This review is for A Gathering of Gargoyles and The Pearl of the Soul of the World…
Some might think that the Darkangel Trilogy is in the paranormal genre because of the vampires, but it isn’t. It is mostly fantasy and even a little sci-fi. Pierce creates worlds, new species, and terminology.
The cover quote describes the books as Heart-warming and Heart-breaking and it truly is. Aeriel is a good heroine who follows the path of self discovery. She learns that...more

I sort of figured that this was probably one of those series where the first book is really the only story and after that the narrative just kind of limps along so you get the satisfaction of knowing about the rest of the main character's lives. It's not though. You can actually tell that this is the next chapter in the story. There is more to know and experience and there are still questions that you didn't even know you had about the first story.

I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't rate each book of this trilogy separately. I happened upon the second book first, and really enjoyed it--the fantasy was really original, and as with most of the fantasy books I read as a young teenager, the main character was a young woman on a journey. Also, as with many fantasy books that really enthralled me when I was younger, I don't remember the main point of the plot--only specific moments and images, and vague ideas about the main character feeling...more

I found this book to be less interesting and enjoyable than the first and third of the trilogy, but still good. I was somewhat irked by how predictable several of the supposed "twists" were. Parts of the story lagged a bit too, and the book didn't have the same fairy tale feel as the first book. Certain parts were really neat though, like the dust shrimp and it's metamorphosis later in the story.

I'd already quite enjoyed the first volume of this series and I liked the second even more. It's a beautiful story, with a wonderful main character with whom a person can identify, someone we feel for and go through the story wanting her to succeed, hurting when she does, smiling when she feels contentment or finds some respite from the troubles of her task.

This book doesn't have the charm of Darkangel. It feels more forced and less like a fairytale. The references to other works are enjoyable but constructed. It is a satisfying read, but lacks the mastery that set the first book apart and I would recommend in conjunction with that and not alone.

the second book in the dark angel trilogy. Ariel continues on her quest to free irrylath from the white witch and in the process discovers her true identity. this one is definitely my favorite of the trilogy, and it welcomes a vast range of characters into the mix.

Actually reading this one for the second time because I needed a good heroine adventure book. The series can easily become comfort books, nothing deep but interesting and colorful enough to be curious what kind of interesting character she'll meet next.

I totally forgot about these books! I must have checked them all out from the library at least ten times each when I was in junior high. I should re-read them to make sure they are as good as I remember, but I loved them when I was a kid!

I loved this book. This is the best one out of the Dark Angel Trilogy. The whimsy, and descriptive style of the author really made me invision what was going on in the story.

I read this trilogy as an adolescent and just loved it. Reread them as an adult, and loved them even more. An epic story for young women of development and finding oneself.

The scenes between Aeriel and Irrylath broke my heart! By the end I was so intrigued that I couldn't wait to read the next one!

Slightly predictable considering the title, but the writing level did not decreased in skill and enjoyability to read.

The plot thickens! Seeming holes are filled and Aeriel's past is revealed.
