"So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night..." Remember the Von Trapps yodeling their goodbyes to the guests? I know they weren't yodeling... they were showing their prodigious singing talents. This song's lyrics kept settling in my ears because this story reads like the author is saying, "Goodbye" to all her characters. Many will like it or they might be like me who has read the series over 8 years and struggled at times to recall who the heck was whom. Here's a tip to you kindred spirit speed-demon-readers: the characters are listed in the back of the book. Yep! That's right. You might want to use your big brain and flip back and forth. My brain is not that big. What can I say? I like to do things fast. And when I don't particularly like a book, I read in warp-speed. I have enjoyed many of the Septimus Heap books, but not this one; I thought Angie Sage spread herself too thin with an abundance of characters that took the spotlight off the star: Septimus.

Students are always looking for stories in the same vein as Harry Potter and this series satisfies that need for escapism. The world building is well-done, the characters "okeydoky" (I did get tired of that anachronistic word), and the plot messy. Readers are left with an entertaining book, but a convoluted message because Septimus's internal struggle with figuring out his career path gets chucked on the wayside of the road's plot too many times.

Septimus is helping Marcellus and Marcia dispose of the evil two-faced ring. They must rebuild the fyre the Alchemist's used in the old days before the great Alchemie disaster to destroy it. Sounds a bit like Lord of the Rings, eh? Marcellus and Marcia distrust each other because they represent two opposing political parties of alchemists and wizards. The two bicker an awful lot throughout this story and I didn't like how they would fight over Septimus. For instance, they are in a room with Septimus and Simon looking for ancient gold. Septimus suggests using the Transubstantiate Triple bowls and Marcellus says, "He's good isn't he?" and Marcia agrees saying that is why she chose him as his apprentice. It is supposed to be funny but it puts down Simon who is standing right there suggesting he is inferior. Marcia and Marcellus are supposed to be leaders, but their paranoia toward each other, dingy actions, and prickly attitude toward others left me disliking them. Normally Marcia's prickliness shows she care for Septimus but she was catty about Jillie Djinn putting down her "fat legs" and disrespectful to Milo who is the king's daughter, to name a few.

Many obstacles happen along the way and many don't advance the plot but are instead used to say, "goodbye," to the characters. Nursie and Merrin are presented as bait but aren't used as such. Jillie Djinn doesn't add anything to the plot except making Marcia look like an impatient jerk. Syrah wakes up but says hardly a thing, and on it goes. Remember when I told you to use your big brain and flip between the back and front? Well, you might not want to because they contain one paragraph wrap-ups of what happened to whom. Like I said, Sage has too many characters and loose threads she's trying to resolve.

The characters don't change much. Simon finds redemption and I liked the part where his knowledge of dark magic assists in the battle with the evil wizards. Marcia learns to accept Marcellus and vice versa except they are quite stupid and juvenile. Pike faces his prejudices but even that lacks depth and Jenna doesn't change much. Beetle gets little page time and Septimus gets lost in the shuffle.

This was a perfectly enjoyable end to the Septimus Heap series. However, I can't help feeling it lacked a bit of... pazzaz? I have grown up with the characters in these books; Septimus Heap is like my Harry Potter. And I can't help feeling that all the tyings off and endings have been tainted slightly by the fact she has decided to write another series in the same world. (which, by the way, I probably will read, but they won't be as good as the originals, I'm sure)

A very Magykal series indeed!

Fyre is a great series-ender for the Septimus Heap series. The events are unpredictable (for me, unpredictability is one of the characteristics of a good story ). You will surely laugh at every humor of EVERY character. You will have this feeling of suspense, seriousness, and laughter when reading this book. First, let me just say that this book was amazing. No matter what, it was still better than most of the books I usually read. But from the great finale of one of my favorite series ever I expected much more.

There were many things that disturbed me and many, many things I liked. For example, I like Angie's special way of humor and how she manages to write about tons of awesome characters and doesn't let any of them out of the story. And they never become boring. But from the great finale of one of my favorite series ever I expected much more.

There were many things that disturbed me and many, many things I liked. For example, I like Angie's special way of humor and how she manages to write about tons of awesome characters and doesn't let any of them out of the story. And they never become boring. I like how despite all the action, magyk and darke stuff, her books stay light and funny.
If I said that there's no romance, I'd be lying. It is present, but hidden between the lines. The way Angie describes romantic stuff is kind of childish and silly but very refreshing. I absolutely love it.
I was pleasantly surprised by the main evil. I admit that I wondered a lot about who would have been the "bad guy" now that DomDaniel, Simon, Tertius Fume and Merrin are all kind of defeated or turned into the "good guys". The wizards from the two-faced ring were a good choice. They were there all along and I never thought that the ring was the problem, not the ones who wore it.

