Volume 11 of xxxHolic by CLAMP was the point where I realized I could no longer ignore Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, the crossover manga series. So much of Watanuki's life depends on decisions made by Syaoran, Sakura and the others. Their actions are even starting to affect Yuko and her shop.

Things are also fundamentally changed with Dômeki and Himawari. Watanuki has always suspected they are opposing forces in his life but he had their effects on him reversed.

Volume 11 has two dominant themes:

Today's post is on XXXHolic volume 11 by CLAMP. It is the tenth in the series, so you need to have read the first ten to understand the story. It is 178 pages long and is published by DEL REY. The cover has Yuko on it looking very pretty and wrapping around to Watanuki on the back. The intended reader is someone who likes Japanese mythology, ghost stories, and very pretty pictures. The story is told from Watanuki's perspective. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

xxxHOLiC is a very charming series, and all of this series's better features were apparent in this manga. While I don't think it's really a standout within the series, it's only by this series's standards. If there is one complaint I have (and it's really not specific to this volume, but the series in general), the veiled warnings from Yuuko that something is coming get a little annoying. I think this is a stylistic thing by CLAMP (Chobits had the same problem, if I recall correctly), but the ve ...more

If I could raid Yuko-san's closet, I'd be the happiest girl alive! LOL!! I loved everything single outfit she wore in this volume! Amazing!!

I also liked the color spread for the first couple of pages. It was nice to see it in color for once.

Oddly enough, I don't feel a sense of dread or excitement for the "big thing that is coming." I was actually getting a little DBZ feeling knowing that there is 8 more volumes left... I really hope it doesn't take 8 volumes for this big thing to happen. That'l

Reread 2011. Mostly, this volume is about Watanuki giving people presents and Yûko makes vague ominous comments. Watanuki gives Himawari a bird, the bird a name (Tampopo), the jealous pipe fox a name (Mugetsu), and various people White Day presents or other return presents: the fox cub, Himawari, Dômeki. Gloves and mittens. He knitted them himself. (Of course he did.) Yûko gives Dômeki the egg, and instructions on using it we don't hear. Watanuki begins to mix up reality and dreams.

The mysteries around Watanuki deepen and only Yuko-san and the other residents of her shop know what's going on. We learn that Watanuki and Domeki are now connected and not just through their eye but through blood too. And the "last moment" is getting closer.

Though when you don't buy and read the Tsubasa Chronicle, more and more parts of this manga make little sense. I think I will have to get my hands on Tsubasa then, even though I didn't plan to read that series since I didn't like the manga

This is the point where I went, "okay either I'm just used to CLAMP or the story has finally sunk into something darker and more interesting."

I love Watanuki and a lot of other CLAMP main characters, but I'm not always super endeared to the "humor" of Yelling Dork Ignores His Kinda Sorta Pretty Gay Feelings. I think volume 10 and onward we start to see more of a serious Watanuki (and Rou is nothing but serious Watanuki and also all of my crying.)
The worlds between this story and the story-line in Tsubasa are beginning to intermingle. Actions being taken by the four travelers are affecting the main characters in this story, and we are being told that something big is coming.

The artwork in this volume is absolutely beautiful. Character development has taken a slight turn from previous volumes, as the most recent events have had an effect on Watanuki, Domeki, and Himawari and each of them have altered their ways of interacting.

It's about ghosts. And also THE LOVE OF AN AGE. <3

Seriously though.....
Forget Himawari-chan, it's all about Domeki.

I was delighted to see Kohane-chan return, and interested to see the crossover with Watanuki and Sakura. I can't wait for Watanuki to finally admit he and Domeki are close friends (they still play at the 'idiot' thing). And for the first time I feel like Yuko is humanized, by being asked "who grants your wishes?".

From here on out, shit's about to get real.... And I've reached the end of my physical volumes in a row (I also have 13, but that's skipping one), so online reading shall commence soon...

Not as strong as some of the previous volumes, but still good. This seemed to be one of those "intermission" type entries, where not all that much happens but it leads up to something in the next volume.

I love Watanuki's growth and his belief in hitsuzen. I really like his meetings with Kohane. And I never thought I would miss Maru and Moro so much. I'm scared for what will happen if they can't hold the shop together.

This series's supernatural and I love how it crosses with Tsubasa (another manga I LOVE)! I can't wait to see what happens to the two stories and how they will effect each other!
