So much happens in this book, many questions do get answered, and,yes, we get to see are friends from Darkest Powers again!

I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK!!!!!!! If I had to choose only one book to read in 2013 it would have to be this one. I have waited two years to see Chloe, Derek, Simon, and Tori again. I loved those guys, and while I was happy with the ending, I was not satisfied.

Can't wait to read this book! Love the cover, I like the Darkness Rising Trilogy but I miss the characters from The Darkest Powers Trilogy, and now that they are coming back I'm even more excited to read this book. I did not like this at all. So anti-climactic. And there probably won't be a continuation with Projects Valhalla and Thunderbird. There seemed to be a hint for future adult books but if it's from Maya's POV I won't be reading it.

Let me first start by saying that I won this ARC through Kelley Armstrong's news letter. If you have not read any of her books I strongly recommend you do. Especially her Darkest Powers Trilogy and her Darkness Rising Trilogy. They are wonderful to get into and read. They keep you wondering what will happen next.

Yep, you've seen that right. I gave 3 stars to the last book in one of my top fav trilogy of all time, and also to one of my fav authors. I also gave 3 stars to a book i have been anticipating and dying to read for about a year. Disappointment won't describe how i feel, more like shock. And i don't mean 'shock' in a good kind of way. My hopes and believe in the author went straight to hell. It was like being slapped in the face, man.

First things first - I really truly honestly think that the Phoenix kids - and their story - could have been nixed. The whole lot. I did not like Maya... Daniel... the Nasts... meh. Give me 3 more books of Chloe, Derek, the St. Clouds and I would be really happy. I just didn't connect with this storyline and these supernaturals. And I really just wanted to slap around Maya's stupid brother. So snappish. I get that he had a hard life but he ne...more Well... um. Yeah. I don't know how I feel about this.

The ending. Also... I can't really see Simon... or Tori... or Kit... or Chloe and ESPECIALLY Derek just giving up like that. After everything they've lost, everything they've fought for. To just say, hey, let's live in a beautiful, lakeside prison run by a cabal? Seriously? I'm supposed to believe that? Well, I don't!

Or - that the orginial gang would be like, "yes, let's ally with these kids that we just met." Seriously??? I mean let's be honest. I wouldn't be surprised if Derek still doesn't trust Tori. And I am supposed to believe he'd trust Maya and everyone just come and join them overnight? Especially when His first impression of Maya is all erratic and snappy? Uh, yeah right! (If you can't tell, Derek is my favorite character - no, a beloved male character in the entire YA literary world).

Overall, the last book spent spend too much time on the run. It was two similar to the Darkest Powers storyline, which for me, is practically untouchable.

Nothing really fet concluded for me either. Not really. The Daniel and Maya relationship felt a bit too much like a easy, happy ending. At least with Derek and Chloe you got to experience the evolution of the relationship. Derek when from seeming like an unaffected know-it-all to one of the sweetest, well developed characters I've ever met. And I loved all the novellas where you got to know him better... Nothing about him or Chloe felt right. And for Aunt Lauren to still be bitchy to him... hate her.

I could go on and on, but I guess it's just boils down to Darkest Powers being better series. Better protagonists, better love story/interest, cooler antagonists and better powers... there I said it (drops the mike and jumps off my soapbox).

It would happen, no doubt. That's why I was kinda iffy on her 'love' for Daniel, I still think he'd be better with someone like Tori, so they could balance each other out. In the Reckoning when Chloe kisses Simon right off the bat she knew that Simon was so not the one for her, that Derek was, but with Maya, she would have continued to stay with Rafe had she not been told by him that Daniel was in love with her. It just didn't seem all the real when she left Rafe and ran to Daniel, not like I liked Rafe, it just made a bit more sense. But overall, I liked this book, because we got to see the Darkest Powers Gang again, and finally got some closure on them, even-though I'd love if she'd write some more of them, I'm dying to know how Chloe and Derek's relationship will go considering they are no longer living together, and I want someone to end up with Simon, maybe Hayley, and what the hell is going on with Tori and Ash, they sound like they'd make one hell of couple, I could so see her throwing fireballs at her tail. This book was beautiful. From the start I loved the series, and after The Calling I hurried off to read the DP books.

I loved the epilogue, especially Page 406. Oh, Daniel, I'm so happy for you. I loved you from the start, too.

A good ending to a sister series, The Darkest Powers. It's as fast paced as I expected, though not as much as The Darkest Powers, but I like Armstrong's writing style for its quickness! I'm delighted to say that readers, we finally get the conclusion we've all been waiting for!

A brief glance at this ‘review’ and you can probably tell that it’s a positive one, what with all of those exclamation marks.

I LOVED IT!

