For someone who finds matching her socks a sartorial challenge, I was knocked on my blue-denimed backside by the exquisite garments in this volume. I was especially drawn to the designs inspired by the peasant costumes. The love for color and pattern in the simple blouse and sarafans find their mark in the aristocratic costumes, though what was woven with red cotton thread is redone in gold and silver. a really lovely book on the fashion in the Russian State Historical Museum. It differs from a lot of other Russian fashion books in that it has a large section of historical costume worn by the peasants and middle class in the country. There's a lot of colorful and intricate festive dress on display and the book explains how town fashion influenced country fashion and vice versa over the centuries.
