There is absolutely no other way to start this review except with a brief word about the cover. I can't decide if this is brilliant marketing or totally unfair marketing: who could look at that cover and not be driven to pick up the book? Look at those eyes. I just want to reach in and cuddle. Sadly, there are no pictures inside the book. I really wish there were.

This book is written for a very specific audience and, if you fit into that audience, you will love this book. So, how do you know if...more

Due to events that have happened in my life, I have decided that should I ever have children, they will more than likely be adopted. I just don't see how I could love a biological child any more than an adopted one, and it seems like a good fit for my life. So reading this book is a preparation of sorts for that.

Daddy Come and Get Me details author Gil Michelini and his wife's journey through international adoption. In this case, they de...more

My expectations in this book were greatly exceeded. I expected the story of international adoption by a US family and was enthralled in reading the journey of a man, his faith, his family, and their new addition. The emotion surrounding the events of adoption were told in a way that drew me into the story; making me feel as though I was there with the Michelini's. I found myself cheering and shedding tears as the journey progressed. I admire Gil for openly sharing what was in his heart and putti...more

Some people may consider me narrow minded for having this opinion, but I'm a firm believer in "Cleaning up my own backyard before cleaning up my neighbors backyard." There are plenty of children here in the United States, my backyard, who need adopting. Having said that, I now have to say that I also believe that what's right for me, may not be what's right for another. Gil Michelini is a perfect example of this. He felt a calling, he prayed about it, and God held his hand from start to finish....more

I read this book because my cousin recently adopted a daughter from Guatamala and there were so many hoops they had to go through. It was heartbreaking for her and her husband. But after a year and a half, she was able to bring home their beautiful daughter. The book describes much of what my cousin went through...the corrupt adoption system in Guatamala, the legal hoops, the letdowns, and all of the government issues that had to be solved. All in all I liked the book. 3 stars!

This was enjoyable book. It was easy to read and well written. Michelini tells of his desire to adopt internationally. His wife is at first not in favor of the adoption, but she comes around. They use their faith as a guide. It takes them a year to complete the adoption. I liked the fact that the author gives you a peek into the life of the birth mother and her heart wrenching decision to give up her daughter.

This was a wonderful book. I am so glad I read it. Very inspirational, uplifting and entertaining. I have a friend that adopted from Guatemala who I've always admired, but never really asked about the journey. My son in law was adopted from Haiti and his family is the most amazing family that I have every met. The love they have for each other is something you just don't find anywhere and I can sense and feel that kind of love in the Michelini family. This is one special family and I'm glad I ha...more

This is one of my must reads for 2013! This book absolutely had me in tears. I loved Gil's transparency in this book. While my background is Pentecostal and his Catholic, I could feel the presence of God as he told his story about how God lead him on his quest for his daughter. He told of his struggles and triumphs. He tells of his failures and his insecurities. Because of his faith even in times of doubt and frustration he persevered until he received the promise and brought his baby home. It i...more
