Jack Skellington is the king of Halloweenland, but he feels something is missing from his life of spooking and creeping. When he discovers a door that leads to Christmas Town, he gets a crazy idea that just might bring meaning back to his life.

This is Tim Burton's original poem and illustrations, on which the movie of the same name was then based. It's a short read, but it gets the basic idea of the story across. It's a much simpler version than appears in the much more fleshed out film (I was s...more

Tim Burton is famous for alternating common themed story plots to stories with magical and fantasy based characters. Jack is from the Halloween world and is looking for something new in his life because he feels he does the same thing every day. His best friend who is a ghost dog, leads him to an enchanted area that has portals to new worlds and it takes him to a Christmas village. The excitement in his new discoveries generates those emotional memories of Christmas for young children. The combi...more

I loved this poem soooo much!!!!! I had watched the movie and didn't know it was based off a poem by Tim Buton, until I looked at the bonus features of The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD. I like how the base of it is The Night Before Christmas poem. He changes the original poem to give it a scary twist with lines like : Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was sleeping not even a mouse. GENIUS!!!!! Another exceptional job Tim Burton! :D

The reviews seem all mixed up in here. I read the picture book of the poem that the movie was based on, not a manga/graphic novel.

This was a lovely rhyming couplet rendition of the tale of our beloved Jack, the Pumpkin King. We greatly enjoyed it as a Christmas Eve read aloud and I especially loved the illustrations.

Encantador.

Tim Burton is weird, and weird is good. This charming respite of possible Christmas Tales is just the thing with hot cider, a roaring fire and christmas lights blinking. Play Alvin and the Chipmunks do Christmas Carols and you might find your self in contrarian heaven.

Hmm...A Nightmare Before Christmas ist ja eigentlich eine schöne Geschichte.

I would rate this 5 stars just for the artwork alone...absolutely gorgeous. LOVE the story--enchanting, moving, fun, and meaningful. The film is a classic, but this particular version of the book is even better. :) Burton is a true original!

This is an excellent retelling of the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. It has the same great artwork and looks great in a classroom library anytime of the year but especially around Halloween and Christmas time.

I'd be suuuuuuuuuuuper careful with this one. I bought this for a preschooler of mine who loved Nightmare Before Christmas and could handle the creepy stuff, but I can imagine this going horribly awry with the wrong kid!

Jack Skellington is in charge of Halloweenland. He makes it the creepiest place around, but he decides that he wants to bring Christmas to Halloweenland. This book has good illustrations and is a good read for students.

Imaginative. Haunting. Quirky. Bittersweet. The writing (verse) is superb, witty, and bold. The art is simply wonderful. Any fan of the film will find this to be a perfect storytime reader. Fun!

My kids both love this book, and so do I. They got it for Christmas this year and it's wonderful. The art is great, the story is great, the rhymes are great. Tim Burton rocks. Highly recommended.

Jack Skellington is legendary. The quirky story that inspired the fantastic movie. Impossible to read and not hear the music of Danny Elfman in your mind. Well...at least in my mind.

This is a beautifully illustrated copy of Tim Burton's original poem on which the film The Nightmare before Christmas, the plot is slightly different (a lot shorter) but the illustrations are very in keeping with the stunning look of the film.

In short if you are a fan of the film, this is a really nice book to own and read particularly around the Holidays.

Great to read to young ones looking to expand their vocabulary ( macabre, dismay, etc.). And not frightening since there is no mention of oogie boogie.

Tonight it was the bedtime story, again. Love this book, despite the odd bit that doesn't fit the rhyming scheme and made up phrase that makes no sense to me 'like the storm of a thistle'?

I had no idea that this story was a poem! I think this would be a great read for those students who think poetry is boring and dry.

Awesome! Great pictures to go with the great words. All kids books should have rhymes involving the word macabre.

I honestly liked the movie just a bit more, but this isn't bad. I was juat a little bit disappointed.

I love "The Nightmare Before Christmas!" And this book truly tells the story.
Beautiful artwork; Tim Burton knows how to get a story across through pictures.

I liked the illustrations but had expected more from the story as the movie was really good.

Creepy but some endearing characters. I really like Sally. Let's keep our holidays separate.
