I'll confess that I only start reading this book because I wanted to read the second in the series and I just can’t start reading a series in the middle. I've got always to start from the first.
And in this moment I can honestly say: Thank God for that!

This is a damn good book. It’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s romantic and in some moments (okay, plenty of moments), it’s really steamy.

Tate is in Florida visiting her mother while on vacation. While there she meets James, the son of a neighbor. He's the perfect picture of a "bad boy" if she ever saw one with devastatingly good looks and prominent tattoos, she knows his type. At least she thinks she does. He's exactly the type her sister goes for and those doomed romances never end well. So when James shows an obvious interest in Tate, she is initially hesitant. She doesn't have time for drama and she needs to guard her fragile heart. She's already nursing wounds. She just lost her father and brother in a tragic accident a year ago. Add to that, she is trying to keep the family restaurant afloat. However, her close proximity to James and instant chemistry is wearing her down. She's on vacation so she decides, for the time being, she'll give into her desire and have a sex-only, no-strings attached relationship. Here's Tate's initial thoughts on James:
"This man belonged on the front cover of a firefighters' calendar, for God's sake, not in the common area of the senior community skyrocketing everybody's blood pressure to the moon. He should come with a warning from the health department: Handle with extreme caution and use at your own peril. Looking will cause palpitations, dizziness, and hyperventilation. She knew, for she was having all of those and then some."

Let me tell you, I was hyperventilating right along with Tate!

James for his part will take anything she's willing to give but as he spends more time with Tate, he finds he's getting more, and more attached to her. Suddenly, this no-strings attached business is not going to cut it for James. So when Tate returns home, James, who lives close by, follows, not willing to let her go. He knows she's afraid of getting hurt, whether she'll admit it or not, but he's determined to gain her trust and help her get her life and restaurant back on track.

I absolutely and completely fell for James! He was such a sweetheart. He was so patient and loving with Tate, determined to protect her and help her get past her issues. I felt bad for Tate and all she went through, so her constant reluctance to admit her true feelings for James was bearable. Plus, she would only try to push him away with her words, for like two seconds, and then with her actions, pull him close. This is such a sweet romance with a lot of humorous scenes, as well. The beginning with these two always getting caught by the senior citizens was pretty hilarious.

This story has plenty of spice to it. I'd say on a spice scale of 1-10, it would rate about a 9 or 10!! Pretty dang HOT!! This is definitely an adult read!

As a bonus I guess we get a story on Cole, James' brother, next: Heavy Issues. I just talked to the author and she said Heavy Issues will be available on: Loose Id. www.loose-id.com on May 29th and a few weeks after on Amazon.(less)

James, however, can’t stay away from Tate, his pirate princess, and he seeks her out and their affair continues in the city.

James was a wonderful hero – a tall, bronzed and tattooed Adonis. He’s talks dirty to Tate, really turns her on, is an incredibly attentive lover and is strong and dependable. He’s had a series of casual affairs since his marriage broke down and isn’t looking for anything serious but he finds he feels very differently about Tate and can’t get her out of his mind and can’t resist her.

Tate – now, this is where my rating falls down for this book. This story is an amazingly hot and sexy romance with a little bit of suspense going down too but Tate is such a seriously judgemental and prejudiced individual, I felt I had to drop my rating. She constantly refers to James as ‘your kind’ just because he has a few tatts – she judges him and finds him wanting based purely on the fact that he’s got ink. This is, of course, why the book is called More Than Meets The Ink as James is nothing like the pre-conceived ideas that Tate has erroneously conjured up and I found her attitude seriously distasteful. She’s a difficult heroine to like. In her defence, she’s had a tough year, is grief-stricken, over-worked, stressed out and has a crazy-ass stalker to boot but, despite all this, calling a man you’re having an intense physical relationship with ‘your kind’ just left a foul taste in my mouth. I didn’t think she really deserved James.

This was my only problem with the book – everything else was a delight to read. I enjoyed all other aspects of the story and Elle Aycart knows how to write really hot and exciting sex scenes and I'm definitely carryong on.

I stopped reading at 52%. I disliked the h so much that it overshadowed the entire story. Loved James though...despite the fact that he liked the h. And I couldn't figure out "why" James even liked Tate. The sexual chemistry? The reverse psych cliche that she thinks he's scum? Great character totally wasted. Best. Dirty. Talker. Ever! Thank you to my girls for this recommendation. I absolutely LOVED James. Tate was sweet and while I understood her reservations when it came to starting a relationship with James... it got old. I loved this book... the story line was fantastic, the chemistry was hot, and the love was beautiful. I can't wait to read Heavy Issues!

Hum there are so many good reviews about this book that I had to give it a shot.

