The heroine Holly is trying to make a new life for herself away from the limelight of her previous society life, and has recently got a job as a journalist. Her first interview is with Brett, the hero, a well known yet very private Cattle Station owner. Brett hates publicity but agrees to an interview with Holly, sensing that she is different from many other women, he is also very attracted to her. Holly is not used to male attention and is flustered around Brett, but when they are forced into m ...more
Funny, heart-warming romance set in Australia.

Brett & Holly meet under circumstances less than ideal - they are both coerced into attending an A-list function for the sake of keeping relatives happy. Sparks fly, and for Holly, not in a totally good way. When she finds out the guy she dressed down is the guy who could take her career further, she is taken aback. However, Brett is impressed and agrees to be interviewed, but with conditions.

The setting is well-described, and quite vivid. A good
The Socialite and The Cattle King is the 67th romance by Lindsay Armstrong. Holly Harding (socialite turned journalist) needs a big scoop to cement her career. Infamous cattle king, Brett Wyndham would do nicely. But when they meet at a pair of A-list functions, the sparks fly: she’s not sure she likes his attitude. He likes the look of her, however, and grants an interview, as long as she is prepared to accompany him to his cattle-station in the gulf country. Somehow, they manage to control the ...more
This was a good story about socialite, Holly, who is thankfully not a vapid princess and Brett, a reclusive millionaire unimpressed by Holly or her background. Even with Brett and Holly being standoffish towards each other, they were never unlikable pricks and I appreciate that.

What I really enjoyed was the setting. The passion for the Australian outback well written and I found myself appreciating the desolate beauty portrayed through the character's eyes. Lovely romance.

Oh, this was such a breath of fresh air after the last Mills and Boon novel I read that I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book kind of harked back to the stories I read as a teenager when there was chemistry, great characters and beautiful scenery all rolled into one. Both Holly and Brett were sympathetic and well-developed characters and the rapport between them when they first met provided a great opening scene.
Anyway, this was a great one to read on a lazy Sunday morning and I'd recommend it. 4 s
Great background setting of the Outback described well as the setting for the character's conflicts to develop in. Nice plot. Enjoyable read.
