Veronica Mason is a failing witch and successful musician on the verge of signing that all-important record contract. Then she loses her bass-player, starts having visions and dreams, and finds herself under suspicion in a vampire FBI inquiry. All she needs now is for the paranormal investigators to get on her case.

Buzz is a bass-playing playboy with all the right moves and music, but how did he suddenly appear just when Veronica needed him, and can he be trusted? Veronica’s voice in this first-...more

I started reading this yesterday and couldn't put it down.

I'd had it on my kindle for a while, and kept glancing at it and thinking, hmm what was that one about again and then getting distracted. Listening to the radio and Elvis came on - I think this is what prompted me to start reading it. Seemed meant to be that at the time I wanted to read something new.

Anyhow, so glad I did. Veronica Mason is by all accounts a pretty darn fine singer looking for her big break. Her band (at the beginning) ar...more

In a world of Supernaturals as it seems that with the turn of the years , many are coming out of the closet. For Veronica , she is considered safe in the supernatural world as she is in fact a Witch who has visions. What started as a fun but scary night out as Veronica and her Rock N Roll band are invited to play at a Vampire Bar, this was supposed to be a safe night out as two of the members of her band were Vampires. Though of course, it ended in a bar fight with Veronica getting a bottle of b...more

I’d like to start off by thanking Rose Pressey for a review copy of Rock ‘n’ Roll is Undead. I was really intrigued by the synopsis and loved the idea of a paranormal book set in a rockabilly world. It’s definitely a unique take on the genre and I was excited to read it.

There were a lot of things I liked about Rock ‘n’ Roll is Undead. The rockabilly scene is vividly portrayed through Veronica’s music, band, lifestyle, and personal style. A lot of thought has obviously gone into building Veronica...more

Rock `n' Roll is Undead is a book that takes place over 3 days of Veronica Mason's life. The story starts out at her show, just doing her normal thing when she's packing up to leave and she finds Johnny, her bass player in ashes. Suddenly she can see the killer's thoughts before the murder as well as Johnny's, an ability she's never had before as a witch, a term she uses loosely. When these creepy occurrences keep happening and the vampire detective on the case begins suspecting Veronica for mur...more

What a great read! I love finding something new and different from what I typically read and that is exactly what this is. Veronica Mason, lipstick witch and rockabilly singer extraordinaire has been having some scary dreams that are about to become a crazy scary reality. Late one night after a gig and a couple of days before her big performance in front of a record producer she finds her vampire bass player staked and nothing more than a pile of ashes. The craziness ensues from there. She’s bei...more

Right before a big gig with a possible record deal one of the band members gets staked and dies leaving them scrambling to find another guitarist to fill his shoes!! Bass player hotness Buzz shows up to take the place of the dead vampire!!

Rock'n'Roll is Undead is a unique twist to the current paranormal vamp...more

So, my holiday hiatus from reading has finally ended. I’ve read two books in less than twenty-four hours and I’m churning to start another one. (This would be about the time that my dear husband starts to remark “I wish you’d put those books away for five seconds” followed by a distinct huff.) Before diving into another novel though, I thought it best to at least review the two I’ve read first.

First up is Rock ‘n’ Roll is Undead (Veronica Mason Series, Book 1) It’s about a Rockabilly Witch (thou...more

Yes, this book is as quirky as the cover looks. Veronica is not only in a band with vampires, playing at vampire bars but she is a witch. And a very, very bad witch. Not evil, just not any good at it. The running joke is every spell she does she gets a tube of lipstick based on a spell gone wrong when she was 5, so her mom and her best friend are always asking her for lipstick. lol

I love the phrases Rose Pressey uses in this book, I realize she is from Kentucky but that's n...more

Another winner from Rose Pressey! Let the fun begin.