And let’s face it, an alpha male, bad boy, don’t do the girlfriend thing, don’t want to get attached, but find a girl that makes him lose him mind… that’s just my thing and it kind of remembered me of “beautiful disaster” a bit, with all the bad boy falling in love with the girl but she doesn’t make it easy on him, kind of thing.

What I loved about this book is that the author knew exactly how to balance the steamy hot moments with the romance when they get to know each other and start to fall in love. You see all this happening and you enjoy every step of the way. Aycart developed it perfectly. I was hooked.

This book was mostly about two people trying to handle the hard things in life.
But it’s not perfect.

Honestly, the heroine, Tate (26) is kind of a bitch(sorry about that, but she really is). I had a hard time with her, she got on my nerves almost the whole book. Why? She’s the “run-before-you-get-too-attached” kind of girl. She’s also too prejudice. The kind of a girl who looks at you and judge you by appearances and stuck with it till the end, she doesn’t allow herself to possibly change her mind. So see, she met this guy (James) who is smoking hot, and makes her feel alive like nobody else ever did. But oh no! for Tate he has a horrible flaw  he has three tattoos and that means he’s a bad boy therefore a shit kind of man. See what I just meant? She doesn’t make sense. Just because he has tattoos he’s not good enough! Uhg! As if everybody who has tats are lowlifes. She’s like that because of her sister, she has a thing for bad boys and always got herself hurt in the end. So for Tate it means that everybody is like her sister’s boyfriends.

“The charming bad boy. You see, there are two types of bad boys: the brooding ones and the charmers. The antiestablishment, angry-with-the-world, brooding, temperamental type. Silent, arrogant, moody. And then there are the charming, funny ones with their lighthearted humor and fast wit. That’s a facade; they’re just as intense, they’re just undercover, full-conceal mode 24-7. My sis gravitates toward the brooding, silent type. She hooked up with one charmer though. Total devastation. They’re just as dangerous, if not worse. You’re one of those. Both types only good for one thing.”

However, James (34) is not like that at all and he makes himself clear about that, but she doesn’t believe it. But the thing is they feel a strong connection, an undeniable attraction. They can’t keep their hands away from each other. They were also the best sex of each other’s life. But Tate knows he’s dangerous, that he might break her heart if she let her defenses down, so she can allow herself to get involved with him, this must be just about sex. So she she build a wall between them. But that doesn’t works for James, he wants so much more, but he has to take baby’s steps so to not scary her. She’s also having a tough time in her life, she just lost her dad and brother in a car accident. Wow and James is patient, Christ that guy is great. Actually erase that, he’s not great, he’s perfect and when I mean perfect it’s really perfect. I couldn’t find one single flaw in that guy, that’s actually a bit awkward. Nobody is that perfect. But that’s fiction so just go with it. But see he’s breathtaking, caring, sweet, funny, protective, attentive,naughty, has attitude, helps her with her business and has his own business, is possessive and domineering but not so much that she can’t be herself and make her own things… he just makes everything for her and makes her feel the most special woman, and a fucking machine…. So tell me if that’s not perfection? It’s for me. But he has to make Tate see that, boy that girl knows how to be stubborn. But Tate’s moods were the only bumps in this romantic road, and despite all this crap she wasn’t so bad all the time. She had her good moments too.

Overall, it was an interesting, exciting, dramatic and very steamy romance. I was right there with them, and I couldn’t put it down. And I’m dying to read Cole’s book, I loved James brothers. Their books are going to be fun.

So all in all this book needs some work. How it was published with all of the punctuation errors is beyond me...but for some reason I found myself compelled to finish, and in the end I am glad I did.

James is the perfect combination of Alpha and sweet. He gave some seriously good sex and foreplay that was out of this world! Just a great guy. Kind to old ladies AND ate their pie. What? You think these guys grow on trees? They don't sister! Oh! And he can dance! 6'4", muscular, gorgeous, owns his own business, smart, sweet, kind. But oh no, tattoos. Stay away sister!

Tate just kept not only pushing him away, but putting him down to push him away. I know she was hurting from deaths in her immediate family and a cyber stalker, but COME ON! A guy treats you so well, with kindness and love. He wants more than anything to be with you and be there for you? I would think the loss in your life would make you treasure that.

I thought somewhere in the middle Tate started redeeming herself. She bought a better bed for her house, so James could be comfy when he stayed. She gave back. She was happy. Then she started the 'I have to break up with you before you leave me broken hearted' shit! These kind of people need a fucking critical thinking class. Then after she demands he leaves and he does, with a pit stop rescue from stalker by James, she goes to him to ask for him to take her back. What does she say? "Am I so easy to walk away from?" Say Wha!!!!! You little game playing bitch!

