Super cute. More a kids book than young adult... Yet there are certain things I think only an adult can truly appreciate the humor of. A young girl wants to write romance novels, "with a capital R". She believes she is so good that she will never have to bother with writing classes or paying attention in school. And of course, she is soooo bad. She reads her stories all the time to her little guy crush that doesn't have the heart to tell her how bad she is. And yet, I had the most fun reading he...more
This is one of those books you pick up at random just to have something to read. It was pretty fun! It's a children's novel with two main characters, Sage and George, 15 years old. Sage wants to be a world-famous romance novelist. The only problem is, she is a terrible writer. On top of that, she seems to think she is very good at it. Hilarity ensues. Her best friend, George, who is secretly crushing on her, doesn't have the heart to tell her she's awful. The school is having a writing contest,...more
This hilarious, very short young adult book is lots of fun to read. I especially loved Sage's writing--romance/historical fiction in a prose so purple it's almost black, filled with anachronisms and always the one-eyed hero. And then there's her real life romance with George, who has been her best friend since second grade. All in all a cute book that would have benefited only from being longer so the characters and situations could have been developed and deepened.
Kissing, Sex and naked bodies under blankets should be reserved for adult reading.I can honestly say I was shocked to have my 8 yr old daughter bring this book, My Angelica by Carol Lynch Williams, home from the school library. I realize she may not have been writing for this audience however this book is inappropiate for any children under the age of 17. No wonder we are having such problems with teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and the like.
Unbelievable~

Two narrator: best friend 15 year old sophomores really are romantically linked to each other, though they don’t admit it (and kiss) until the end of the book. Problem: the girl thinks she can write torrid love stories like her mother’s best sellers, when she really writes horrible melodrama. This novel is aimed at high school readers, though it could be given to junior high kids. (However, no teenager I know would act as these two.) Positive.
Well, the cover is terrible--I think they modeled the girl after the author's photo but she looks too young. That being said, the book itself was fine--a book about writing books and small town love stories for quirky people. Sweet story but nothing thrilling and the cover doesn't sell it. I love Carol Lynch Williams' more recent stuff but I can see why this was never really popular.
I saw this book for $1.00 at three separate book fairs that my library hosted. It sounded interesting, but it wasn't until the third book fair that I decided to purchase the book.
My, my, my. Imagine my surprise when I found myself on chapter 8, laughing and enjoying the story. I never knew bargain books could be that good.
If you come across this book, don't be put off by the cover, it's a gem. If the book is still being published, I would suggest to the publisher that they update the cover.

Main character wants to be a romance writer like her mother and enters a writing contest at school. The only problem is... she isn't very good. She doesn't do any research and has her pioneers using modern appliances on their wagons west. Her best friend/sorta secret crush does his best to protect her honor by losing her manuscript several different ways.
Such a cute book. Had bad reviews when it came out, but I loved it.

This was a humorous story about a couple who are already together. He writes poetry some of which is included in the book. She is enthusiastically writing a romance novel (her mother is a romance writer who really gets into her book. Her novel is terrible, but she insists in entering it into a writing contest, which she wins, because they think that it is a parody!
