This is the book that put Jenna Ryan into a very, very special and select category of authors for me personally. It takes the right combination of circumstances on my part and (usually) a brilliant ear for dialog on the part of the writer, but every so often the stars align and I get to slap another title at the end of this very short list: "Books that made me shoot Mountain Dew out of my nose."

I'll confess to being vaguely biased towards this sort of thing since there were some heavy life issue

Cop turned U.S. Marshal Gabriel McBride was shot and bleeding, and had nowhere to go except the very woman who wanted nothing to do with him ever again. He'd been ambushed while tracking a fugitive, a hit man he'd unwittingly brought straight to Alessandra Norris' very door.

It was this lifestyle that had driven a wedge between them: the risk taking, the secrets, and the danger that went with the badge. And now Alessandra was right in the thick of things, fleeing into the Black Hills with a rifle
A fun, non-stop but slightly confusing ride. MacBride and Alessandra are a funny couple who complement each other beautifully and I loved both characters. As they hurtle from danger to another, neither loses their sense of humor and I really enjoyed that as much as all the action. I got a little confused by who all was after them, but all was explained at the end.

I do want to mention that the cover and title are horrible! There's no way I would have picked this up unless I'd read a couple of goo
Enh. I should probably stop reading books set in South Dakota that aren't by South Dakotans. She deliberately didn't name anything but Rapid City by its real name, but I don't even recognize the geography of the Hills as what I grew up with. And there was a Chicago mention that worked for me!
