Much like with the Tribute Guide, this book has nothing new for real fans of The Hunger Games.

The book itself looks really nice and includes some pictures I don't remember seeing officially released elsewhere, but it's basically just a summary of the movie (and a bad one at that). It provided completely random pieces of information and then left out other, more worthwhile parts of the storyline (like the changes in rules during the games that allows Katniss and Peeta to team up). Plus, it oddly...more

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a massive Hunger Games fan - we're talking obsession here! So anything to do with HG is going to be devoured by me.
Being broke - I couldn't afford to buy this, plus I didn't know much about it, so I requested it from the library. There was a delay with the order as it only just came in this week and I had totally forgotten about it.
When it arrived I was excited and had a quick flick - and noticed a lot of pictures, but it looked cool so I put it in my bag to take...more

This book is amazing.

I didn't buy The Hunger Games companion because I know that it would focus on the cinematography and behind-the-scenes of the movie. But I decided to buy this book because it is centered on the story of the movie itself, which draws me in like a black hole.

It has some additional knowledge inside, because there are insights from Suzanne Collins, especially about Panem. There are also quotes from the movie. And most of all, it's filled with stills from the movie. It's like a w...more

I was deciding whether to buy this or the movie companion. I sat down in the shop and flipped through both. In the end i choose this because the companion looked to be more about the making of the film, where as this is about what happens in the film.
Fans will love this book. It's full of photo's of the best parts of the movie, so many in fact it's almost like watching the movie, but with no sound. If you're a bit obsessed like me, than this will help satisfy your hunger for more, especially when...more

This isn't going to be a long review, since an accurate summation of this book doesn't require too many words. For anyone who has already read the series (the first book, especially), no new ground is explored here. There's no new information; it's really just Egan's rewording of what Collins has already told us.

The pictures, though, is where this book really shines. I purchased this book for the aspect of the photography alone, and I was not at all disappointed. I did, however, buy it at a dis...more

Coinciding with the release of the film, The World of the Hunger Games combines dazzling photographs with quotes of dialogue and a sort of "junior novelization." Which is to say, it tells the story of "The Hunger Games" but in no way approaches the depth of the novel nor the excitement of the film.

About half of the book is made up of various color pictures from the movie, which usually take up one or two pages apiece -- and they can go on for four or five pages. Occasionally there's a quote from...more

I thought that this was pretty good. I saw this in Kmart the day before the movie came out right before I went to the premiere. I couldn't help myself and I looked in the book. I totally felt like I ruined the movie for myself since I saw what the cornucopia looked like, I saw Peeta and Katniss in the cave, and some other things that I hadn't seen before. If you haven't seen the movie but you've read the books, I wouldn't suggest reading/looking at this until you've seen the movie. I guess you c...more

A beautiful, sturdy book. Although the reading level was still rather dumbed down, I enjoyed this one more than The Hunger Games Tribute Guide because there was some information that wasn't overtly conveyed in the movie (like quotes from Suzanne Collins about her inspiration), as well as some stills that weren't taken directly from the movie, AFAIK. Numerous full-page photographs. A great read for Hunger Games fans.

This short book is a good tie-in to read BEFORE you see the movie, IF you have not already read the books (or at least the 1st book). There are photo clips from the movie to help illustrate the book. Because the movie is only snippits (in my opinion) of what is in the first book, you don't get the narrative of what is going through the minds of the characters that is not a stated dialogue. This book helps to fill in some of the voids and gives good general understanding of the backgrounds of the...more

I originally thought this book would be like a guide to the The Hunger Games series, like the Twilight guide with character bios that held new/extra information about characters, and explanations on how the Districts worked and what not.

Really though, it was just a picture of glossy colour photographs of the movie. That's all this book is, and it's not its fault that I, and many others, mistook it for a series guide when really it's just a movie companion.

Nice pictures, but really not all that g...more

A must-have book for every hardcore and insatiable Hunger Games fans! I'm sure that they'll love 'em and just can't get enough. I have to say, it was an easy read. I practically flipped through the pages and i was beginning to recall scenes from the movie and I felt the sudden urge to re-watch the movie again. The book is filled with amazing pictures, elaborate descriptions and quotes from the novel itself. Not to forget that it's also filled with the highlights from both the movie and the novel...more

The World of the Hunger Games AKA The Hunger Games for Dummies. I wouldn't describe it as definitive...

