I'm not a very big fan of promiscuous heroines and let's face it, Sam liked her men. However, I really wanted to read this story because of Ian's past. I did like the book but it was very hard to get past Sam's varied past.

This was a wonderful book. I love anything Highlander, and this story didn't disappoint. Ian MacLean is a tortured soul, after being imprisioned by demons for 66 years, he has comes to live in the present and left his family and his true time, in the past.
Everything is perfect from the outside looking in, Ian is rich, modern and arrogant. He uses women for sex, gets what he wants and has the money to buy what ever he doesn't take.
There is one thing he can't or doesn't have, Samantha Rose.

AWESOME!! and heartwrenching. It made me cry more than once. So far, I think this is my favorite of the series. I just love Ian what a poor tortured soul. His tory just about ribbed my heart out. It kinda reminded me of Acheron. Sixty six years as a captive of a sadistic demon. How he survived is truly a miracle. Sam Rose is a spectacular heroine and a slayer to boot. Their "romance" was volatile and sexy. The sex scenes were something else and rather violent and uncontrollable.

It's like a famil

Dark Lover is the fifth book in Brenda Joyce's Masters of Time series. Ian Maclean spent 66 years imprisoned by a powerful demon suffering from unspeakable torture as a nine year old boy. His father eventually freed him from this demon, but Ian carries horrible emotional scars. He has spent the last twenty five years building up his wealth and power in the hopes that nothing like that will ever happen to him again. Samantha Rose works for a secret government agency which keeps track of demonic a ...more

Marekted as a paranormal romance and its a series... Well...I suppose it is what I expected... the characters are all perfect gorgeous folks (both good and bad guys). Their hearts are always lurching, that is when their eyelashes aren't fluttering and everyone loves something or someone impossibly. Oh and the best adjective for describing physical beauty is 'hot' with the occasional 'really hot' thrown in for good measure. Oh if you crave the excessive use of pop culture phrases from the 90's, i ...more
4.5 stars!

Ian Maclean is arrogant, wealthy, powerful, selfish and antisocial. These are traits that wouldn’t make a very likeable hero but still he is because his behavior and look on life and the world was profoundly altered after he was killed, revived and held captive for 66 years by his demon grandfather and tortured by said grandfather and his demon friends with their perverted games.

Ever since a demon killed her mother and she wasn’t able to safe her, Sam Rose has taken it upon her to hun

Still trying to catch my breathe!
Last book of the series and so sorry to say goodbye to all the characters, however let me tell you these stories may have started kind of slowly in "Dark Seduction", but every book picked up speed and steam as the characters and the plot lines grew more defined as the series continued!

Brenda Joyce! What can I say that will pay tribute to this wonderful woman? (Yes, I'm that speechless)

Joyce writes the Masters of Time series. Basically, the Masters are anicent (near immotal, so they age really well!) Highlanders who have amazing powers. They take vows for the old gods they worship and then are considered Masters.
What is a Master? Well.... The Masters vow to protect the innocent and to use their powers only for good. These men not only age well and have amazing powers, they,

What an awesome book this was!

Ian Mclean son of Aidan the wolf of Awe, has been a playboy millionaire, who is ruthless and always gets what he wants sex, art, money, homes, cars, etc. And he doesn't play by fair rules. Then he get intrigued by Samantha Rose, he plays with her and mocks her. And she pissed off at him for humiliating her back in his place in Oban, when she had asked him to take her back in time to help her sister Tabitha.

DARK LOVER, last in the Rose Trilogy and latest in the Masters of Time series, drew me in, but ultimately left me wondering if I missed something. I liked Samantha (Sam) and was intrigued by Ian, but the two of them together didn't make my heart race.

