I loved it! It was a quick, fast-paced story that literally left me breathless (in a good way)! Before starting the book, I was very curious as to how the author would be able to introduce and work a decent story with vampires, angels, witches and demons into 210 pages... she DID and did it wonderfully!

I not usually into vampire books, but because I liked Devin O'Branagan's first book, Witch Hunt, I decided to give this a try. I was so pleasantly surprised. Although labeled a Young Adult book, this older adult enjoyed it immensely.

There’s a lot of love about Glory – both the character and the novel. You’d think that being young adult fantasy, it would lack some of the depth and darkness that her novels Threshold and Witch hunt delved into - but you would be mistaken. It’s just a bit more subtle. Good vs. evil; hope or hate for humanity; whether a dog can really save the human race – it’s all there.

To say the least for being a book of only 210 pages Devin has packed this book with so many details that keep you turning page after page until you are finished. The main character Glory is a girl who the whole world depends on for a cure to a plague that has killed her father and is killing others.She is assigned to three very different people to keep her safe and get her to where she needs to be and eventually she develops feelings for two of them. I was anxious to get this book since it has an Australian Shepherd in it and supernaturals too! It is a quick read and I didn't do much except read yesterday - finished around midnight. I really liked the heroine, Glory, who rose to the occasion after tragedy and was plunged into a world she didn't know existed. This is such an interesting concept. I especially loved the mix of supernatural creatures that join in on the adventure with glory. Witches, vampires, angels, and dogs- oh my!

Glory is such an inherently good girl. She really cares about other people. She is so selfless, and it was really inspiring. Glory, the main character of the book Glory is a 17 year old. Her father is a painter, mom is a medical researcher. Glory has recently taken up photography and they own a Australian Sheppard named Hallelujiah (Hallie for short).

The book is written in the first person, and starts off with Glory taking care of her father, who has fallen ill with the same illness that has recently become a pandemic Plague, killing thousands (at least) of people. The book is written in the first person, and starts off with Glory taking care of her father, who has fallen ill with the same illness that has recently become a pandemic Plague, killing thousands (at least) of people. Within the first chapter, Glory becomes ill herself and ends up laying on the same bed as her father, with the dog in between them. She has a hazy memory of her mother coming home, injecting her with something, and after that things move very quickly.

Her mother is kidnapped, Glory and Hallie end up going into hiding and she seeks out the help of a person her mother has told her to contact. This first book of the series chronicles Glory's quest to find her mother's missing team/co-workers and to give them samples of her own blood, since her mother has made sure that she had the last surviving dose of the cure for the plague.

Helping her on her quest is of course, Hallie (who seems to be an extra special dog) and two seemingly teen boys and a young woman. They turn out to be members of other species (vampires, angels, witches...) and Glory learns lessons of acceptance and trust, while her guardians seem to be learning the same thing.

Glory and her new friends don't have it easy - they are put through one test after another, find themselves in danger more than once and each of them seems to have a personal crisis, as someone or some people who have a lot of power don't want them to succeed in bring Glory's blood to good use.

I enjoyed the story very much. Hallie the dog, was a pretty strong secondary character. The other characters were interesting - each had their own culture and way of thinking. The only thing that pulled me out of the story a bit, was Glory's almost too-formal-speech for a teen, and the extreme jealousy that the two men had over Glory. I understand that they were possible being played, and being an older more "jaded" person, I'm not that into the romancy, jealous behaviour of boys. I think a teen girl might have found this highly entertaining though.

Over all, I think this was a good story - I loved the angle of the pandemic with Glory's quest pushing her to her limits to get to the missing research team in one piece so that they could begin working on a cure for others. I also liked that not everything came easy to the crew. They went through some bad times, and suffered some losses.

Though there were some mush-gushy scenes (mushy to me), there was nothing extremely graphic in the sex department. Even the violence, was done with a light touch - it wouldn't be too much for a mature middle grade student to read.

