely shifts paradigms, provides the backbone and justification for public health interventions on social issues. Highly recommend if you have interest in the topic, personally or professionally.

SO INTERESTING. I loved the review of the research within each category grouped by chapter. I hope in the intervening years since the book was written-edited-published that more research has been added on topics that are relavent to today's global world and differing environments and social networks. Oh to be in school again!

So dense that at times it was tortuous to get through. Public health is interesting but the way it was written became a burden to read. Thorough but dense.

A very well-structured and clear intro-level text book for social epidemiology. After all, Berkman and Kawachi are splendid scholars in this field.
