I have just had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of “Resuscitation” by Mr. D.M. Annechino. Mr. Annechino has written a previous thriller titled “They Never Die Quietly” which carries on with the same central character Detective Sami Rizzo. This is a novel about a vicious serial killer, a crime which Ms. Rizzo has demonstrated considerable expertise and brilliance in bringing killer/s to justice

It has been two years since Sami Rizzo hung up her badge after the events outlined in “They Never Die Quietly.” However, a new killer is in town, and doing hideous things to his victims – performing medical experiments, mainly on their hearts, and the dressing them in designer clothes and leaving their bodies in public places. Al is originally lead on the investigation, but when a family emergency takes him out of town, Sami finds herself wanting to get back on the force. With the help of the ma...more
The novel follows a cardiologist, whose research hinges on his ability to get another grant. He needs to provide more data to receive a grant and decides to take matters into his own hands by kidnapping people on whom to perform tests. On the chase is former Detective Sami Rizzo, who quit the force after nearly being murdered by a serial killer. Sami decides to step back in when her boyfriend, also a detective, has to leave town in order to attend to his ill sister.

Oh dear. I was given this and am very glad I didn't pay good money for it. The writing is poor and the characters are weak, inconsistent and cliched. The plot is painfully thin and totally unbelievable. Another writer who thinks he can produce a credible novel without bothering with any serious research. The story is about a woman detective's attempts to catch a serial killer. In fact she does little detective work, or any of the routine work needed to solve crimes. The way she eventually identi...more
Better than the first Sami Rizzo book. Overall the writing is average and the plot line is above average. It was fun as a doctor to read this book about the evil surgeon despite there being multiple inaccuracies about medical techniques and technology. This would be a great book for a long flight. One thing that did drive me a little crazy was the multiple repeats of lines from the "never die quietly" book. Sami is reported to be an amazing detective but I still felt like she was just in the rig...more

I got about one-third of the way through before giving up. Accidentally borrowed it when I was testing out the Kindle's new lending library and decided to go ahead and read it.
This book in a word: embarrassing. Chock full of cliches. Silly, forced dialogue. Amateurish plot development (show, don't tell). Annechino apparently spent more time researching the technical details of cardiology than she spent on formulating an original or interesting thought.

Sami Rizzo used to be a really good detective until she went chasing after a serial killer and almost became his next victim. Now, Sami has nightmares about him and sees a shrink.
When a new serial killer appears and Sami's boyfriend and lead detective, Al, has to leave for a family emergency, it is up to Sami to become the hunter instead of the hunted.
This book had my attention the whole time. Of course, my down fall was that I took it to work with me. I would read it on breaks and lunches and...more

While this wasn’t the worse book I’ve ever read, I am questioning my judgment in the decision to complete it. The writing is bad! Sometimes it was good and other times it felt like a 4th grader was writing it. And the conversations between the characters was very forced; you would never formally talk to a close friend or relative in that way – as if addressing the queen.
Aside from the writing, the book is one enormous cliché for what mystery novels should contain. But it shouldn’t contain all th...more

Review from Ruth:
Ok, bad idea to get “Resuscitation”, it sounded a little creepy and it is yuck I have read only three chapters and the “F” word is used a lot and some other crude language and it is regarding the making of a serial killer which to me is such a great book to give ideas to people that are leaning that direction anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we might want to remove it completely from the list of books we have in our shelf. I will delete it from my Kindle.

I couldn't put this book down. I'm not typically a fan of murder mysteries, but this was fabulous. It kept me reading to just find out what happens next. If you're a fan of Dexter I think you'll enjoy this. It had a similar plot-where a professional doctor was killing for his scientific research -and the police were trying to hunt down this vicious murder. It had lots more twists -but that's my short version.

Pretty bad. I feel sorry for the author -- I could tell they were trying to build the characters and make it interesting. But it was such bad dialogue and trite phrases that I kept groaning at all the character building. It was a cheapy for my Kindle -- maybe its time I quit downloading these cheap Kindle books because most of them have been a waste of reading time.
San Diego detective, Sami Rizzo, is back, but her partner, on and off the force, Al Diaz who runs the a case while Sami takes a 2 year period to go back to school. A personal tragedy takes Al away from the country and Sami gets reinstated to find and capture a killer who cuts the chest open of his victims and tries to then resuscitate them.
This medical thriller was $5 as an Amazon Kindle version. It was seriously bad, so bad I had to get to the end to be sure there wasn't a plot twist that would redeem it. Nope, not redeemable. Really poor writing. I'll know to avoid Amazon's deal of the day in the future--you get what you pay for I guess. Aargh.
I had high expectations for this one, as I had read and thoroughly enjoyed it's predecessor, "They Never Die Quietly". I lauded Annechino's first book as non-clichéd, original, and as having wonderful character development unseen in other genre books. That was all true - and it just didn't hold up for the sequel. The ending seem rushed and anti-climactic, and loose ends were tied up a little too hastily and without the proper treatment. I'll still read his next book in the series, because someti...more