Now don't get me wrong. I like heroines that are bitchy but redeem themselves, Tate didn't in my eyes. Polyannas get old after a while. If I were her, to beg for this wonderful man back, I would have had his name beautifully tattooed on my hip and showed him. (Well maybe a temporary tattoo, but as soon as he took me back, I'd make it permanent, I swear!). Knowing James, he would have fucked her where she stood!

I was disappointed. I really wanted Tate to grow. Instead, it took her losing him to realize she wanted him. Hate those bitches!(less)

I couldn't finish it. I returned it. I just could not get into it to save my life. Mostly because I found Tate to be stuck up to the extreme. I liked this, it was a fun, easy, hot read.
There were a few things that annoyed me, The description of the girls eyes as been like Husky's was odd & repetitive for a while but then it eased off. & also at one point the author gets her main female character's name wrong!

But if you’re in the mood for a lot of sex, you might like it more than I. It was a good story with interesting characters, until the end. Then I was angry. Too many romance authors do this.

I have to tell you I laughed out loud during this book over and over again because I could so relate to Tate dealing with her mother. Her mom is a wonderful woman who is a little eccentric (at least that is how we always explained my grandmother who Tate's mom reminds me of)

This book does read like a first novel in the beginning, there is A LOT of time spent in Tate's head. It's not always enjoyable because, to be honest, she's got quite the bitchy attitude about what she perceives James to be.

I had a bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that Tate's mother, who is in her mid-50's, is living in a retirement community! Being nearly 40 I was initially put off because hey, I don't think in 15 years I'll be ready to be put out to pasture! As the story progressed I totally understood why Mom was where she was but I still think it was kind of young to be in a retirement community.

On the other hand I fell hard and fast for sexy, sensitive James. Personally I have a soft spot for tattoos, my hubs has an incredibly amazing panther on his bicep that's always charged me up! Because I did fall so quickly for James and he was painted as such a sympathetic hero Tate's attitude quickly began to annoy me and I wanted James to tell her to take a hike. No piece of ass is worth that much trouble. Even though we get to take trips inside James' head, where we see how he perceives her, I was still ready to put the book aside if she didn't shape up but fast! But then the foreplay started.

Oh! My! God! Did the foreplay start. And I was hooked. I read last night until I couldn't keep my eyes open any more and finished up tonight in a marathon session.

Let's talk about the smex because there was a pretty good amount of it! And it was all well written. Every single scene moved me in some way which was pretty damn awesome. I mean when you read a lot of erotic romance things can get a little repetitive. Sex is sex is sex is sex...until it is something...more. James is dominant, forceful, insistent, generous and amazingly tender during all the sex in this book. Except for one time. And that one time was so amazingly well written it nearly broke my heart. The issue of condom use is cleverly addressed and used as a plot device to move the relationship forward. This was a very unfortunate time for hubs to be out of town. Needless to say he would have been a very happy man!

As the story progresses I was better able to understand Tate's mindset - especially once we are back in Boston and back into her 'real' life. At first I questioned the e-mail stalker sub-plot because it really seemed like Tate's issues and the drama inherent in her family and restaurant problems would be plenty to keep the book moving. Once again though the author redeemed herself by bringing it to a spectacular closing and using it to, once again, advance the relationship between James and Tate.

The majority of the secondary characters were well developed. There were a few that I questioned the inclusion of, very minor character that actually don't even get page time other than the mention of names, that seemed to be more of part of the setting of the restaurant than actual characters who had a point for existing. I am not a huge fan of window dressing characters, I prefer people who are mentioned to have a more significant purpose in the plot. Overall the book had quite a few different people who made appearances - some brief but memorable (an older patron of the restaurant that makes an unexpectedly funny comment, the only time we see him) and some that I wish I had gotten to know a bit better (I'm talking to you Jack, Mr. Silent).

While the plot threads were tied up neatly there were enough possibilities left with other characters to open up the door for more books. James' brothers were funny and charming and I think either would be worthy of their own book. Tate's sister got enough page time, and had enough issues, that she could have her own book as well. I'd love to see other character's recur in future stories but not necessarily their own - like Tate's mom and James' dad.

Overall More than Meets the Ink was a highly enjoyable, hot, sexy read. James was portrayed as just a bit too perfect and it was unbalanced in that Tate had the great majority of the issues, yet the relationship was strong and well developed. I also particularly enjoyed the fact that not one person called James Jim or Jimmy. Sometimes it's nice to not have a nickname for a character.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more by Elle Aycart and heartily recommend this book to one and all.(less)

Wow. What a great read. From the totally hot awesome lovable James to the sadly mixed up Tate. She just so wanted and needed someone to love her and stick around. What every girl wants I suppose. What a guy. I absolutely fell in love with James. I'd heard so much about this book but honestly it didn't do it justice until I actually read it myself. I loved "More than Meets the Ink". It's a sweet, sexy romance that makes you feel good with just the right amount of humor thrown in.
