This book is a book that i have really enjoyed reading throughout this time. This book is a real life story of a girl named Nancy. This book is a real life story of a girl named Nancy. The names and the places in the story changes due to the victims parents. She is a girl who thought that she had found love at the age of 14. She dates a 24 year old named Colin and they have a lot of fun and like every couple they spend a lot of time together with each other. All those moments made her think that this was the perfect guy and that they were meant for each other forever. Nancy actually thought that she found true love but she was wrong after all. What she didn't know was that he lied to her about his life the whole time and she didn't even figure that out. It was really frustrating for her afterwards. But meanwhile she thought that they were still good he has sex with her without a condom (rape). And guess what?! She gets infected with HIV and later on AIDS. He leaves her and now shes left with nothing from him but this virus that will kill her for the rest of her life. In this diary she lets out her feelings and just tells out all these unfortunate events that are happening to her while she is still alive. But eventually this virus had gotten the best of her and she died because of this guy that she thought she loved.

I think that this book is a really sad book. She pours out her feelings and tells her life story for others in this world to understand that this world is not trustworthy and true love cannot be found so easily. She didn't know that he was using her for sex and behind all his secrets within lies the fact that he has AIDS. She lives the rest of her remaining time in life with AIDS and waits till that day to come. I feel really bad for her because she didn't even know. She was young and in love and she didn't see what he really wanted from her and his desires from her. She dies for this guy that wasn't even worth it and he was a pedophile for sure. She wants to warn the world that the only person you could trust is yourself.

She even stopped talking to the gaggle aka her friends. Months later, police officers try to look for Collin. He is hard to find but he is very dangerous because he had recently raped another girl days later after her recent problem. Many people pitch in and try to do their best and find the rapist. Meanwhile Nancy soon starts to feel good and go back to her regular life. Everything is fine because she has erased the past and moved on to being the girl she once was .

Soon Nancy is able to live her regular life. But it will never be the same because of the HIV virus. She goes to her dads house for a while but then goes to her aunts house too. SHe enjoys it there and has fun while it lasts. She find a friends called Courage and Red Alert. They are both animals one is a cat while the other is a dog. Everything is fine until one day Red Alert dies in his sleep. R.I.P Red Alert. 3 weeks later Nancy died in her sleep. There will never be another Nancy but Nancy herself.

I conclusion, It Happened to Nancy is a book that teaches a life lesson. It shows that you should always be careful for all of your action because something little can change your life forever. I recommend this book to ANYONE that is willing to read about a life lesson and learn what can happen with certain things. (less)

This was my second time reading this book, and I really enjoyed it. It's about this girl, who thought she found true love, but then the guy actually lied to her about his life. This is the "diary" of Nancy, a teenager who was raped by a 24-year-old and got the HIV virus, which soon morphed into AIDS.
It's depressing (no duh) to see a 16-year-old suffer from rectal ulcers and stuff. I guess that's the reality of AIDS.

A story of a young girl who encounters hard situations in life and must go through many obstacles and overcome them. The novel begins at a concert where the protagonist Nancy watches a fight break out and begins to hyperventilate. Nancy's life revolves around Collin and she is under the impression that he truly cares and loves her. The author portrays Collin as sweet and perfect to add to the shock factor of what is to come later on in the novel. One day Nancy's parents are out so she has the whole house to herself. She decides to invite Collin to stay the night so that they could have dinner together but she also makes him promise to leave when the clock strikes midnight. She even states: “I made Collin promise that he would leave at the stroke of midnight. I knew our grandfather clock would not let him forget.”

As the night progresses Nancy begins to notice a change in Collin. Collin adds a weird tasting drink to their wine cooler and he begins to touch her a lot. Then the inevitable happens: “Collin dropped me down on my mother's soft flowered comforter and I fought back with all my might. Red neon thoughts flashed through my mind ... committing fornication on my mother's own bed.”

