True story of a girl fresh from the Sunset Strip scene in Hollywood. The grunge scene took over and left her hair band crowd in the dust. Where to go? What to do? It was as if a three year long party had just been broken up and no one remembered where they lived. Everyone was left with an identity crisis. Those who turned to drugs found themselves spinning out of control,...more

Aside from a super quick wrap-up, I really enjoyed this book and was cheering for the author the entire way.
Peppermint Twist
A true life 'Valley of the Dolls' with harder drugs. This book is the follow up to The Sunset Strip Diaries, which was a great read as well. It starts out with the ending of the hair band scene, and tells about what happened to the people Amy once knew. It goes on to detail the true story of her adventures after that scene- which are once again both disturbing and fascinating at the same time. She becomes a nanny for a British family, then moves into a big party house; she tries pulling one of h...more

I just finished and I have tears streaming down my face. I love this girl! I love her for her bravery in telling the absolute honest truth about herself. I love her for having amazing insight at such a young age. I love her for her humor and hoodspa (sp?). I am so proud to call her my friend. I have seen the wife and mother that she has become and never in a million years would I have guessed that she had been through all of this. She carries herself with such compassion and grace, although I us...more

Waste of time. Good thing it was short.

A quote from page 146: “Los Angeles makes me sad. It’s like confetti covered quicksand. You don’t notice you are sinking, because there is always a party going on around you, so sensationally slick and fun.”

Amy finds herself lost, not sure where to turn now that her party scene on the Sunset Strip has officially been taken over by the grunge movement. Does she stick around and become a washed up has-been, does she move? No. She does the only thing that she can think of to keep the party going;...more

"I was skeptical that Confetti Covered Quicksand couldn't possibly be as riveting as the Sunset Strip Diaries. I was wrong. I am lost for words and my mind is spinning at everything I've read. Both books have totally blown me away. I think I kinda feel like I did when Luke found out Darth Vader was his father ~ a curve ball I never saw coming. The ending has given me a lot to think about."

Congrats Amy for beating the odds! How did your sister and mother ever make out? I wish or sort of hoped that your sister would have seen what had become of you and followed suit.

Amy Asbury is the author of two memoirs, both of which have garnered an international following. The Sunset Strip Diaries tells of her teen years on Hollywood's most famous street, a place where musical history is made and the party never ends. The follow up book, Confetti Covered Quicksand, tells of the stark fallout from those wild years, and of her struggle to reinvent herself. Her third book i...more
