The ultimate guide to choosing a medical specialty

Part 1 was the most useful; however, it was less comprehensive than I thought, and I personally believe that it could be better presented in a more interactive way (e.g. check list tables and such that could be filled by the reader).

Part 2 has some very useful data regarding each specialty, but I found it a bit repetitive. It would be better if comparison diagrams or tables were made to highlight the differences between the surgical subspecialties. And also similarly for medical and subclinical...more

Unfortunately, it's written only for Us students , focusing too much on life style , sallary and so on of any speciality rather than explaining what a speciality about , what is the doctor role and how both could match ..

Maybe the only useful info is the part talking about choosing a speciality based on one's personality type ..

Recommends it for: medical students trying to figure out what they want to do
This was a pretty good and helpful book, but its helpfulness was somewhat mitigated by the fact that a lot of the data for it is nearly 10 years old. It is still useful, and provided me with some good insight into different specialties and the kinds of things that each type of doctor can do. Part II, which is a series of chapters about each specialty, associated subspecialties, and what the training is like, was the most helpful part.

Now I need to go look up more recent Match statistics and medi...more

Great book if you are thinking about one specialty. Yet, not that much useful for confused interns with many specialities to decide.
Part 1 was really helpful and informative.I also found it more enjoyable. Part 2 was all about encouraging one to go for the specialty in mind.
I loved the book anyways.

It's a great idea to write such a book and it is the only point in my life time i could get benefit of such a book when i'm about to choose my specialty in medicine.
The book was very helping but a little bit over detailed and long.
THANKS BRIAN FREEMAN !!
