The world created in Ruined was really interesting. I liked how certain people could ride shadows and they'd instantly be where they needed to be.I was jealous every time Jessa and Vale got to travel that way! I also liked how it was explained that there were different realms, and how Jessa and Vale's ancestors came into this Realm from the Mortal one because they didn't like how battle hungry the anglo saxons were that attacked the area of where they lived. After arriving in this realm, More...

Ruined is the steamy and stormy tale of Jessa and Vale, the Healer and the reluctant Shadow Shifter King.
Vale, after his brother King Zander’s death, is faced with a throne he doesn’t want, a corrupt court, advisors who are not afraid to use murder or threaten the passion he feels for the Senior Healer.
Jessa risks her own life each time she saves someone from death. This selflessness isn’t enough to deter t More...

Jessa has had her named besmirched all because she's a healer. Everyone in her village thinks she has given herself to Vale's brother, King Zander. She's tarnished, wanton, used. When Zander goes missing, she's called to confirm whether she can feel his life force even as it ebbs away. She can't save him if she can't touch him. Though her heart breaks with the loss of her friend, now she'll be forced into the service of his brother, Vale.

Wow. Great read. I fell in love with these characters. I just couldn't put down the book. I had to know what happened next and I love that. Though I lost some valuable sleep it was worth it!!
The passion and intense emotion was captivating. Kinley Baker wove a deep, complex tale that kept me engrossed from start to finish. Well done!!

Interesting world building and characters that captivated me to the end, but there were also some tropes of "category romance" (ie - Harlequin books) that I'm personally not a huge fan of, which lead to some frustration with the book. Still, there is enough in the world to make me want to read more about the secondary characters.

Let's see, what can I say about Ruined? Oh my. *Deep sighs of orgasmic passion.* I repeat, oh my. I did want to crawl into this book several times and kick Vale in the shins because for a smart proud man he is a dumbass when it comes to Jessa. Still, he knows how to satisfy his woman. Oh my. Other than that, wow, this is my kind of book. I am a Kinley Baker fan. Oh my. I love the world she swept me into. It's such an easy fantasy to enjoy and the magic is killer. The romance was fun. Oh my. And

An excellent read that sweeps the reader away to a realm of sexy kings, castles, and true love. The emotion and beautiful romance between the hero and heroine was so touching. There were parts where I was at the edge of my seat wondering if Vale and Jessa would have their happily ever after! I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. Kinley Baker is a talented author.

This book was great. The chemistry between the two main characters is undeniable, and the romance didn't take anything away from the kingdom part of the story. Kinley is amazing, and I will definitely be reading her future books.

I really enjoyed this fun, fast-paced novel. It was a welcome retreat into a skillfully drawn world complete with heroes, villains, and a heroine who is just plain likable. Congratulations, Miss Baker, on a fine debut!
