I received a complimentary copy of this book from Goodreads First Reads.

I not only enjoyed this book for the poems, but I love the photos.

Looking into the eyes of those who have left this earth fills me with both happiness and sadness. For those who come from large families, the endless bonds that form your bank of memories is priceless.

I can relate to the transition your life takes you through as you grow up and others close to you grow old.

Great collection!

Firstly, let me say a big Awwwwwwww. Though the age number in my passport would suggest that I was a grown-up, I am not psychologically mature yet. Therefore, I sometimes have to express myself this kind of childish way.

But this book is such an adorable collection of poems. Author lets reader to get a glimpse of her big family, showing us the lovely pictures and poems of them. Poems celebrate life, giving life, family, mothers, motherhood, and remind values that should never be forgotten. This

As I mentioned in my "comments", I think this was sent to me by mistake - my mistake. I probably signed up to receive a copy on First-Reads without realizing that it was memoir of poetry. I love historical fiction, so the word "immigrants" sucked me in. That being said, I really enjoyed the book. It arrived on or near the 11th anniversary of 9/11. As luck would have it, I opened the book to the poem concerning 9/11. I liked it so much that I was going to post it on FB, but thought I might be bre ...more

As a young teen, I am normally not the type of person who reads poetry in my spare time, because I enjoy a novel with a plot and characters that are well developed and so on. But Matriarch changed my point of view. The book is a journey through a family's heritage. I found myself not only being able to enjoy each poem individually, but combine them to enjoy the experience as a whole. I felt like I could really relate to the poems, and reflect them onto things I've experienced and continue to eve ...more

I enjoyed this book so much that I find myself going back to it time and again. Each time I reread one of the poems I find another nuance to savor, and something to relate to. As a mother, daughter, sister, friend, niece, cousin, etc. I can remember moments in my own life that parallel those described through the poetry of Matriarch - A Journey Through Tradition.
