I really like animal fantasy, like Watership Down and Charlotte's Web , which is why I asked for and received several books out of the Redwall series for Christmas some years ago, and even though I'm an adult, those of you who know me know that I enjoy an occasional dabble with young adult fiction. But after reading Redwall itself, I haven't read another book in the series until now. I wouldn't say they are bad books; they are just intended for an audience a level or two below the audienc...more
I remember this being one of my least favorite Redwall volume when I read it around age thirteen. It is still fairly good, but it uses the reliable Redwall formula without much spice added it. Think of it as watching a mediocre Bond picture after viewing Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, and your favorite Brosnan flick. If it was the first action movie you had ever seen, you might be blown away, but as it is, you've been there and done that (and better).

The Redwall books ought to be a perennial children's favorite. They are simple and formulaic, but it's a good formula! Jacques has a real gift for dialect, and culinary descriptions. I credit an early fascination with the Redwall stories for my modern-day feats of gastronomic delight. "Salad anna scone!"

Sampetra was a pretty interesting addition to the geography surrounding Mossflower, and the nautical atmosphere of this book was a lot of fun. This one felt less formulaic than some of the other books, and even had some "good" vermin about (or, at least, as good as Jacques will allow them to be).

Amazing story, makes you sad, happy, anxious, ect. All at the same time! It's a very emotional story, but very touching in parts. Definitely one of my favorites out of the series! Not just Redwall readers should read this, everyone should!

This is about how Holt Lutra, a clan of otters, is slain for six pearls, called the Tears of all Oceans. As Ublaz, the king of Sampetra, the tears are a must have. The tears are hidden around Redwall Abbey, and a wonderful chase ensues.

This book has a lot of fascinating riddles in it. That is kind of a trademark of a Redwall novel. It is great.
