DAD KNOWS BEST!

I originally bought the paperback of Get Lenin for my father as he enjoys a good war book. He enthused about it so I treated myself to a copy for my kindle.
Dad was right! Robert Craven has written a thoughtful and well-planned novel. From the beginning Craven gives us some vividly described characters and some history to each. His heroine Eva is a gorgeous sexy woman who after suffering a great loss uses her feminine charms to her advantage during desperate times and those of her...more

This was a good World War 2 thriller. It wasn't your normal spy story - the main character, Eva Molenaar, is a Polish girl who is gifted with languages. After the Spanish Civil War, one of her old friends finds her at home in Poland, working in a library. He recruits her into Polish Intelligence, but she does most of her work for the UK.

This story supposes a plot by the Germans to steal Lenin's body when they invade the Soviet Union and get to Moscow. It's more involved than that, but I'll leave...more

This book has action from the start. I wanted to read this book from the moment I sank my eyes into it. The writer has a very good way of presenting his voice and it doesn’t take long before the story grabs you. Just as I started thinking how well this book was written a fight seen breakouts, giving me the action I required, and not too far into the story.

Get Lenin is set in the midst of World War II and I found it to be an enjoyable read. The book also takes you on a journey through European s...more

Where to start... I avoid books about war like the plague. I think I was traumatised in my school years from having to learn everything about the great wars by heart for my Baccalaureat in History, now I just worry that even stories on a background of war will read like a history book.
But sometimes you just realise how good it is to come out of your comfort zone and tackle the odd demon. I'm glad I've read Get Lenin. And no, it doesn't read like a history book at all. I was totally drawn to Eva'...more

A Spy Story packed with intrigue and glamour.
The beautiful Eva is entrapped in the coils of espionage, turning into a hard professional as Europe teeters on the brink of Hitler-induced war. Then following a preamble of convoluted politics, which sometimes got me lost among all the names (my fault)a macabre climax takes place as Russia is held in a wintery thrall, and German, Russian and British secret forces vie with each other to get hold of Lenin's remains.
But there is still a soft side to Eva....more

This book is fast Paced and exciting a great blend for a spy novel. GET LENIN has wonderful characters with clever and unique traits; a blind spy? The author is very ingenious; Mr. Craven has special `espionage' techniques for his characters that I found as a reader fun and stimulating.
The reader will fall in love with the characters courage and feel their vulnerabilities As soon as I finished I HAD TO BUY Zinnman, I just could not get enough.
Be warned if you read at night you will not get much...more

The premise is quite original and the characters, of which there are too many, were richly created. The idea that Russia would collapse from a moral blow via the theft of Lenin's body did not ring true in a Stalinist era, but still the plot was interesting. The female protagonist Eva was a fascinating character that I would love to see portrayed in a movie.A worthwhile investment of your time and money

This was an engrossing and interesting story of the Germans planning a mission against the Russians to start a war. The storyline is a mixture of history and imagination, the characters are historical real people and well thought out characters of the authors imagination. I think this book would make a good movie.

I would recommend this book to all my friends that love to read as much as I do.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a well paced thriller set just before and during WW2. The plot and characters work well and are perfectly believable in a Jack Higgins or Alistair MacLean sense. The author, Robert Craven has clearly done a significant amount of research to ensure that the era, geography and politics provide a sense of authenticity. If you like WW2 thrillers, and characters with braun, then this is well worth a go.

Though not a book I would normally choose to read, but recommended to me, I found I really did really enjoy Get Lenin. I was pulled into the story and it is paced very well. It is clear that the author has done a lot of research on the era and politics which made it all the more believable. This is the first book I’ve read by Robert Craven, but it sure won’t be the last!

This novel is set during Hitler's invasion of Poland. In a bid to occupy Russia after the conquest of Poland, and to shatter the morale of the Red Army, Hitler plans to steal the entombed body of Lenin. The Allies, are hell bent upon thwarting the plan.

Spy thriller in its best form.

this could have been a lot better. It started as a decent thriller but got increasingly silly towards the end. Still it was entertaining as a holiday read while in Russia.
