As a pre- P.S. I didn't give this book a rating. 'Nuff said.
After reading:
I hate this book. I hate it with such a passion that I want to burn it, take some of its DNA, clone it, then burn all of the clones to use a kindling for the rest of my existence, and then pass it to my children who can pass in onto theirs so they can also use it to fuel their fires to the end of their days.

Also appears on The YA Kitten. I received an ARC of this through Amazon Vine.
After an earthquake kills her mother, Katelyn McBride is sent to live with her grandfather Ed all the way out in Wolf Springs, Arkansas. The transition from LA to small-town America is a rough one, but other matters come to occupy her time. Two girls die from wolf attacks, there's a program just outside town to help people "release their inner wolves," and her new friend Cordelia is hiding something about her family. Th...more

If I would rate Unleashed on the story itself it would have gotten more praise, but I can't do that now can I? I had my share of problems with the characters and their actions that inadvertently caused me to get a bit of a mixed feeling about the book as a whole.
It all starts with Katelyn. Katelyn's mom has just died and, with her dad not in the picture, she is forced to move to Wolf Springs: A middle of nowhere town with no cell phone service or internet connection (can you believe?). She soon...more

little hesitant cause they compare it to Fallen (ugh), but I'll save judgement till it comes out....still, Fallen?

Looks like my early judgement hit the nail on the head. Now do I torment myself by reading this knowing I will prob detest it or do I take the plunge and suffer along with my brave GR friends who have suffered through this book before me? Hmmmm... Gonna have to ponder that one for a while ...

Every town has its secrets. In wolf springs they're just a little darker.
What an amazing first book to a compelling new series! Ahhhhhhhh! I want more, more, more, MORE!
Katelyn McBride is uprooted from her California world when her mother's life is tragically taken by an earthquake. Relocating to Wolf Springs Arkansas, to live with a Grandfather she barely knows, out in the middle of "bango land" forest, Kat's ambitions, dreams, and future are completely turned upside down.

Overall I liked this story enough to complete it and I'll probably stick around for the next book in the series. I'm curious to see where this one goes because it takes a few turns I didn't expect which is always nice.
What I'd like to see more of in the next book is stronger characters. I thought Kat was fine, on par with her personality and dialogue but I felt Cordelia was underwhelming and uninteresting. Trick was okay, I'd like to see more from him, Justin was intriguing and I'm definitely t...more

Ok. I loved this book. I finished reading it a couple of days ago, and find myself thinking, "I can't wait to get home and read more of UNLEASHED." Then I remember I'm done with it, and I get sad. It's been quite a while since I've read a werewolf book, and I just think that I was really in the mood for this, and it didn't disappoint me at all.
I recently read Nancy and Debbie's other series, Crusade, and loved those books as well, but Unleashed has a very different feel to it than the Crusade se...more

I really, really liked this book! I got my hands on an ARC through work and decided to give it a try. I was impressed with how much I enjoyed it, (despite the typos). :P
Katelyn is a 16-year-old girl living in SoCal, enjoying her life as a dancer/gymnast, when her mother dies in a house fire. Suddenly orphaned (her father died years earlier), she is sent to live with her paternal grandfather in the small town of Wolf Springs, AR. There she meets not one, but two very attractive guys her age that...more

this was a good read but there were just loads of things that annoyed me about this book!
this is not really a spoiler alert so dont worry:
1 at the start all katelyn goes on about is gymnastics then once she moves its like its completely forgotten about!!
2 i did not understand what was going on with justin! i dont think the author explained it well and it was even more confusing for me cause i loved trick!! so i didnt understand what she saw in justin!!

How fucking disappointing.
This book was so overwritten. While it's nice to picture the surroundings, the book was so bogged down with details that I just really struggled to get through it. Every little thing was described to the T, and every description was really dragged out like the howling wind or the clicking claws. And there was one detail that just bugged me. Unleashed was my first book by this author duo Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie, I know right? Can you believe it! And after reading it I can honestly say I didn’t love it but I did enjoy it.
Katelyn McBride lost her dad at a young age so she doesn’t expect to lose her mother years later, leaving her with no choice but to move to the middle of nowhere to live with her grandfather. From the moment I first heard about it, I really wasn’t expecting Unleashed to be anything more than the average paranormal romance that is ever so popular in young adult books these days. And to be honest, that’s sort of what it is. However, Unleashed is actually really good and even if it’s not the most original concept, I’d still recommend it.