The book was a constant reminder that this is the end of Semptimus Heap. It visited almost every place important for previous books and gave almost every character an opportunity to shine. But I was disappointed. Who needs other characters when there's no Nicko?
He has got even smaller role than in Darke. Through the first half of Fyre, his name is said twice. Twice! In the middle Angie remembered about the best Heap so she put him along for a journey to the House of Foryx. And also into the port palace with Jenna, Sep, Simon and Jim Knee. However, she seemed to forget about him and after that there was no Nicko at all. At least he became his old self again. It's a shame he didn't get another typical Nik moment like at the end of Darke when he was imitating a seagull at the royal party. I don't know why was he almost removed from the plot but I clearly missed him. I missed him so much that I didn't really care that Syrah was boring and stupid when she woke up, or that Sep ended up with Rose (who exactly? Was she ever mentioned before?), or that Jenna is still annoying, or that Spit Fyre was left out, or that the twist with fyre was pretty lame and nothing special... I'm out. I can't remember anything else to write. I'm still sulking because of Nicko.

Oh, I forgot something! I have a new hero! Quoting directly from acknowledgements: "To Dave Johnson, without whom Nicko would not have had an attack of the giggles at the Wendron Witch Summer Circle."(less)

I am a big fan of this droll children's series, and Fyre (#7) did not disappoint!
The setting oozes magical fun, the characters are so recognizably human and likeable and funny (and they continue to grow!) and the plot and situations are delightfully orchestrated.

This is the final installment to the Septimus Heap series and I absolutely hate to see this series come to an end. We have watched Septimus and Jenna and all the other characters grow and change over the course of this series and this book does a wonderful job of tying things up.

I LOVE this series! I’m SO sorry to see it end :( This was a fantastic installment!! I loved the tying up of loose ends and all the people and history that came into play in the story. I think it’s interesting that, though this series is entitled “SEPTIMUS HEAP,” Septimus is usually not the big, sole hero of these books. Usually it’s a group effort of many characters to resolve the conflict(s). I love that there are so many characters I enjoy, love, and truly like in these books--and I’m always rooting for them to have future happiness. Some who are very dear to my heart: Septimus, Beetle, Marcia, Spit Fyre, Wolf Boy, Marcellus, and Nicko. I like Jenna, too, though I do find her “queenly” attitude and bossiness to be kind of irritating at times. I have also come to really like Simon, too!!

I enjoyed the story and action in FYRE. It has some very intense moments and the plot is VERY unpredictable, which is nice. (I have generally found all of these books to be very surprising and hard to predict!!) I liked the addition of a little romance in this book, too :) (view spoiler). And, as always, I LOVE the humor--I laughed out loud a number of times. I highly enjoyed the entire book!!

I can’t rave about this series enough! I loved this conclusion, but I’m sad to see it end--I’d have been perfectly happy if it had gone on for another 7 books :)

Whenever I am awaiting a new book, I seem perfectly calm. Until a stray thought, a picture, or a random comment from someone around me suddenly reminds me what is coming, and I suddenly can't stop grinning and I find myself squealing and jumping up and down, to the knowing smiles and eye-rolls of those who know and love me.

Where to start!!!.....
Fyre was an epic installment to the Septimus Heap series.
The plot was interesting and engaging with Angie's unique sense of humor.
I'm not going to list the things i like about this book... there are way to many :)
...but some things i didn't like were:
-Lack of Romance between characters (especially between sep and rose)
- Angie Didnt really explain or give any personality's to the "bad guys"
they did'nt even talk very much
-Aunt Zelda becoming forgetful and then dying :(

This final book in the Septimus Heap series draws on all of the previous volumes to tell one last story that ties up all the loose ends and manages to leave Septimus' story with very few stones unturned.

All of your favourite characters return, and many of the locations from previous books play a part in this final story which sees Septimus trying to denature the Two Faced Ring and finally close the book on DomDaniel's evil forever.

When you have been with these characters for as long as I have you feel extremely sad to say goodbye after all this time. I started reading this series in 2008 and back then I don't think I fully appreciated the series. I'm not quite sure what I think about this book. It is suppose to be the last in the series but it is obvious that there can be much more story to tell as there are many story lines that could be follwed up in future books.