The author does a great job of describing the protagonist's feelings during the rape scene and makes the reader feel as though he or she is actually with Nancy. The story does not end there, the author adds a twist to the novel of which the narrator states: “His mouth keeps moving but I can't hear words anymore.” The novel has a great life lesson that is important for everyone but especially those who have gone through similar things such as Nancy. It portrays to teens how important it is to get help from an adult and to not feel so hopeless because many others experience it as well.

The fact that it is a true story based on the diary of a real girl adds to the overall plot of the book. The author does a good job with imagery and the novel is a real page turner. I really recommend reading this novel because it is very emotional and compelling. However if you are not into tearjerker novels I would not recommend it because this novel did make me cry.

One night when Nancy’s mom left town for a business trip she invited Collin over. They shared a few drinks and then he raped her in her mother‘s bed. Later on Nancy finds out that Collin was not an eighteen year old boy, in fact he was a twenty three year old man who had given her the HIV virus.
It took a few weeks for Nancy to realized she had been given the virus, but slowly her metabolism started to deteriorate and she had to be taken to the hospital. Nancy had to swallow her pride and tell her mother about the incident with Collin. Her mother was very upset with everything that had happened and that her daughter could eventually die from this one tragic mistake. Soon after Nancy found out about her condition she gave up on life, something deep in her heart told her she was not going to make it so she went into a deep depression. To help her daughter’s situation Nancy’s mother decides to send her to Arizona, where her life would be more relaxed and stable. When Nancy finally accepted the fact that she was going to die she wanted to spent the last few months of her life trying to find Collin, so that he could be arrested for raping her (I am not going to give away the ending because what happens to Collin is very interesting). Nancy also writes down her story and all of her thoughts in a small diary in hopes that one day it will get published so that other girl’s out there can read about it and hopefully stop themselves from going through what she went through.
This was an amazing book, It Happened To Nancy made me cry because it is actually a true story. While reading the book I could feel Nancy’s pain and I wish I could have been there to help her. Also, we can see how much she has grown as a person throughout the book. In the first few chapters she is all about going out and having fun with her friends, and by the end of the book she is very determined to enjoy the small things in life, like fresh air and painting.
What really broke my heart was reading about how Nancy had such a hard time telling her friends about her HIV virus, she was so scared that they were going to treat her differently now that she was dying. When she finally meets the perfect boy she cannot even kiss him because she is too scared that she will pass her virus onto him by possibly having an open sore on her lips. Eventually, she even dumps him in order protect him from falling in love with her. Overall, I would recommend that people read this book because it really did touch my heart. Throughout reading this book I realized that you cannot really trust everyone and that really sad things can happen to really good people. We need to be aware that one mistake can be enough to ruin our lives, forever. (less)

I don't know how or why but this is the third book this year with the something good happens, then something bad happens pattern. i think that even though many books have that pattern, they each end up differently and they each are unique. Due to an already weakened immune system, things rapidly progress to AIDS and she finds out that Collin was not the eighteen year old she believed him to be. He was twenty-four and everything he told her about himself was a lie including his name. This diary follows her struggles with her emotions, rape and her life with AIDS.

I was endeared by Nancy. I just wanted to wrap her up in my arms, rock her like a baby, and assure her that nothing was her fault and everything would be okay. I cannot imagine such a thing happening to anyone, and it was very difficult to keep the tears at bay while reading this novel. Throughout her horrible ordeal I loved how Nancy kept her faith. And with the love of family and friends, the albeit short life she led was a happily filled one. Through Nancy’s story we gain knowledge on the risks, dangers, and diseases out there that people often don’t think about. If this novel could help protect even one young teen from making the same decisions that Nancy made and put them in the know, then this novel has served a great purpose. Emotionally this is definitely a difficult novel to read. But the fact that Nancy persevered and kept on living her life while keeping her faith made me want to stand and shout out: “You go girl!” You will truly feel as if Nancy is talking to you, and once you get involved in her diary it will be difficult to put down.(less)
