I still don't know how to articulate anything about the experience of Peter Sotos, or really even why he's not just pure worthless smut (I'm convinced he's not), but I guess I should try.

First of all, despite the fact that at face value much of Sotos' writing seems to be very similar, it's not. This being the second book of his that I've finished (the first being Selfish, Little--written only two years before this one, I think), it's entirely different. One of my all-time favourite books, it absolutely redefined transgressive fiction for me. He demarcates limits, but they are only structural limits, and the playground he sets up within those limits plummets all the way into an infinite abyss and stretches into a gaping sore of a sky that reveals only such sights as to incite fear, despair, depravity and torment.
