If you like Hungary Girl, this may be worth checking out. Otherwise, you'll get better guidance from the 'Eat This, Not That' series or other nutrition books. Basically, Lillien dishes on her preferred brands; details how to stock your cart; and includes some of her basic recipes. My main critique is that most of this is 'fake food' - for example, she champions Laughing Cow cheese wedges, which are basically laden with chemicals. She's also a huge fan of artificial sweeteners, which I'm not wild...more

I was super excited to find this book in the package that was sent to me. I have been receiving the Hungry Girl newsletter emails for awhile now and to finally have one of her books, is amazing! She is a really fun character and she gives great advice as well as great tips and swaps for the food that is good for you and the food that you like.

There is so much information in this book that no one should make a mistake of paying too much for anything in the grocery store. The author takes you down each isle and lets you know which items are great money savers and which ones are not. Chapters include dairy, cereal, meat and poultry, meat subsititues, produce, canned goods, packaged snacks, bread, frozen items, beverages and many more. The physical size of this book allows readers to conveniently take it along to the store when shopping.

This book is pretty useful for the calorie-conscious shopper. I've made some recipes from one of the Hungry Girl cookbooks before, so I trust her to give realistic and tasty recommendations for what to buy. She does a few useful things: tells you where in the store some of the things are, gives quick recipe type suggestions, gives lists in the back of the recommended items, and tells things to stay away from.

This book was just OK. There was a lot of information that I already knew about reading labels and making healthier choices. It's cool that it's small enough to throw in your bag and refer to while shopping, but if you read any other books like "Eat This, Not That," you'll already know a lot of the information in this book.

Information is poorly laid out. Tiny book is difficult to prop open to read with tight binding. Eat This Not That books are much more useful.

I'm sure it's a great book, but I quit after 10 pages of the difference between low-fat and fat-free cheeses since I'm just going to eat less of the full-fat cheese anyway.

A really neat guide to swapping out high calorie foods for lower calorie ones.