Ian was tormented, abused and used by demons for centuries—so he has some...disturbing character quirks, at times (not the least of which seems to be his disregard for tact), and Samantha locked away all her emotions in an effort to combat witnessin

Ian MacLean, is son of a Master and even though e could also be one, is too biter to want to be one, and only cares about power and money. Then he meets Samantha Rose, who is more determined to find the page from the Book of Power. Samantha is beautiful and used to leading men on a string and being in control of every situation. However when it comes to Ian MacLean, its a whole different ball game. Samantha knows that she is out of her element, when she is faced with Ian, who is a bitter man wit ...more
Much, much more enjoyable than the earlier works in the series, Dark Lover focuses on Ian Maclean, the tormented son of Aidan of Awe who had been captured and tortured by demons for more than half a century. The mosaic of scars on his back are a physical manifestation of the fractured nature of his soul. Although a man of medieval times, Ian chooses to live in modern NY, and this is one of the first atypical aspects of this very typical series.

Another unusual character is Samantha Rose, a Slayer

Honestly, is there anything better than time traveling Highlanders?

I anxiously waited for this book for months, only to realize that my order didn't come in! I went to the book store, the wonderful Chapters, with my receipt and I finally got the book. I read it in one sitting while I was supposed to be studying Math.

Of all Masters, Ian (even though he isn't exactly a Master) is the most tortured one. When the novel started, I was frustrated at Ian for the way he acted with women and especiallyu

This was definitely the best of the series...I like Nick Forrester, and hope he gets his own HEA one day. But the best part of this book was that Sam and Ian were very equal. In the previous 4, my complaint was that we have strong 20-21st century women but in the face of the hotness of the Masters, they melt/swoon and are almost useless, despite the fact that the author tries to prove to the men that they are better with their women beside them. It never flows. Sam and Ian are good together and ...more

This third book of the Rose Trilogy (Masters of Time series) you discover the dark heartwrenching story of Ian Maclean's tortured childhood in captivity at the hands of his evil grandfather and his demons. Horrific nightmares, flashbacks and panic attacks torment Ian daily even 25 years after being released, molding him into the coldhearted playboy art thief he is today. YOWSIE, you pick up a book and what a spectacular surprise, you find out it being. This author keeps delivering that for me.

I definitely have a review in detail coming out for Dark Lover.
I LOVE the paranormal and historical twist of this author.
She is a Karie Marie Moning and JR Ward twist with her very very dark but redeemable characters. I promise a review will come for this one. I read this book after Bengal's Heart by Lora Leigh and if you've read my Calling all paranormal posts in groups

Spoilers This was a helluva book. Now some people couldn't handle Sam's sexuality but I found her to be a Wonder Woman type. These powerful types fight hard and bang hard. more power to her!
This story got to me, the abuse Ian withstands almost makes you wanna join in the fight and slay some demons and protect that boy. How Sam grows and sacrifices herself for him was probably the most heartbreaking thing I've read in the series. And then the Gods allowing Ian to stay with Sam. I mean wow. Great
I skipped #4 to read this one first, I really wanted to see the relationship between them play out. It ruined only a bit of #4 to be honest since #5 had much flashbacks to what had happened between them. There is a lot of child abuse issues in this book and very evil, perverted people. It put me off a bit but I suppose when you're dealing with Satan and such that's part of it.

This was my fav book of the series and I hope Brenda Joyce hopes to write move in this field. I really would like to hear Nick's story and have a modern day masters of time and This book was definatley darker than any of the previous works in this series and I enjoyed trying to figure it out along the way.

This was a great conclusion to the series but I am sorry to have it end. I enjoyed every book and this finale was terrific because all the characters from past books join forces to defeat their worst foe yet. Friends and families reunite and broken hearts and relationships are mended. Ian ended up being a great hero but his father Aidan will remain my favorite highlander of the Masters.

This is continuation of the Masters of Time series. Ian has been held prisoner by demons for decades so he has a lot of scars - both physical and mental. Samantha is a slayer who is trying got recover a stolen page from the Book of Power. Ian and Samantha have a lot of overcome due to Ian's past and the evil that is trying to torment him.

Another fantastic sexy highlander (Ian) with a tormented past, brought from the past to love a modern day warrior woman (Sam) and overcome his memroies/nightmares. Great story! The Satan part was a bit much, but how else could they have the possessions and swaping of evil souls? A nice dose of good vs. evil with a bit of steamy sex. Just as good as the rest in this series, can't wait for more!
