I usually like Patterson's books, and I hoped this would be a series I'd like. I'll probably read more about Private and Jack Morgan (or listen to it on audiobooks while driving). But...

(1) I hated the whiny sounding narrator of the audiobook. His voices of the characters were really bad, especially the women who were important to the hero.

(2) I wished there were heroes in Patterson's books that could handle commitment better or at least have a better moral code. I'm tired of hearing about/readi...more

This is the fourth book in the successful Private series by James Patterson and in my opinion is the best one yet!

It starts off at a very fast pace with the murder of a woman and the hi-jacking of a van and the cold blooded execution of its occupants.

Jack Morgan, ex US marine and former CIA agent, is the owner of Private, a family private investigations business. He has built up the business into an International investigation firm with world-class investigators with state of the art technology...more

As a reader, I have alot of authors that I love to bits , one of these authors is James Patterson. I can't actually recall when I started reading all his books but I can say that the first one of his I ever read was 3rd Degree , I had picked it up at a secondhand bookshop I think. It was amazing and soon I was reading every single one of his books that I could get my hands on whether it was an awesome novel or a really weird book like his "Youv'e Been Warned". His latest series is the Private se...more

James Patterson, to me, is the McDonald's of the mystery market; every six months at most, he (in most cases helped by co-authors) churns out another book. And although I'm a fan who's read a huge number of them, I'd be the first to say that quality has suffered; there are at least three fairly recent numbers I haven't even bothered to start because the few I'd read before that were borderline trite and the newer ones weren't faring all that well in the review department.

The "Private" series, ho...more

Jack Morgan, former marine, is owner of 'Private', an elite investigation firm. The keys of the firm were handed over to Jack by his father who started 'Private' as was serving time in prison for murder. Unfortunately his time was cut short when he was killed there. Jack has an identical twin brother, Tommy jr. who works for a firm in private security. Jack's father constantly pitted the brothers against one another since childhood and when their father died, Jack felt no remorse since all he re...more

Private No.1 Suspect is the second book in the Jack Morgan series by James Patterson. At first sight I thought that, wonder of wonders, Patterson had done this one all by himself. But then I noticed in very faint print at the bottom of the front cover, Maxine Paetro’s name. So, co-written, once again. Private Investigations, Jack Morgan’s very exclusive investigation firm, is handling several cases: a Mafia boss wants Private to find his hijacked shipment of prescription drugs; a hotel owner wan...more

Jack Morgan is not a good man. At least, he's not a very likeable character. And calling his car 'Lambo' doesn't do anything to endear me to him either.

What I do like about the Private books so far is the sheer number of crap that's going on. Sometimes that can get confusing, but I like that Private is a successful investigation agency and they've got more than one ball up in the air. Each case is unique and intriguing and some could even merit their own book, but it keeps things from getting st...more

Did I mention that I liked James Patterson? LOL Love this collab with Maxine Paetro. Jack Morgan is an excellent character. Bless his little heart, he just cannot seem to realize which out of the three woman he is involved with, that he loves the most. Now he is not involved with them all at the same time...really. Don't want to give to much away here. But, let's just say he figures it out at the end.

This is the second in this particular series. The first book is good too. Jack Morgan is an ex-...more

This week's read was Private: #1 Suspect by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. This was a spur-of-the-moment purchase at Boston Logan last Monday. My flight had been delayed for over two hours, and I was worried about the battery on my Nook, so I caved in and bought a book at the airport, where the prices are definitely not discounted. Anyway. It was well worth it, because this book was very good. I hadn't read a James Patterson novel in a while, because I felt like they'd all become a bit redun...more

I didn't think this was one of James Patterson's best books, but it was still a good one. The familiar characters of Private detective agency were back with a few new characters added in as others started to move on.

