17 year old Allison Maney attends Millennium High School in Manhattan. When a popular football player jumps off the roof of the school, students are told he committed suicide. But Ali doesn't believe it and starts to investigate. What Ali discovers is an underworld of angels and demons in the city of Manhattan, and the meanest demon of all is out to kill her.

I loved this book. Some have said that they thought the beginning was slow but I didn't find it slow at all. I loved the characters especi...more

She Speaks to Angels by Ami Blackwelder is the first in a trilogy of books surrounding 17-year-old Allison (Ali) Maney. Kicking it all off in the first book is the death of a popular quarterback from her school. Together with her friends Molly and Jennifer- and a passion for journalism- they investigate the events surrounding and leading up to his death. Then things start to get interesting.
I won't give any spoilers, so I can't be too detailed with the plot, but Ali finds herself torn between tw...more

I received this from the author and agreed to give an honest review, so here it goes. I have mixed feelings on this book. The beginning was a little drug out and hard to follow on certain aspects. It had all the components for a good paranormal mystery. How Tommy got involved with Dameon was a little unclear. Why did Ali feel so strong about getting involved in a death when she didn't know the guy? Things like that just didn't completely tie in for me Also, Dameon's role was extremely predictabl...more

I'll admit right off the bat that the only reason why I chose to read this is because it's about Angels. My nickname is Angel and well, yeah...I love Angels. You should see my collection.

To rip the band-aid off painlessly - There is some editing tweaks that should be done. A few typos and some grammatical errors that made my eyes twitch a bit and my fingers itch to fix the mistakes {Like when Dameon's name was spelled Daemon}.

Moving on...this book starts off with a bang, no pun intended. Ali,...more

This book started off with Ali and her friends investigating a suicide that they felt was really a murder and ends up getting Ali caught smack in the middle of a war between Angels and Demons. The murder investigation takes up a good quarter to one third of the book before any paranormal involvement really occurs. The investigation is interesting and does draw you in but still feels a bit slow. The book really begins to pick up once Ali discovers the paranormal involvement and gets drawn into th...more

Ami Blackwelder, indie author, brings a Young Adult paranormal tale of suspense, intrigue and a little love to Millennium High School. The first few pages of the book bring sadness as the class looks out the window as Tommy commits suicide. Imagine how horrified those kids are! Ali (Allison) convinces her friends that something’s not right about it. So, they investigate and find just enough to bring more trouble to Ali’s world. Blackwelder handles the situation without an overly dreadful air, ye...more

What I Loved:

I'm a sucker for angels and demons... it’s true. Anglefire is pretty awesome to read about, and their 8 Rules are interesting. Really, I can't list any one thing that really stood out.

What I Didn't Like:

Ali was disappointing as a main character, which is sad because I was really hoping that she'd come into her own. She had her moments where she "found her strength," but overall she seemed weak and willing to let others fight for her. I prefer my main female leads to be feisty and re...more

The book started with the death of a classmate, Tommy. People think it was a suicide, but that just doesn't make sense because TOmmy had things going for him and his life was pretty good, so Ali(the main Character) and her friends, Molly and Jennifer decide to find out what really happened to cause Tommy's death, but curiosity can be dangerous.

The Characters:
Ali- I love Ali:) Her personality was awesome and she was super easy to relate to.
Molly- I think i may like Molly more than the main char...more

I was intrigued by the plot of this book at first, as I have a thing for books about angels and demons. I like to read different authors' take on the Paranormal theme, and this one seemed unique to me. I also like YA when written well, which sadly in this case, it was not. I will say that the story had a lot of potential and had tons of great ideas. For me, the problem was execution and style (which there was very little of).

For one thing, the main character Ali, and her friends, are probably th...more

SHE SPEAKS TO ANGELS is an action packed story that keeps you wanting more. School is let out early due to a student jumping off the school roof and falling to the ground in front of Ali’s English class window. Is it murder? Will Ali ever get together with Dameon or will it be Kian? Dameon’s pull on Ali is a bit stronger then Kians at first and this leads to her almost being killed. Ms. Blackwelder keeps you on the edge of you seat waiting to find out what happens next.

This is a must read for an...more

There are many books out there with battles between angels and demons, good and evil; but She Speaks to Angels has elements I've never read in another book of its kind. Ami Blackwelder takes real life issues ans combines them with the supernatural to create a tale of gripping survival, intense romance, and puzzling mystery.

Ali's world changed abruptly when Tommy Bachelor jumped from the roof of her high school. But why would a popular foo...more

My thoughts:

The author wove the story through the eyes of seventeen year old, Ali, the main character. This seemed to me completely ordinary and natural sounding. Our story is far from ordinary however quite inventive. This tale of angels is definitely a wild ride through the paranormal world. These characters must test their strength against the evils of the city.

Through the personality of our story teller we feel the anticipation gather like a silken blanket of fog, caressing her deep in the...more

Ali attends Millenium High School. One of the students has committed suicide and Ali wants to know why. But when she starts her search for the truth, she puts herself in danger. Dameon is taking notice to Ali but now so has another new student named Kian. What has Ali gotten herself into? Not only is her life in danger but so are those around her and who can she trust? If you like a story about Angels and Demons, this is the story for you. I enjoyed this story.

One of the things I really liked about this book was how it kept me guessing. I was so involved in this book, that I could not put it down. I enjoyed the whole story, with the twist and turns. After you get through the sad beginning, you will be impressed with the rest of the story written by Ami.
Cheryl
A different kind of angel story and a very great read. I enjoyed the quick pace of the read, it kept me till the very last page. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a very different paranormal story about angels and demons.
Mindy
What if knowing that angels really existed limited their ability to function? What if it did the same to demons? What if you were the only one who knew that Angels and Demons were real and that meant that Demons wanted to kill you?
That’s the basic premise of this book. Shy, smart, bookish Ali goes from wall flower to center of attention as two new hot guys compete for her attention. Little does she knows that one is a demon who wants her dead; and one is an angel who is there to save her. But w...more

I loved a lot of things about this book, I was getting tired of all the angel books being about the same thing, so when I read this book i was a little hesitant. But Ami has added a few quirks to the typical angels. I will say at the start I found it a little hard to get into, I kept putting it down, but after I got to the middle I was hooked and didn't put it down until I was finished. I think it was a great read.

Not really sure about this book--keep finding weird jumps and slight inconsistencies. Characters seem kind of blah. We will see if I go back to it.

I started this book but couldn't finish it. There were just too many mistakes and it was way to hard to figure out what was going on.

This was a good story. The story pulled me in closer to the end and I was glad that I finished it. I think the 2nd in the series will be great and I look forward to reading it.