A darkly delicious supernatural tale, which will delight fans of Lauren Kate or Twilight.
Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie have come together to produce something quite magical, which took me to another world filled with sinister secrets and hypnotic encounters. As a fan of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight saga (team Jacob) and Werewolves, this exciting tale was intensely gripping and a compelling read. Unleashed is the first installment within the ‘Wolf Springs Chronicles’ that surrounds a school known...more

So if there's a book in the Young Adult section of a bookstore and it's got Wolves in it... 95% of the time I will buy it. Without doing any research on it. That's why I like Amazon. There's always at least one review on Amazon that's off-putting and you end up saving money. And there's also the fact that Amazon is cheaper.

This book had me going for a good two or three hours but soon fell off the mark. It's new, I'll give it that, but the plot seemed to fall off a cliff half-way through.
It's not your typical magic werewolf love story and that's what kept me interested until the author seemed to run out of ideas and toss the plot in a shredder.
BUT. I absolutely adored the main heroin in this little story. She came off strong but still had the normal teenage insecurities that I feel a lot of books tend to leave ou...more

Oh this book couldn't get worse. Almost all the way through disc two and after reading all the no star and one star reviews I don't believe it can be redeemed and I'm wasting my time.
Sometimes I can blame the narrator, but in this case I can't really. She was fair enough, maybe even good if the story hadn't of sucked so much. It was really painful to sit through. It was a total rip off of the bone structure of twilight, and not even a good rip off. But a painfully slow rip off. There was also a...more

Book One of YA paranormal romance/adventure series, the Wolf Springs Chronicles
Sixteen-year-old Katelyn McBride is used to city life in sunny California, and it is a second devastating blow on top of being tragically orphaned when she is forced to relocate to her grandfather's rustic home in the Ozark hills of Arkansas. WTH... when does the next book come out? :/ whaaaaaaat I don't even have an inkling of what will happen next :3
anyway, I've got to admit there was a little too much crying than i would have liked but her mother died so I guess it's fair. Kat's an okay character, I didn't feel she developed aLOT but she does turn from being 'ergg ohmigawd I wanna go back home' to 'ahh well its life' (kind of).

I know there are a lot of controversial reviews about this book, and I was honestly expecting it to be nothing short of, well...horrible. I was pleasantly surprised to find Unleashed to be quite an enjoyable read-a bit shallow and frankly stupid and stereotypical at times, but the end result had me satisfied and wanting more. The characters, mainly Katelyn and Cordelia, were often a tad wishy-washy. However, they were easy to understand and sympathize with. The only real problem I had with a cha...more

I enjoyed this book. Maybe it is because I really like the authors and the work on the crusade series. I picked up this book purely because it was written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. The story plot was not anything unique. That is the major downfall. I enjoyed the writing style. The book is not bad, yet it is not great. I wish that Holder would have written it from different perspectives like she did in the Crusade series. I really wish that the plot will be totally unique in the next boo...more

For the first chapter or two, I thought this was going to be one of those vampire versus werewolves kind of books. There was this guy at the beginning who had to be invited into the house (turns out he's not a vampire but I thought he was) and guess what his name was. It was Vladimir. The most common guy vampire name ever. This book ended up being just about werewolves, but there was this thing at the beginning about how her father was murdered and...more

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book before I started reading it because I am not a huge fan of werewolves.
I have to say though that I am glad that I gave it a chance! I notice that I tend to love books that I was iffy about in the beginning.
This book had everything for me. Great characters, great plot, great setting, mystery, romance, thriller.
The writing was great and I couldn't tell when the authors were switching off.

I am conflicted when it comes to Unleashed. I am a huge fan of the Wicked series by these two authors. It is no secret that I like heroines who aren't perfect and Katelyn McBride is most definitely not perfect. She is a big city LA girl who fully expects the people in Arkansas to be wearing cut off jeans and overalls chewing on hay and there are various references to banjo (which I found funny). She is a city girl snob and I'm fine with it. Kat is a young woman whose life has changed drastically...more

If the authors’ names sound familiar, they should. This is the team that brought the YA world the very popular Wicked series, and now they have decided to turn their sights on another paranormal entity. Take a guess at which one. J

Stay out of the woods at night and don't go out into the dark alone. Those were the rules so often repeated through out the entire novel and as you read through it you understand why.
One girl after the next is mauled to pieces out in those woods with no clue other then some mysterious animal that they cannot seem to capture is the culprit. Just a mess of flesh.
