Anyone who knows me, knows I am a massive Hunger Games fan - we're talking obsession here! So anything to do with HG is going to be devoured by me.
Being broke - I couldn't afford to buy this, plus I didn't know much about it, so I requested it from the library. There was a delay with the order as it only just came in this week and I had totally forgotten about it.
When it arrived I was excited and had a quick flick - and noticed a lot of pictures, but it looked cool so I put it in my bag to take

Much like with the Tribute Guide, this book has nothing new for real fans of The Hunger Games.

The book itself looks really nice and includes some pictures I don't remember seeing officially released elsewhere, but it's basically just a summary of the movie (and a bad one at that). It provided completely random pieces of information and then left out other, more worthwhile parts of the storyline (like the changes in rules during the games that allows Katniss and Peeta to team up). Plus, it oddly

Me gustó.

This book is amazing.

I didn't buy The Hunger Games companion because I know that it would focus on the cinematography and behind-the-scenes of the movie. But I decided to buy this book because it is centered on the story of the movie itself, which draws me in like a black hole.

It has some additional knowledge inside, because there are insights from Suzanne Collins, especially about Panem. There are also quotes from the movie. And most of all, it's filled with stills from the movie. It's like a w

Heads up, Hunger Games buffs! Here’s another book worthy of a slot on your special shelf: The World of Hunger Games. The book zeroes in on the actual story instead of behind the scenes; there are a couple of delectable food for thought from Suzanne Collins herself, and the rest were the author’s paraphrased passages and information that most HG aficionados would already know. You could purchase this book just for the photographs alone, I’m telling you. The gorgeous, high quality stills from the ...more

This isn't going to be a long review, since an accurate summation of this book doesn't require too many words. For anyone who has already read the series (the first book, especially), no new ground is explored here. There's no new information; it's really just Egan's rewording of what Collins has already told us.

The pictures, though, is where this book really shines. I purchased this book for the aspect of the photography alone, and I was not at all disappointed. I did, however, buy it at a dis

In case you are one of the four people who haven't heard about "The Hunger Games," it's a dystopian book/movie series set in a future North America.

So I was hoping that "The World of the Hunger Games" would further explain the backstory, creatures and civilization of Suzanne Collins' universe. However, the book is really more of an illustrated storybook -- it has a a LOT of photographs, a nearly-full plot recounting, and a hefty dose of padding (how many full-page quotes are we gonna get?).

There

This is my first movie companion and I love it so much! There are lots of amazing photos and it makes me know more about the movie. I love to learn about those actors and actresses' thoughts about playing the roles and how they tried to portrayed them so well. Also we get to know their own opinions about the book and the director's ideas about the adaptation of the plot. What's more, there are many pages describing how the castings chose the right actors in the worldwide audition, and telling us ...more

I actually got this book along with the tribute guide at the Dollar Tree for a dollar each just a bit before Catching Fire came out. It was good to get caught back up. Though I will say this book was 75% pictures and barely any writing. I guess the Avox were in the first movie? There's a picture of one in here. I'm going to have to re-watch the movie now, because I did not see them in there. Though, a quick background of the Avox would have been great to show why people are afraid of just runnin ...more

Not much to this book. The big draw is the collection of beautiful stills from the movie. The text was a sparse summary of places, people, and background from the book.

I was debating whether to give this a 3.5 or a 4 star rating, and I clearly decided to give it a 4 star rating.
I was on the fence with this rating due to the fact that the information provided in this book was basic stuff I already knew all about. But even so, it is a helpful refresher of the world of Panem if you don't feel like reading the books all over again. I also have it a 4 star rating due to how useful and helpful this book would be for someone who has only seen the movie, it provides

The World of the Hunger Games AKA The Hunger Games for Dummies. I wouldn't describe it as definitive...

When The World of the Hunger Games was first announced, I remember there were descriptions saying that new facts and details (about Panem) that would be revealed in this book. And I recall it was speculated that Suzanne Collins herself would be writing it. So it's a double disappointment for me when (1) the only new thing I got from this book was that Suzanne Collins considered the "psychologic

I wanted to read this book, before finishing Mockingjay. I definitely enjoyed reading Suzanne Collins insights. Particularly: "Panem comes from the Latin phrase 'panem et circenses', which translates into 'bread and circuses'. In exchange for free bread and entertainment, the Roman population, gave up their political power and responsibility". This quote made me reflect on how in times in my life, I've let bread and entertainment distract me from my responsibilities. Good companion book.

Last year when I went to Ireland, I walked into an Irish bookshop, and all of the Hunger Games movie companions were displayed at the front table. How could I not buy this guy?? The World of the Hunger Games is definitely a book for anyone who is HG crazy. Was it worth the 10 I paid for it, hmmm maybe not? Really it is just the story of the Hunger Games told in pictures from the movie. I didn't really learn anything new and the stills I did see that we're relatively new were just from different ...more

This book was okay. I enjoyed the pictures from the film, but most of the information was all stuff that was easily learned from either reading the original book or watching the film. I was hoping for more new information, but at least it was a fast read. The one thing I do like is that it broke down the story and the world of the Hunger Games into a very thorough, yet condensed version.
Lindsay
This book was good and had a lot of cool pictures, but as far as new information it was lacking. If you've read the first book and seen the first movie there is nothing really new in this book. Maybe a couple interesting facts about the creatures/mutts in the games but other than that it was just a colorful retelling of basic details of the story.
Kaethe
The text is either direct quotes or paraphrases from the three books in the trilogy, arranged by topic. So anyone who's read the books will find nothing of interest beyond pictures from the first movie. For those who haven't yet read all the books, or who haven't read even the first, this should be a nice introduction.