This has been a series of books that while meant promarily for children is satisfying for adults as well. A nice escape from anything harsh where good always triumphs and very rarely is anyone seriously hurt- at least on the good side.

Endlich ist das Final um die Septimus Heap Reihe hier. Ich hab so lang darauf gewartet und dann hat irgendwie etwas gefehlt. Die 702 Seiten waren teilweise sehr zäh und das Ende wurde mir dann zu schnell und nicht befriedigend genug abgehandelt. Ich hatte so gehofft das wir bei Sep seiner Ernennung zum "ExtraOrdinaryWizard" dabei sind, natürlich wissen wir alle das er der nächste wird, aber die Autorin hätte das auch einbauen können, so wie wir bei Jennas Krönung dabei waren.

I love this series all the way from The Castle to The House of Foryx and beyond. The characters are so easy to fall in love with and so much fun to read. The tone is so lighthearted, even when there is a huge disappointment, it is always dampered by humor. The plotline really just seems to fit with the rest of the book in a way that is endearing and fierce.
The characters in this book are so darn awesome, which is one of the many reasons I love it so much. Sage does a wonderful job portraying traits like Marcia's stern and haughty but loving nature, and Milo's mysterious but proud one. (view spoiler) I love Nicko's vulnerability, and how he was able to put his fear aside for the ones he loved. Marcellus was kind and understanding, (view spoiler) Jenna was lovely and queenly, as always. (view spoiler) Beetle was so...Beetle. It was perfect (view spoiler) And then there was Septimus. Oh my, Septimus, you are one of my favorite characters EVER. Maybe it is because he seems so human. He had to make a major choice, and though it clearly pained him, I think he chose the right one. The conclusion to the septimus heap series was AMAZING! Several of things I wanted to happen did and sage went into some of the other characters more. The one thing I was disappointed with was at the end where it goes over what happened to the characters later on, the main characters like Jenna and Marcia and beetle and septimus only had about half a page, it felt to short while other less significant characters had much longer ones which didn't make much sense to me

I loved this series from start to finished. Now it's finished. Septimus has grown pretty close to being ready to be the next extra-ordinary wizard. Jenna is acting like the queen she was born to be. The large cast of characters were all great to know. Well, the villains maybe weren't so good to know but they made things interesting. The sense of "magyck" permeates all seven books in ways I can hardly express. I can only strongly recommend reading the whole lot.

It was a great closure for the series, really!

It was still quite slow-paced though, typical Septimus Heaps series. But in this installment, the pace let the plot thicken itself, gave twists here and there, and built up the reader's anticipation. The series is over! I savoured this book for as long as I could.. Taking very near a month long to read it!

I think the end was rather.. Uhh... Mild. I was expecting a lot out of this book since it was the last in the series, and it did disappoint me as far as thrill, action, and suspense goes.. It was sort of like a goodbye hug to all the characters.

I was disappointed with the final chapter of Septimus Heap's story. Stanley the message rat got only a cameo appearance (barely a page) and Spit Fyre got only a little more of a mention. The humor seemed to be missing as well and there was too much of Marcellus Pye and his Alchemie. I'm not inspired to write more about it.

5 stars for being great at what it is - a really fun children's series. Not that it's one of my all time faves. Gotta make that distinction sometimes, right? This is a wonderful series that I highly, highly recommend to young readers and to adults who are looking for a quick, engaging light fantasy. So. Much. Love. I literally spent the entire day reading this book. It was a bit...odd, because I actually listened to the first 6, but I fell into the reading groove easily. The story is beautifully written and flows quickly --the book looks HUGE, but it really only took me less than 12 hours (taking into account distractions and regular life).

I thought this was a great book I was happy with most of the book I did not like the way Queen Cerys story went. but for the most part was pleased. I look forward to reading the new series TodHunter Moon that she is putting out and to see how it ties in with septimus and jenna and the castle.

I waited so long for this book. I loved the last book but not how it ended. This one started out slow which was a good thing since I needed to remember all the characters and their role. At that point the story picked up speed and took me on a wonderful journey! Great Job Angie Sage.

As someone who as grown up with this series, it was an amazing and bittersweet finale. It wonderfully managed to explain most of the mysteries that had been presented in the earlier books. I started these books as a nine year old and now 8 years later I am truly sad they ended.
