It looks like James Patterson has fobbed this series off on a "co-author." Disappointing.
The plot has almost exactly the same structure as "1st to Die," in the style of "We definitely have the killer! The case is airtight! Except... we don't have the killer and the case is full of holes."
Lt. Lindsay Boxer also suffers not one but TWO acute attacks of Lois Lane Syndrome and charges into dangerous situations with the sort of recklessness on...more

Chapter 1
I drove up to the library in my black Miata. Walking in, I thought, "Hell, I deserve a book, I've had a rough couple of days." I searched the shelves looking for books on my list...nothing. I sighed. Oh but what did I see? A James Patterson, I couldn't wait to tell the girls. I grabbed it and went to check out. The clerk told me I owed a fine; I exhaled. I must have gotten distracted from returning books before - when I was on the job of my lifetime that catapulted me int...more

Since these have been on the bestseller's lists recently, I thought I'd give them a read. Apparently James Patterson decided to jump on the recent women's mystery series craze. The books, thusfar, are 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree, 4th of July, and 5th Horseman.
Despite the uncreative title for the series (Women's Murder Club? Come on!) the books work rather well. We're not talking the depth or detail and complexity of Sherlock Holmes here, but they're an entertaining if somewhat g...more

This is only my 2nd book by Patterson, but I am now a huge fan. I usually don't LOL when reading books. It takes a lot for me to get to that point, but I did towards the end. Not to mention, I just couldn't put it down. I think Patterson knows what he is doing by having such short chapters. It makes it so much easier to continue reading the book.

Has James Patterson decided to let high school Writing 101 students do his work for him? This was the most poorly written book of his I've ever come across. Something you'd expect from maybe a sophomore trying his hand at a novel. (ETA: I'm willing to admit that perhaps it was the narrator rather than the writing that made this so bad.)
The story was good, not as good as most of Patterson's stuff I've read, but good enough. Lindsey and the girls connect the killing of four seemingly...more

2ND CHANCE opens with Lindsay, now a Lieutenant, on sabbatical attempting to heal the wounds inflicted upon her, mentally and physically, in 1ST. Although unsure of the timing of her return, it becomes etched in stone when a young girl is gunned downed in front of a church by a sadistic sniper.
During her investigation, it quickly becomes apparent that this attack wasn't random rather, the young girl was a specific target. Further investigation leads Lindsay to a symbol, ultimately d...more

The sensational killings that have rocked San Francisco appear to be unrelated except in their brutality. But detective Lindsay Boxer senses there's some thread connecting them all. She calls her friends in the Women's Murder Club together to see if they can discover what it is. Surely some clue has been over-looked by their bosses and male colleagues.

hmmmmm...So this book seemed remarkably similar to the first one, but a lot sadder. To be fair, I read these books back to back, so it could be that. But I also feel like a good book is a good book and should be awesome ANY time you read it.
I didn't feel like I got to know the characters any better in this book, but I really like all of them. Except Cindy, the reporter, sometimes I find her overly flawed. Like he is setting her up to turn on the women at some point...

"2nd Chance reconvenes the Women's Murder Club, four friends (a detective, a reporter, an assistant district attorney, and a medical examiner) who used their networking skills, feminine intuition, and professional wiles to solve a baffling series of murders in 1st to Die. This time, the murders of two African Americans, a little girl and an old woman, bear all the signs of a serial killer for Lindsay Boxer, newly promoted to lieutenant of San Francisco's homicide squad. Not bad over all. I admit the plot did surprise me (like all good mystery/suspence books) so that made it worth it.
You get to learn a lot more about the main character in this book, and her supporting characters which is something I felt was a little lacking in the first book (but at the same time, it was the first book and it had other things to be busy with like setting the scene and laying a foundation).
It has this feeling about it, maybe because i know how many there ...more

I read as many James Patterson books as I can find, and this book lived up to all my expectations, as usual. I found it very easy to get through, but with all the suspense and mystery that this author is known for.

2nd book in the "women's murder club" series. Enjoyed it!

I went through a bit of a James Patterson kick for a while back in the day so please excuse the sheer amount of his books that I've read.
I think anyone who has read his books will agree they are not difficult or challenging BUT they are entertaining and full of suspense and keep you turning pages. I've enjoyed every one of his books that I've read! Mostly on vacation or in between reading some of...more

I'm such a fan of this series. I love the characters and the club...I loved the TV series when it was on too. Great book and I am looking forward to the next 5 in this series.

After the success she had in her last case, Lindsay Boxer is promoted to Lieutenant within the San Francisco Police Department and thrown into a new investigation as well. This time around, a shooter is targetting black policemen and their relatives in what seems like a case of revenge. Boxer must now pull out all stops with the Women's Murder Club and solve the crime as the city is breathing down her neck to get it solved because it seems to them like the crimes are racially motivated. Yet anot...more

I don't even feel bad about liking this series. I didn't start reading WMC series until they cancelled the show, which is what hooked me. I know its wrong, and I could get kicked out of book clubs for admitting this, but the characters will always be the actresses cast in the show, and I like it that way. Yes, Jill, that means you are now an unmarried blonde, deal with it. I'm enjoying the book very much, classic James Patterson. The problem is I read it at night before bed, but inevitably I get...more

The second book in the Woman's Murder Club Series. I enjoyed this book more then 1st To Die. 2nd Chance was so fast paced and the plot was exciting. I started it in the morning and I finished by 7pm. This book went into the woman's personal lives a little more. Cindy finds love...but Jill has sad times. Lindsay's father shows up - I hope he shows up more in the future

It was another quick read from the master of suspense. There's nothing deep here just a good story to keep you entertained on a cold winter night.

This is the 2nd book of the Women's Murder Club. The four friends have to track down a serial killer whose killings do not seem to be related.
