As with his earlier book, Frogtown, Lake Street USA helped me in some small way to connect with the people of the state in which I was born. One can see the influence of Garry Winogrand on the artist (spontaneity and suggestion are strong features of the work here), and the excerpts of interviews are well-chosen, and increase the sense of intimacy with the people depicted in the photos.
