I loved how this story was set in a Fantasy world yet true to life. The relationship between Kara and Dylan felt like so many teenage relationships I've witnessed and experienced myself as a teen.
Morning Rising captured the torment of Kara perfectly. The heartbreak of loving someone who doesn't outwardly return the same type of love. Trying to help and guide someone who doesn't want either. Watching someone you yearn to make your own freely giving their attention and body to others. I wanted to...more

Morning Rising by Samantha Boyette (www.samanthaboyette.com), is an interesting mix of quest and fantasy set in a fantastical world, that though similar to ours, it is oh so different.
Teenager Kara Hart wakes up in the dark, confused. Confused because she has no idea where she is and the only memories she seems to have are fleeting ones of a girl named Dylan. She discovers she is no longer in her world, but in the world of Inbetween and that she must find Dylan and save her from the evil ruler....more

When I first began reading Morning Rising I was hesitant because I thought it would be to much like a lesbian love story. Though the two main character's; Dylan and Kara, do love each other and become a couple, it was far from what I had expected.
Dylan is a Princess in the Dayworld, and Kara is her Guardian. They were both sent to live in the human world for their protection, only now Kara has somehow traveled to the Inbetween without many m...more

Its a new, refreshing twist to a young adult romance novel.
Perks of reading Morning Rising:
-There's girl-on-girl action. (Hehehehe. This is for those who like that stuff. Nothing too hardcore. =D)
-There's war and destruction.
-There's superpowers.
-Its in another dimension/world where the egg yolks are purple.
-Yes, PURPLE.
Its great to see more female characters taking up the role of heroine.
GIRL POWER! Yay!
Morning Rising took me on a journey filled with heartbreak, curses, laughter and fun.

Characters: It took me a little while, but ultimately I ended up loving not only Dylan and Kara's relationship, but who they are as separate individuals. Kara is not only incredibly loyal and trustworthy, but she's brave and intelligent. Her love for Dylan is all encompassing and the lengths she goes to ensure Dylan is safe makes her interesting and admirable. Dylan is the epitome of a "bad girl". She's wild, free, charismatic and hard to ignore. At first I was a bit concerned that Dylan was goi...more
I really enjoyed this story. It was much darker than I anticipated going into it and I really enjoyed that aspect. Boyette is very creative and her world building is fantastic. The descriptions were so vivid that I could picture everything and for me, as a reader, that is so important. I have to be able to see what I am reading to enjoy the experience. Not once did I have to worry about not being able to "see" what the author was creating.

Samantha has shown herself to be a really good storyteller with this debut novel. Her characters are vivid, and the world of Inbetween is real and vibrant. The plot runs smoothly and the action was well paced. I was never bored and I look forward to the next installment in this series.
My favourite aspect of Inbetween was how it truly is a modern city, but unlike the cities we know, this is an otherworldly place as well. It is the realm of the fae, so modern technology and culture are just slight...more

This was teetering between a three and a four for me until the end. The last chapter really bothered me, and while I think I understand the purpose (can anyone say 'sequel'?), I thought it was to the detriment of the overall story.
more coming. Alas, work requires me to do work things.
Oops. I forgot about coming back to this.

Ever wonder why you didn't feel wanted and that the world you lived in didn't seem right to you. For Kara Hart life wasn't always a joy until that is she meet Dylan. She knew the feelings she had for the strange girl wasn't right, but love isn't always so easy. But when you wake up with no recollection of where you are and how you got there, just that you remember a girl named Dylan what was she supposed to do stand around and do nothing. Kara needed answers and with vague memories of Dylan she...more

I love books! If you love books you usually know you love reading all the time, but you know how sometimes when you finish reading a book and at that moment you know just how much you love books and reading? I was having that experience as I finished reading Morning Rising by Samantha Boyette and whispers of that feeling while I was reading her novel. I find it hard these days to have that pull a book creates, where you think about i...more

There’s a lot going on here – a fantasy adventure, set in alternate-reality dystopia, with a lesbian romance – but it works remarkably well. Kara captured my imagination right from the start. I loved her single-minded drive, her bold heroism, and her sweetly romantic nature. She not only stands out from her surroundings, she seems to brighten the world around her. Dylan was harder to warm up to as a character, but her relationship with Kara brought her to life, and set her up for a much stronger...more

I enjoyed 'Morning Rising'. The world the author has created was interesting, and enough was revealed to keep the story going, but not so much that there is no mystery left. I enjoyed the side characters very much. They were all very likable, and each had a unique personality.

A fun, rollicking adventure-romance that's in need of a good editing, but still well worth the 99-cent price. Boyette is an exciting and fresh new voice, and I can't wait to see what she does next.

Fantastically well written story. Interesting world building, and a range of great characters.
I loved Kara's character right away, though I did not like the character Dylan at all and kept wondering why Kara would go through so much to put up with someone like that. Throughout the story though, its explained and makes sense and towards the end of the book Dylan did redeem herself and become much more likeable.
Left at a good cliffhangery ending, looking forward to the next book in the series.