There will be more novels with Glory's story coming in the future.(less)

Glory is a teenager girl, unaware to the hidden world, who gets into a difficult situation without realizing. Soon, she finds herself trying to save too many people. She has to take this journey, along with some unfamiliar people, in order to do that. The book is actually a race, while their main obstacle is time. This time is running out as they are trying to save humanity.

I like the fact that we don't get any illusions, I appreciate that the author didn't waste any time; she quickly introduced us to a unique world, where some different creatures live in. The book includes a variety of characters, each represents a whole world. You get to know a lot of them, their personality and their lives in the magical world, which give the story a better aspect.

Glory is a girl I liked to admire, even if sometimes she is whining too much. Her world shatters down around her and she still seems to go get her goals. She doesn't try to be a brave, she knows she has to. She is a leader, caring and emotional. It is well seen in her relationship with her dog, as they take care of each other for the whole book. Although she expresses a lot of emotions toward her parents, I felt like her past was a lot more blurry than it was supposed to be. It'd have been great if we could have heard about her friends, her school and her memories.

With so many characters, came a lot of issues needed to be discussed. Since it's not possible to skip them, it makes a situation where the book contains all of them- it simply can't, so problems don't get the full development they need. While I believe the author dealt well with most of them, I would rather have seen less of them. In addition, the book was more about talking than acting. Reading a conversation, I wished I could know how they're acting, how they look like, what their faces were saying. Glory is surely the one to express feeling, but the other characters' body language should be saying a lot, too.

Feeling the danger and the pain around, I got to drive with Glory and the guys to save humanity from humanity. Dealing a lot of obstacles, Glory tries to stay in focus, fulfill her mission and to figure out what love actually is.

I really enjoyed the book and I'd love to read more of the author's works in the future. Glory's adventures are not over yet and I hope I'll get to travel with her one more time!

This is a first! This YA novel is self-published and I actually like it! As a book blogger, I am contacted often by authors who self-publish and want their books reviewed. Honestly, I rarely read them because the writing is so bad I can't finish the book. But O'Branagan's tale about Glory and her other "superhero" protectors was interesting. The book is little and short, but she manages to pack a lot of details in. The book is definitely plot driven, but it works.

The book starts with a young girl names Glory by her father’s death bed. He is dying from the pan-plague which is killing off huge portions of the population. Glory catches the plague from her father while tending to him and her mother returns from work to find them both dying. Her mother, one of the scientists who are working on creating a vaccine, tells Glory that her team found the cure, but once a select few were given the vaccine the company she works for, Scorpio destroyed all remaining vaccine viles. . . except for one. She escaped with the one vile left and can only save one. After Glory is given the vaccine and now the worlds’ only hope for a cure, her mother sends her to see a priest who contacts the “Caretakers” and appoints three protectors for Glory. Zane a cowboy vampire, Aria a physic witch, and Dominic, Glory’s guardian angel are sent to protect her in her journey to locate the other scientists that worked with her mother so that they can create the antidote from her blood.

I really liked the idea of this book, there are a lot of great characters and ideas in it but it was too much for one book. At only a little over 200 pages the entire story is crammed in to read more like a Syfy movie then an actual book it might be based on. I don’t think the characters aren’t given enough time to develop and there isn’t much internal monologue. I do like the story itself and hope to read more about Glory in further books, but I just wish the story would have been spread out more and taken its time.

Glory's paranormal aspects include most of the usual suspects - vampires, angels, spirits, witches and hunters. These paranormal creatures are put into a storyline with a dystopian undercurrent. While it is its own unique series, it does have some commonalities with a couple other YA series. The series that immediately come to mind are Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires, Cate Tiernan's Sweep and Lisa Desrochers' Personal Demons.

Vampires, but not as we usually see them, witches, angels and a young girl, all there to save the world. Oh, and a brave dog. All against a group of scientists intent at destroying billions of men, women and children.
A great story, wonderfully told, unforgettable characters, what more do you want? A sequel, of course!
