Sometimes books just find me. It seems that the books that find me end up being the most enjoyable reads. My most recent read of a book like this is Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentime by Barbara Park. This one is a book that Sean picked out at the last BookCrossing meeting by pulling it off the Dublin Friends of the Library shelf.

The title and the cover illustration told me it would be a quick read but I had the feeling I wouldn't enjoy it. It just seemed too cute. I decid...more

This series is about kindergartner, Junie B. Jones. She calls her teacher Mrs. ("She has another name, too, but I just like Mrs."). She doesn't understand why her teacher is always rolling her eyes to the ceiling ("Because I looked and there was nothing up there!"). She likes to explain grown-up words ("Dumped is the grown up word for now I need to find another Ricardo."). She sometimes causes trouble ("But teacher, mom said if I get sent to the principal's off...more

One of the little girls who I brought to the zoo on Saturday had two Junie B. Jones books with her, and asked if I'd like to read one. I eagerly accepted, having heard good things about them and wanting to know what all the fuss was about.

This was a really cute book, I'll admit. I of course knew the ending well before the end, but that's probably because I'm 28 and not 7. Junie gets a fancy mushy valentine from a secret admirer and then sets out to solve the mystery of who sent it. ...more

I Knew that Junie Would not like something or be picky or do something wrong .There are plenty of surprises for Junie B. Jones on Valentine’s Day – or Valentime’s Day, as she likes to call it. First, her teacher tells her that she must give a valentine to every boy and girl in the class, even the “big, fat stinky heads.” Then Junie B.’s two “bestest” friends, Lucille and Grace, get into an argument about who will receive the most valentines from the boys. Lucille thinks she will because she’s th...more

yeah, i remember the days in elementary school on valentines day (or as Junie B. calls it valentimes day) when the whole class ran around the room passing out valentines and receiveng them. for me it was amazing and romantic because you finaly got to see who was crushing on you. but in junie B.'s case she wouldn't want to find out. every one in room nine passing valentines out then when Junie B. walks back to her desks she notices a specisl card that stood out from the rest. i mean how could it ...more

This was a very funny book and I finished reading the book this afternoon. It teaches children that Valentine's Day is a fun day and you don't need to buy expensive Valentine's day cards for your classmates. What's important is that you have fun passing out cards to your classmates and then you enjoying seeing how many valentine cards you have collected in your Valentine Day box. It also doesn't matter how many cards you have gotten from or classmates or even if you had gotten a card from a boy...more

I love Junie B. Jones books. I think they are hilarious and people can relate to them easily. I read them to my first graders right now around bus call time, and they LOVE IT. You don't even need to worry about classroom management because they are so into the book you don't hear a peep. I think the grammar sometimes worries me because I don't want the students speaking like Junie B. but really, thats how some first graders speak. I love her adventures because they're the same ones the students ...more

I don't usually put children's books of this low a reading level on my Goodreads list -- kind of seems like "cheating" -- but this one was too cute not to share! I wanted to booktalk Junie B. Jones books to my 1st graders, so I asked my 2nd graders to tell me which of the series is their favorite, so I could read it to get to know Junie B. They recommended this one, and it definitely is a cute, 20-minute, feel-good fun read! Now am going to have to go back and read the first one to ...more

Junie's kdgtn class will be celebrating Valentine's Day and they have been asked to bring in a card for everyone. Junie gets the biggest and nicest Valentine, but from her Secret Admirer. She finds out that her admirer is Mean Jim and that the reason he likes her is because she is spunky, but he doesn't want anyone to know that he likes her and that he spent a whole month's allowance on the card for her. She keeps his secret and the two of them are friends.

My girls and I have been reading Junie B Jones books at bedtime. I've enjoyed them a lot, and even laughted out loud at some parts. I think having a five year-old at home makes them funnier. That said, I've found myself having to take time with my kids to discuss why some language and behavior in the books is not appropriate. I think the books are better suited to older kids who can tell that they are meant to be funny and not realistic.

I love reading these books to my daughter...we both laugh hard and relate to them well. This one is darling with Junie B. doing her "wink, wink" to the boys. I love that the Valentine ends up being from Jim and now Jim and Junie B. have a secret all of their own...but still end up "hating" each other so their friends won't suspect that they "like" each other. So cute, and so like elementary age children. This is FUN reading!

This was so fun to read to my five-year old. His teachers reads them to his class, but I'd never read any myself. I got a kick out of reading her incorrect grammar and pronunciation and watching the teachers roll their eyes at her and her crazy questions. It was very representative of the kindergarten age group and loads of fun.

Just read this to my 3rd graders. We finished it in just a few days. They enjoyed it and laughed a lot. It was a little babyish for them. I love how the writing sounds like a kindergartner would talk. Cute. Funny. Quick easy read. Definitely some humor thrown in for mom, dad, or teacher that sailed over my 3rd graders heads.

Read this one to first graders over 3 library visits - one visit per week. Most of the students remembered where we were in the book but really chapter books don't work well with our 6-day specials rotation. Junie B. gets a fancy Valentine and asks the boys in her class who gave it to her.

This was hilarious! I read it aloud to the kids because Miss Jera picked it out insisting that she could too read. The girl in the book and the girl who picked out the book have way too much in common. I have no idea where she gets it from because I was Nothing like that

This book is simply one of the funniest that I have EVER read. It gave me long fits of laughter on a number of occasions. I'm also impressed with the depth that Barbara Park is able to infuse into such short stories as the Junie B. Jones series. Very nicely done.

Junie B. Jones The Mushy Gushy Valentine was okay, but I didn't really understand it. I didn't really understand the parts about Jim. Some of the words were funny because she spells how she says them which is wrong, like "valentime" instead of "valentine".
Lisa
When Junie B. Jones receives a mushy gushy "valentime" on Valentine's Day, she tries to find out who her secret admirer is.

I really enjoyed this book and I think most young girls and maybe young boys will enjoy it too. I really like the book because it reminds me of what Valentines Day was like when I was in elementary school.

I just love this book i think that the message that the author is trying to tell me is that you dont always know a person by how they act or how they treat you. Sometimes it is because they are trying to hide something from you.

Surprise, surprise...Junie B has a secret admirer! And if you're a Junie B fan, I'll bet you can guess his identity. Hint: he likes her because she "makes things 'sparky'". (Great description of her, isn't it?)
Erin
It's Valentine's day (or Valentime's Day according to Junie B.) in room nine, and Junie has a secret admirer! Figuring out the secret admirer in question was really fun, and in the end the book is very sweet!

Gabriela- In this book Junie B Jones has a lot of fun. I really enjoyed reading this book. I especially liked the part when Junie got the big card.I think that when she had a boy friend was was also very interesting.

Junie B. Jones is a wonderful children's book series. IN the Mushy Gushy Valentine, Junie is trying to find out who her Valentine secret admirer is. Young children would love this book, it is easy to read.