Veronica mason and the Voodoo Zombies are playing at a vampire bar, with a record producer coming out to hear them in a few days. All of a sudden mayhem breaks out in the form of a vampire bar fight. When the coast is clear enough Veronica starts making her way to her car. She stops by the new bass player's van and finds him in ashes. With a vision of the staking playing in her mind. So begins this delightfully fun book. Veronica is a witch. On...more

What intrigued me most about this one was the Memphis Rockabilly scene in which the story is set. IMHO, Rockabilly is waay underrepresented in pop culture in all media, yet it's so rich in material. What's not underrepresented, though, is vampires. In this story, I felt the paranormal element detracted from what would otherwise be a pretty decent introduction to a mystery series.

I loved the mixture of Rockabilly sensibilities and the small-time music scene--for a long time, most publishers didn'...more

This book was more mysterious than the Ghoulfriends book. I really enjoyed the characters in this book as well. This is a true who dunnit (but with vampires, werewolves, and witches). I loved the whole independent rockabilly idea and even though you would think of those girls as being tough she really was a softy and needed protection. She sounded as dainty as the flowers she would put in her hair. Yet, there was still something strong in her will and with her tenacity that I really liked. She r...more

I purchased this book because I really enjoyed Me and My Ghoulfriends by Rose Pressey. After reading the description of Rock 'n' Roll is Undead, I thought it would be a slam dunk winner. Vampires, witches, romance, and murder mystery wrapped in the sexy world of rockabilly? FANTASTIC!
Holy crap was I wrong.
The characters couldn't have been more bland or boring. The dialogue had me seriously considering if my Kindle could survive being chunked outside out of sheer frustration. These are supposed...more

There were things I liked about this books and some things I didn't. For the most part I liked Veronica. I liked that she's an inept witch. I liked that she has her own sense of style and she loves her music. However, I really, really, REALLY disliked her friends and the people she had surrounded herself with. Her guitarist was a jerk, her best friend was a clueless idiot... I don't know. Part of me couldn't see why she would bother surrounding herself with these types of people. They weren't go...more

Veronica is a witch with attitude. She loves to sing and she and her band perform at a vampire bar at the start of the novel. When a fight breaks out, she runs outside to escape. There, she finds her newest bass player, a vampire, staked and turned into ashes. She knows she has a mystery on her hands. Because of the first player's unfortunate demise, she tracks down another bass player-one who is dreamy and handsome. The reader will enjoy reading the dialogue, humorous at times while serious in...more

There is no cure for my insomnia so it's best that I read a fun book during those long hours. Discovering Rose Pressey's books have certainly helped me relax. My husband and dogs may not appreciate me laughing out loud at 3 in the morning but oh, well, they eventually get over it! That said, this first book in the series does not disappoint. As always, Pressey's main character is definitely someone I'd like to meet. And who could resist a best friend who hates changing into a werewolf because th...more

This is a pretty cute addition to the paranormal mystery books. I liked the setting (Memphis) and the main character is a rock-a-billy singer. I would like to have seen more of the rock-a-billy scene. The writer talks about the scene, but never really shows it.

My main beef with the book is that the main character doesn't do very much and she seldom makes decisions. Things happen to her, but she doesn't do much herself. And when she does take action, the sequence almost always includes phrases l...more

‘Rock ‘N’ Roll is Undead’ is an enjoyable, easy to read, murder mystery /romance with vampires, witches and a werewolf as the main characters. It’s a good read for fans of murder mysteries who like a touch of the paranormal, especially if they’re into Rockabilly.

Veronica is a well drawn and likable character. I especially liked her wit, which gave a lightness that I like in murder mysteries. Without her well written distinctive ‘voice’ and the delightful flavour added by her passion for rockabil...more

Veronica Mason is a rockabilly singer in a band of all vampires. She finds her bass player's body outside the Lipstick Lounge after a performance and has a vision of him being staked. She can't make out the killer's face, but chalks it up to being a bad witch. Bodies start piling up and she is being followed, among other things. Now, she must try to trust a man her heart wants to love while finding a killer and trying to get a record deal from a recording label. Talk about a busy life!

This is such a great book, truly one of my favorites. Veronica Mason is the lead singer of a rockabilly band...the other members are vampires. One night one of her bandmates winds up dead..deader and the exciting and often funny race to figure out who the killer is ensues.

