Dirk Danger Loves Life, the début novel by Chris Rothe, is a comedic tale of a sad little man who cannot function in any self-sufficient capacity. As his life swirls down the drain, serendipity provides a phone number that launches him into the world of Dirk Danger.

What follows is a not‑so-typical coming of age story involving scuba gear, terrible poetry, a fish eulogy, a

When I finished this book I realized how little optimistic material I've read lately. You could summarize the plot as "pay stuff forward" but that would oversimplify it. First of all, it's a first person narrative but Dirk Danger is the subject not the narrator. In fact, it's easier to remember the narrator's nickname (Cheesebomb)than his real name which we don't even learn until well into the book. Poor Cheesebomb has absolutely no confidence in himself or his abilities and "sucks at life". Dir ...more

I won this novel on Goodreads First Reads.I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I signed up for this giveaway. This wasn't the type of book I usually read but it looked fun, so decided to give it a chance.
The young man to be known as Cheesebomb sucked at life. He had just lost his third job and was soon to be evicted. He had little money and no friends. What he did have was a lot of porn and a dead fish. Then by pure chance he met Dirk Danger.Dirk Danger was a little mad, often hilarious, ge

Wow! Thanks first reads giveaways! I love waking up to a win of a book! I am looking forward to giving this new author a try!
I just finished reading this interesting book and I found it to be thought provoking and uplifting. I realized you must sometimes look at things from different angles and keep things interesting. I really enjoyed and the story had a good flow. This is one I think people should read. Thank you for letting me be a winner of this story. Thanks First Reads!

The plot of Dirk Danger Love Lifes is pretty straight forward, our protagonist is a young man who’s finding that he’s a bit rubbish at pretty much everything he turns his hand to. He’s lost countless jobs, is about to be evicted and can’t even keep his pet fish alive. So he responds to an advert that leads him to talk to Dirk Danger and agrees to meet with him and tell him just how much he sucks at life, and Dirk in turn decides he’s going to take on the he responsibility for fixing our nameless ...more
Oh jeeze, I'm terrible. "Review to come" like a month ago. Sorry.

Ahem, this was a really entertaining read. Rothe writes in a voice that makes the reader instantly comfortable, which enables you to sink into the story.

I don't recall laughing as much as I did through Dirk Danger through any other book. If you can make me laugh, I'm a fan for life. I also loved that the story isn't purely entertainment, it's motivational. Now, I don't mean motivational in that nauseating, "you can do it" infomerc

This is the story of a young twenty-something who "sucks at life" and finds himself befriended by a good-doer eccentric who invites him into his home and then aspires to turn his life around.

The novel reads like a comedic self-help book with intermittent chapters filled to the brim with genuine dispair, as if it can't decide what it wants to be. Is it a humorous book? A self-help book? A serious novel about hitting rock bottom? A strange combination of the three? Yes, I suppose it is.

Unbelievable read. The way Rothe wove such easily applicable themes through this brilliantly crafted storyline was remarkable. Both entertaining and inspiring; a difficult feat clearly accomplished here.
This book is quirky, funny and entertaining. Once I started it I couldn't put it donw. Great story, fun characters and brillian writing. I can't wait for Christ to write antoher.

Through a chance meeting with on old high school friend, I was introduced to the author of this wonderfully weird book, Dirk Danger Loves Life. I had the pleasure to sit with Chris Rothe and chat about the wonderful world of writing. After meeting, I just had to read his book, and I’m glad I did.

This quirky little tale starts off in the less than desirable apartment of the main character, known only as ‘Cheesebomb’. Cheesebomb has hit an ultimate low in his life. He’s just been fired from his th

Chris Rothe is a strange man who lives with his cat Majig in the Great White Shark... wait... sorry, the Great White North of Canada.

He can often be found rummaging through stacks of things to find an item he's lost. Oh, and writing. He can be found doing that too - sometimes more than is healthy.