When The World of the Hunger Games was first announced, I remember there were descriptions saying that new facts and details (about Panem) that would be revealed in this book. And I recall it was speculated that Suzanne Collins herself would be writing it. So it's a double disappointment for me when (1) the only new thing I got from this book was that Suzanne Collins considered the "psychologic...more

This book was given to me for my birthday because my family knows that I am a huge fan of "The Hunger Games" (both the books and movie). This book provides a great overview of the first book with lots of great pictures from the movie. It is a little simplistic, and seems to be geared more toward a younger audience. But I enjoyed it just the same. I suppose my only gripe would be that in the narrative portions of this book, it tends to favor the plot of the movie rather than the original book.
Emily
I decided to review this Hunger Games instead of any of the others that I had gotten because I felt that this one was the best of them. This one was released after the movie was, and I can understand why because it had so many great pictures straight from the film itself. If you have seen the movie, but haven’t read the books, this is a great guide to read, as it fills you in on all of the main storyline of the first books. Even I, who obviously has read the book, thought that it was the perfect...more

Seeing as I have a total obsession with the HG trilogy, I loved this book when my friends gave it to me as a present to put in my ever growing pile of Hunger Games merchandise. Though if you want it for yourself then you should either hint-hint-wink-wink at your buddies or use your parents money to buy it(just kidding!) because you really shouldn't be wasting your money on something like this. It's mostly just whole pages taken up by pics from the movie or quotes blown up in size.

Short and full of photos from the movie, this will be a must-read for the younger fan who can't get enough of The Hunger Games. It doesn't really cover any new ground, although there are some quotes from Suzanne Collins. Chapters are short - each is a kind of snapshot of an episode or person from the story accompanied by appropriate photos. There is a potentially helpful glossary of names and terms from the book and movie.
I think this will be a hit in my middle school library.

This fascinating little book filled with colorful photographs from the Hunger Games movie is aimed primarily at kids and teens. Fans of the trilogy and the movie will definitely appreciate the new quotes from author, Suzanne Collins. There is also a mini glossary of Hunger Games characters and places included in the book.
The World of the Hunger Games should satiate the avid Hunger Games fans until the DVD is released later this year. -Leslie G.

Basically a summary of the book/movie with photographs of all the key scenes. To be honest it made me less inclined to watch the film; I was unhappy about how they whitewashed Katniss already and this really emphasized it to me. Seriously guys, film!district 12 is all white people far as the eye can see. Good on them for casting Lenny Kravitz as Cinna but one token effort does not make up for casting Caucasian a heroine the books did not code as white. I'll wait to get it free on DVD from the li...more

For people who didn't read the books and wanted to learn about The Hunger Games before or after watching the movie. It was just a re-cap of the movie. It added nothing to the trilogy or the movies in any way. I learned nothing new, so the only people this would benefit are those who have little knowledge of this world.
For die hards, it's just another book to collect.

A must-have for die-hard fans! It is such an awesome and amazing book! It's also a must have for fans who haven't or can't watch the movie. This is basically full of movie pictures and it's almost like a summary as well (with lots and lots of pictures). I definitely loved it! ❤ The pictures are awesome! :D

So for this, I give it 5 stars!

This is basically an overview of The Hunger Games movie and book, and offers no new information to fans. I would recommend this to people who liked the movie and haven't read the book, because it will give them a little bit of information, but it is basically a collection of stills from the movie. It isn't really a book.
Samantha
I bought this book because I am obsessed with The Hunger Games and I wanted to buy everything connected with it. While there were some awesome pictures in the book, it was nothing new to actual fans of the books/movie. It was basically a summary of the book/movie, much like the Tribute Guide.

This book is for the avid Hunger Games fan - and book collector.

It is rife with pictures, quotes, and tidbits. I do NOT recommend this to anyone who has not read and fallen in love with the books. For those, I would recommend checking it out of the library. For me, it's a keeper!

I also felt that this was an excellent companion to the series – a definite must-have for those rabid fans who are still wanting more! The photos are exquisite and the book only takes a few hours to read through, so you can go back and really enjoy those pictures even more. 

#81/2012: I thought this was going to be more about either the behind the scenes of the movie, or insight about Suzanne Collins writing the series. It was really just a rather uniteresting summary of the movie, but it had good pictures, so I gave it 2 stars instead of one.
Andrienne
Enjoyed this book immensely. It had enough information that didn't overlap with the movie companion book. I wanted to know more about the environment, the rebellion, and the key figures. The companion books to the Hunger Games are now selling for a steal on Amazon.com
Jill
Good for people who love the movie, read the book quickly, or who only saw the film; covers the basics: Panem, District 12, Katniss, etc.; quotes and stills from the movie; best parts are few quotes from Suzanne Collins that give some insight into her creation
Caitlyn Pruitt
great great great great! I like how the book goes a bit more into detail and really mixes the book and the movie together, even providing commentary from suzanne collins herself. Overall, a fun little book to read, and stare at. Plus, the quality.. Is superb.