The short chapters of the book (2-3 pages long each) made it for an easy read, but it seemed to drain it of the depth of story that the Richard Castle mystery I recently read had. You don't get as close or as emotionally involved with the characters so I felt more like I was being t...more

PRIVATE #1 SUSPECT (Pub. 2012) was an entertaining read. I buzzed through it in 24-hrs. Co-authored by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro, the book moves at a quick pace, with a solid dose of tension and thrills, and kept me wondering how the three separate story lines were going to turn out.

The main story line is focused on Jack Morgan, owner of Private, an investigation firm based in L.A. Jack is set up for the murder of his former girlfriend and pulls in his team to help solve the case again...more

Jack Morgan is the son of a dad who was a creep and died in prison but who left him and his evil twin brother Tommy (a sociopath with no morals) millions each which the brothers used to start rival private investigation firms.

In this book, Jack returns to his high tech, well secured home after a business trip to find his ex-lover Colleen murdered in his bed with his gun and the hard drive from the security camera missing. Colleen was an Irish woman who worked for Jack for a year and who had bee...more

This latest by the Patterson/Paetro combo is an satisfying read, another based on Jack Morgan and his team of investigators with Private, a multi-million dollar security agency.
Three separate story lines run within the book, all interesting and well told.
For me the weakness in the story is in the protagonist himself, Jack Morgan who is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in the beginning of the book. I don't like Jack Morgan. In one scene he is missing his dead girlfriend who he had goodbye...more

Let me start off with, I really, really wanted to like this book. I wanted to like Patterson because he's famous and I know a lot of people like him very much and if I liked him too, it'll be like I stumbled upon a goldmine because Patterson has written a lot. However, as much as I wanted to, I didn't really.

Jack Morgan is an ex-marine who had used his fortune to start up his own private investigations company called 'Private'. Private has become renowned for being the smartest, the fastest and...more

Jack Morgan returns home after a long flight to discover a dead body in his bed. The victim is a former lover, of course, leaving Jack Morgan looking guilty as sin. Good thing he runs one of the most sophisticated private investigation firms in the universe! He pulls all his resources to prove his innocence while dodging the police as they try to hang him. At the same time, he and his firm juggle three other cases. One involves a serial killer who targets men in hotels. Another involves a mob bo...more

By the standards of the previous 3 books in the Private series this one wasn't actually that bad. I disliked Private, Private: London was alright, and Private: Games was just plain stupid. So perhaps it's every other book in this series that turns out as reasonable so maybe I should just give the next book a miss.

That said though this book wasn't without it's flaws. One of James Patterson's recent traits is to tell 2 or 3 stories within in a book, and considering he churns out an average of 10 b...more

Another good book from James Patterson. This is the second book in the Private series I have read and I look forward to the rest of the books.

As usual, there are a few jobs going on at Private. Jack is investigating a crime where men are being killed in a hotel owned by a woman named Jinx. Jack, of course, is always ready to help a female and he does his best to help her.

Del Rio and Cruz are on a job that involves Mob Boss Noccia. Justine is doing a job for a Movie Actor involved in a murder of...more

I'll start off by saying that I hated the first book in this new series, Private. The plots were all over the place and had no real point to them. The characters were so one dimensional and irritating. And worst of all it felt like it was written for people who have never read a book before. I was then highly recommended it's follow-up Private London, which had a new set of characters, was set in England and had a decent plot and I actually really enjoyed it. Because I liked the sequel I thought...more

James Patterson falls a long way short of John Grisham or Stephen King as a writer and story teller. However, he is easy to read and if you're looking for escapism without any real depth he's an entertaining writer.

Jack Morgan heads up Private and the main plot of the book centres around him being framed for his ex-girlfriend's murder. Many other sub-plots are introduced and in my view are all inevitably solved far too easily. The serial killer of hotel guests being a case in point...too simplis...more

I really enjoyed this book by James Patterson. Its the second installment in the PRIVATE series, and I hadn't read the first one, so I went in blind. Now having read it, however, I will definitely be getting the first one. I have already bought PRIVATE: Sydney, and I will probably download the others too. Private is a state of the art detective agency, run by former CIA agent, Jack Morgan. He's gritty, he's real, he's a guy's guy - and likes women, even though he's trying to commit to one. A nor...more

Private #1 Suspect started out with a bang... literally. I was caught up in the action from page one. Having read Private, the first book of the series, awhile ago, it took me a few minutes to remember the characters. Luckily Patterson provided a brief description of the key players.