The most amazing thing was that although it ended quite ambiguously in terms of their future with the cabals, questions from the first trilogy were answered, as well as from this one. It also ended on a hopeful, and somewhat cheesy, note. (And, let’s face it, I'm a sucka for that kinda stuff!)

then i heard bout the darkness rising, and heard something bout chloe and friends being in it....

so i read the gathering..... and got majorly disappointed.
then, the day the calling came out i read it.... IT WAS WAY BETTER. AND OMG THE ENDING. THE ENDING. I WAS JUST DYING WHEN I WAS READING BOUT THE REFERENCES TO CHLOE AND THEM....

I loved this book so much better than both the second and third. Kelley Armstrong is amazing at finding just the perfect ending. While I was happy with the Genesis Trilogy's ending, this book manages to blow it out of the water by perfectly wrapping up both trilogies. Maya, Daniel, and the gang are still being hunted but along the way they find more help and sometimes from the most unlikely sources. She even introduces a critical new character that is sure to surprise you. You will come to love...more

After loving the first 2 books and recommending Kelley Armstrong to people as, "the best at YA supernatural romance," I was unhappily disappointed in this book.

To begin with, a lot of the dialogue was just dumb. "Did she just call me cute?" "Did you just flirt with my boyfriend?" Give me a break.

On many levels I really liked this book. It wasn't as open ended of an ending as Thirteen, but I thought it all came together in a nice way, and I feel good about the way that this series ended.

I really enjoyed the book, especially the latter half when things actually happened. Though I felt as if it were a parallel from the Darkest Powers trilogy: they ran, deliberated, ran some more, got captured, escaped, ran some more, but, this time, there was an ending other than running and hiding. It felt as though I were reading the first trilogy all over again. But, then again, every one of the books is like this. The ending wasn't completely climactic, but it made sense. Both groups had no other way to win, so their agreement with the Nasts was the best option. Although Kelley said she's done for now, I feel as though we haven't seen the end of them yet, and a super awesome supernatural showdown is awaiting us in the future.

But then again, Kelley's books are more character-driven than plot-driven, so the main emphasis is in the characters, which is completely fine since she does that extraordinarily well. She knows how to draw you in and immerse you within her world so effortlessly that you feel as though you are part of the book. and the characters feel so unbelievably real.

I was giddy with excitement when they finally ran into Chloe and Derek. Man, did I miss Derek's sarcasm and Tori's sass. Chloe's character was a little weak and Simon barely said anything, but with that many characters, it's understandable. But I was so happy to have Derek back. It felt as if we never left them. I still like the Darkest Powers group better though.
But the Darkness Rising characters were starting to grow on me by the end. I really liked the character development of Corey, Maya, and Rafe. however, it's a shame that not all of the characters got a major role other than to be a distraction or just stand around.

which brings me to...

WHY DANIEL AND NOT RAFE! The whole last 100 pages I was sitting there screaming "NO! NO! NO!" Don't get me wrong, I like Daniel. But Rafe is so much better with Maya. Their interaction is a lot...steamier I guess. Plus the dialogue between the two of them is witty and entertaining. if there is one thing i didn't like about this book, it's this. daniel is a good guy, but i see him more as Maya's friend than boyfriend.

but, other than that, this book was funny (seriously, some of the one-liners are genius), suspenseful, sentimental and everything in between. it kept you hooked and i couldn't put it down without wondering what would happen. i'm glad everything worked out for the best, especially with the introduction of ash and antone into maya's life. there are quite a number of loose ends still, but, overall, these books felt like family to me and, sadly, it is time to let go. thank you kelley armstrong for making me care so much about a series as i have for this one.

Ultimate, while I love Maya's story, I love Chloe's more so I was super excited to see those characters again. Everything was pretty neatly wrapped up and everyone was happier than I anticipated they would be.

I really like Ash, but feel his character didn't develop enough. I'm glad we got an explanation for the other extinct supernatural types, but while Corey and the sileni were made clear I didn't really get too much about the Xana and Hayley. Also we were told Annie was being treated (as was Maya at the end) but there were no details about that.

I also didn't like Rafe as much in this book, he'd lost some of his charm and his character seemed forced. Maybe because we were supposed to like Daniel more. I must admit Maya and Rafe had so much chemistry in the first book that I was blindsided by her realizations about Daniel.

As for the overall conclusion of all 6 books, it's a genius plan but I'm wondering if they could all really escape from the Cabals someday. Losing so many talented young adults (again) that the Cabals invested so much time and money in is not something they seem likely to let go. It seems like it was hinted that maybe Lucas Cortez would help them in the future and I would love to read about how that all plays out.

At the end of these 6 books, there were a LOT of characters but I'm happy to see that the author held it altogether. I was never confused about who was who or who had what powers. This is one of my favorite young adult series and I would really love to see more from the author in the YA genre.

This was the best book in the trilogy, that's not to say it was good, it was just okay for the most part. The main reason I gave it 3.5 stars was because The Darkest Power gang made an appearance and because I liked the ending… Not the romantic ending just the resolution between the bad guys (the Cabals/the Nasts/the St Clouds) and good guys (the teens - Maya, Chloe, Daniel…).

Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous.
