I was pleasantly surprised. A friend recommended it to me on facebook, and I loved it. I would say my one complaint is that there are quite a few editing errors, but my friend said the second is much better on the editing factor.

Regardless, it definitely got 5 stars for me. I love the characters. Riley had a lot of personality. With her situation, she could have easily been whiney and needy, but she often did her own thing regardless of the fact that she wasn't always the one to win in the situa

I stumbled across news of this great book right around its release earlier this year, because I go to college with the photographer of the covers. A bookworm as well as an admirer of her photography skills, I looked into the book itself and was pleased with what it seemed to be, which was right up my alley. Hidden world of magic suddenly thrust upon semi-loner strong female? Yeah, that describes a lot of books I'm into. I have no idea why it took me so long to actually sit down and read this boo ...more

Ember is about Riley Parker having to go to a new foster home. She's been in and out of several of them in the last year since her mother died in a fire in their old house. Now she's just trying to deal with new families, and new schools she never expects what she actually finds out.

There is a war going on between witches and other creates and Riley has just been put in the middle of because she can choose which side to be on. She see's that there is te

A friend recommended this series not too long ago. I fell in love with the first one and was happy to see the second come out just a couple weeks later. Now waiting for the third isn't that much fun. If anyone knows when it's coming, please let me know! The characters are so much fun to read, and I want to know each of their stories. There are some characters I feel could use some more developing in the first book, but I saw some of them get their time in the second. Perhaps the next will shed s ...more

This was a pretty good read. I'll definitely check out the rest. I've read the second one now, and you can see how much better the story and writing get. There are some things I would have liked more of in this book, but I have to say that the characters were great and the story had me hooked. The way the story unfolds keeps you reading, and I ended this one having to get the second book to figure out where it was going to go. This is worth trying out. I've heard there is another series, "Gift o ...more

I absolutely loved this book. It's such an easy and it's also addictive. I finished it very quickly. The story has so many great, and realistic, characters and is expertly woven full of imagination and detail. My favorite thing about the book is that Riley is a strong young female character instead of the damsel in distress who falls in love too easily as is the current trend in teen literature. Ember was such a breathe of fresh air!

Great read. It was something different. I thought it might get a little YA cheesy, but it wasn't. Totally loved it. There are characters for everyone to like. Funny, lovable, ones you hate and love to hate, mysterious, and more. Story is great. Left me wanting more. Can't wait to see what happens in the sequel.

A hard to put down book and thrilling read. It felt like the story was happening around you. The characters seemed to come out of the book. Its exciting waiting for the next book and pondering what is in store for Riley.

“Why am I here? I was falling off a cliff just a minute ago, and then I landed on your floor.”

Estelle looked down to the floor, up at the ceiling, and then to Riley. Estelle said, “There is no cliff above my ceiling.”
“But I didn’t kiss you?”

“No,” she replied. Then his hand slipped away, and when Riley opened her eyes, Jaden had stepped back. The wind was the only thing that kissed her lips.

“Boring dream,” he teased, grinning this time with the top half of his teeth gleaming.”