Unfortunately about the middle of the book, the storyline started to drag for me. Jack and his employees are frantically trying to prove his innocence while the police detective assigned to his case thinks Jack commi...more

I was a bit hesitant about reading this as James Patterson has not been on my favorite author list recently. I'm glad I did, however, as it was an enjoyable listen. Kudos to Scott Shepherd on the excellent reading - he really brought Jack Morgan to life on the CDs.

Jack is a confident, powerful, wealthy, fit, successful, smart guy. He's too much of each of those things to appear even remotely real but he makes for fum reading. While the story isn't plausible, I liked that there were snags and su...more

There was quite a few threads in this novel but it kept it interesting.
I was a little apphrensive taking this book after reading the last 'Private - Games' as that novel wasn't very good. This was written by Maxine Paetro who seems to be a better author and has written a lot more using Patterson's name as a vessel.

The plotlines weren't difficult to figure out but the stories were basically entertaining. The choppy chapters and lots of paper space inbetween make it for a quick read. The book act...more

This is the second book in the Private series by James Patterson. As with the first, Private #1 Suspect is the story of Jack Morgan and his company, Private Investigations. In this story, Jack returns from a trip overseas to find his former employee and ex-girlfriend, Colleen, dead of a gunshot wound in his bed. He quickly becomes the number one suspect (hence the title) in her murder. All the evidence points to him, including matching DNA, an eye witness who places him at the scene at the time...more

Light and frothy, but the author deftly juggles a number of different cases with aplomb. My only issue with this novel is how quickly each one of the cases is resolved and neatly wrapped up, without much effort (all of the breaks in each of the cases seems to rely a little too much on coincidence and not good detective work)... had the author concentrated on one case, and fleshed out the case a little more deeply, this might have been a much better novel. Still, the novel was a quick read and su...more

I had recently read Pattersons book 11th Hour and as I said in my review I was somewhat disappointed with it. However, in this book Patterson has returned to top form. This book is a return to the fast paced thrillers we have come to expect. There re three story lines, one of which Jack Morgan is trying to clear his name of a murder charge. Another is a chain of hotels where the guests are being murdered in their rooms. These are both strong storylines and are written well. The third story wher...more

I admit it: I'm a huge James Patterson fan. I don't even care that he "writes" 10 books a year, or that most of the books are written by co-authors. I love his stories and I will continue to read them for as long as he continues to publish them. This book was the second book in the Jack Morgan series (which I didn't know when I checked out, but turns out to not have mattered very much), so it looks like I've gotten myself roped into yet another James Patterson series (I'm slowly working my way t...more

Another adventurous crime book from duo James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. Four cases to solve in this installment for this high power investigation firm. One of which involved Jack Morgan, head honcho of said firm. Accused of murder of his ex-girlfriend no doubt. But, no fear! He does head the world's top detective agency so he's putting his men to work. Will they be able to pull it off?

With the multiple cases to follow, this was an eventful book. There was enough twists here and there to...more

Jack Morgan's ex-assistant and ex-girlfriend is dead, shot in his bedroom and he is the #1 suspect. Some of the police for are happy to take Morgan and Private down a notch or two. Jack is on the case of his life, for his life, and he has little to go on.

As if that wasn't enough, Jack's mob "friend" has a job for Jack that he shouldn't refuse. A truck load of drugs was carjacked from Noccia's men and stored somewhere in L.A. Noccia wants Private to get it back for him.

Finally, there have been a...more

The subject of a Time magazine feature called, "The Man Who Can't Miss," James Patterson is the bestselling author of the past year, bar none, with more than 16 million books sold in North America alone. In 2007, one of every fifteen hardcover fiction books sold was a Patterson title. In the past three years, James has sold more books than any other author (according...more