Rose Pressey is an amazing author and this was the first book of hers I read and it's still my favorite. The characters are well developed and engaging and the story is fast-paced and entertaining. I got sucked in right away a...more

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/new-r...

Veronica Mason and her rockabilly band, The Voodoo Zombies, are about to get their big break. Then Johnny, Veronica’s vampire bass player is found staked through the heart. If that’s not bad enough, Veronica – a witch whose powers never seem to work well at all – has a vision of Johnny’s murder. She could just let the paranormal police handle it, but strange things start happening; strange cars are following h...more

Rock, Tattoos, 50's glam, witches and vampires, what more can a reader ask for. This book is a fun, unputdownable read filled with mystery, romance, magic and tons of rockabilly action!

Veronica is the lead singer of a rockabilly band called The Voodoo Zombies, funny enough, there are no zombies in the band. It's just normal people, like a few vampires and Veronica the witch. Their big break is coming and a record deal is in the works when a band member is stake...more

Veronica Mason is the fun and quirky singer of the rockabilly band The Voodoo Zombies. She is also a witch, but she kind of sucks at it and has an endless supply of lipstick because of it. Though I loved her random commentaries because they made me laugh, it became a bit distracting at times. Veronica finds herself in the middle of a series of vampire murders, and it seems the next victim will be her.

Buzz, the gorgeous new bass player, is to die for And Veronica has a really hard time of keepin...more

I absolutely adore Rose Pressey and her characters. It is rare that you find a writer that can create a new friend every time they write a book, but so far, Ms. Pressey has pulled it off. However, of all the series she has written, this has got to be the beginning of my favorite. I love the way Ms. Pressey skillfully combined the rock-a-billy culture with the paranormal to create a swinging, killer, good time! Can't wait to get the next one in this series!
Naj (Unputdownable Books)
Rose Pressey vividly drew the rockabilly scene into these virtual pages so brilliantly. Her writing style was unique so was the story itself. New characters, unique scenarios, hot men, vampires, witches and the whole Paranormal lot. As much as I'd like to say, I haven't heard something like this before, I can't. I can't really blame Pressey for this. Its really hard to write something new now-a-days.

On the upside, I really liked Veronica, she isn't annoying, overwhelming, weak or the strong wit...more

I was told about this book from a friend of mine, she said I would like it... and I did!

Humor, mystery..

I will agree with some of the reviews I read, I didn't necessarily like Veronica Mason a whole lot, maybe because I don't feel I got to know her completely.. Her brother's death, overall her and her family's history... Maybe in the next book.

This story kept me entertained, I couldn't put it down. I kept trying to figure it out .. LOL. Did not end the way I expected LOL.

Great job Rose Pressey...more

Actual rating 2.5 stars.

This one just fell a little flat for me, and up until the last 15-20% of the book, I really struggled while reading it. The characters didn't have much characterization, in my opinion, which made it hard for me to care for them, the mysteries (who the killer was and the truth about who Buzz really is) were predictable and easy to figure out, and the dialogue was a little...weak (so not the word I'm looking for, but I can't think of the one I want) at times.

I will say that...more

Pressey's "Rock and Roll is Undead' was like a breath of fresh air. I was fascinated as to how the story of a rockabilly witch could merge into that of a paranormal romance; my fascination soon turned into real enjoyment.

What I really enjoyed about this book, alongside the originality of the idea for the main plot, was the quirkiness of it all; the characters, the humour, the many twists and turns... and I must admit that I am one of those annoying readers who usually spot the red herrings and w...more

I really enjoyed this book. I loved that the main character was a curvy witch with tons of spunk and tattoos with a 50s flair for fashion. It was hard to put this book down and I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out. This is by far my favorite Rose Pressey creation.

This book is very humor and keeps you guessing until the last second (at least I was, anyway).

The main character, Veronica, is funny and sassy, and the story is told with a lot of details.

Great book if you like Rockabilly or mystery, and it has a little bit of romance too.
