I have to say that I was excited to see a new book by Lauren Dane. I love her books and I absolutely adored the Chase Series and the Brown series. So, when I saw that there was a spin-off of the Chases I pre-ordered this book and Adrian Brown's story, Never Enough.

Sigh...Now with that said, I was left feeling disappointed at the end of this book. I have read enough of Lauren Dane's work to say that this is not her best work at all. I didn't have a problem that this was a spin-off; however, this...more I have to say that I was excited to see a new book by Lauren Dane. I love her books and I absolutely adored the Chase Series and the Brown series. So, when I saw that there was a spin-off of the Chases I pre-ordered this book and Adrian Brown's story, Never Enough.

Sigh...Now with that said, I was left feeling disappointed at the end of this book. I have read enough of Lauren Dane's work to say that this is not her best work at all. I didn't have a problem that this was a spin-off; however, this spin-off seems to be a much weaker take on Petal, Georgia. I wasn't impressed with Nathan a hero at all. He was just.......ok. His character didn't deserve all that ego and alpha grandstanding. There was nothing described that "made the case" for all of his ego. He was described as hot/sexy/wanted by many but I never saw any of that in the story. However, I did see a lot that showed him to be whiney and self-centered. I liked Lily's character. She was independent and strong and had to contend with a lot in respect to her family but she cared enough about her brother to make huge changes and sacrifices for him. There really wasn't a happy ending or even much of an ending to the story for me. It just seemed to end without much closure. Usually LD's book contains some type of climactic event. I thought that event would involve Nathan's crazy ex who was mentioned as a stalker and that there would be some type of altercation between she and Lily that would ramp up the energy in the story. But sadly, no...there was nothing! Why mention a stalker ex if you don't plan on using her character in the story for something other than an unhonorable mention?!?!

The proposal was W-E-A-K! I would have liked to see an epilogue where her mother got out of treatment and Chris was in the 11th grade doing well and that she and Nathan got married. Something Lauren...something. But I was left with another big goose egg at the end that left me saying, REALLY?!?! But I guess (hopefully...maybe) that you were left hanging so that there could me a hook to the next book in the series. I sincerely hope that that was her aim and that the other Petal, GA books are much better and a truer (stronger) representation of her writing style.

This book was anticlimactic and dull compared to her other works. I hope Never Enough is better because for $10, I WANT A GOOD READ DANGIT!

P.S. Also, I'm wondering where all the 5 stars reviews are coming from. Anyone who has read the Chase or Brown series would recognize this book as a pale entry next to those. I love LD's work too but I'm not giving a weak book 5 stars because I enjoyed her previous work.

Was that it? Is it really finished? I was waiting for something to happen but nothing did,everything was solved and then he asked her to marry him and the end!!!!
one of the negative things about the book was the huge cast of characters from another series. There were so many names in there that I had to reread some paragraphs and then go find that series on GR to understand who was who.

This story was a very fast read. A sweet and easy story about characters and their problems and how they deal with them and each other. A story about two people who were once friends and lovers, and because of one mistake, made them go their separate ways, but years later, they meet once again, and tries to rekindle their romance.

However his desperation to make things right once again prove how great he really is. Lily has so much on her plate but it is a future with Nathan that is just what she needs to make her life complete. Her love never wavered all these years and he needs and wants to be her soft place to land. This short story is so full of emotion that you can’t help but deeply feel every little twist and turn.

It's sexy, steamy and so much fun. With the multitude of Chases and Murphys along for the ride, there is no way that this cannot be a happily ever after for Lily and Nathan.

cerita dimulai dari kembalinya Lily ke kota asalnya karena harus mengurusi ibunya yang baru saja ditinggalkan ayahnya yang kabur dengan cewek umur 20 tahun, dan juga adiknya yang semakin nakal disekolah dan sering bolos. salah satu guru yang harus ditemui Lily supaya adiknya kembali diterima sekolah adalah Nathan Murphy, kakak sahabat baiknya dan juga mantan pacarnya.

7 tahun sebelumnya Lily dan Nathan sempat berpacaran, tetapi kemudian putus karena Lily memergoki Nahan mencium gadis lain. butuh waktu lama bagi Lily untuk melupakan Nathan, sehingga saat bertemu kembali Lily merusaha menutup hatinya dari perasaan2 yang kembali membara saat bertemu Nathan.

Nathan yang kembali bertemu Lily juga tidak bisa menghilangkan rasa tertariknya dan kembali berusaha mendapatkan Lili. apalagi dia juga merasa bersalah karena telah menyakiti Lily dan, karena ego yang tinggi, dulu menolak untuk meminta maaf.

Nathan yang ga sabaran dan Lily yang berusaha menhindar membuat plot cerita lumayan menadik. tapi yang paling menrik dari cerita ini adalah usaha Lily agar adiknya kembali rajin sekolah. sampai2 Lily mesti ngejar2 adiknya yang bolos sekolah keliling kota dan melompat pagar supaya bisa mentackle adiknya dan menyeretnya kembali ke sekolah. saking ga percaya adiknya masuk kelas, Lily juga ikut2an duduk dikelas nungguin adiknya belajar. Padahal Crish, adiknya itu udah 15 tahun lho. kebayang ga gimana malunya Crish

belum lagi bunda-nya Lily yang stress berat sehingga jadi alkoholik, terus ayahnya yang mendesak ibunya menjual rumah mereka agar uang penjualan bisa dibagi 2 dan si ayah bisa membiayai kebutuhan cewek barunya (padahal tu rumah warisan dari orangtuan si ibu!), dan juga ada Nancy, kakak Lily, yang pemalas tapi banyak nuntut. hmmm... kebeneran deh keluarga si Lily ini!

nah, bayangin aja.. lagi asyik2nya baca yang beginian tiba-tiba aja ceritanya tamat saat Nathan melamar Lily. padahal konflik antara mereka berdua belum terbangun. permasalah yang bisa membangkitkan kembali kepercayaan Lily kepada Nathan juga ga ada. yang ada hanya teman2 mereka berdua yang giat menjodohkan mereka (dan FYI, teman2 Lily semuanya adalah saudara atau ipar Nathan!)

Once and Again by Lauren Dane is the first book in the Petal, Georgia series. This is a spin off of the Chase Brothers. I should just tell you up front I did not like that series one bit. I thought it was a great example of how an author’s writing could grow during their career. If you read one of those books then pick up one from the Brown Sibling series, the difference is astounding. That said, one would assume that any new series would stay on that caliber. Not so much.

We were introduced into the town and more than a handful of characters, some new, some familiar. The story revolves around Lily, who just moved back to Petal and her former boyfriend Nathan. You read all about their complicated lives and got interested in not only the two main characters but where the people that surround them will end up as well.

We meet Lily’s entire family. They actually make my own look almost normal. Pages upon pages are spent learning about them, but once the two main characters get together the story just comes to a dead halt without ever mentioning them again. When I say that the story comes to a halt, I mean within one page. There is an officially proclamation of the two finally coming together and then within a paragraph the book is over.

The bulk of the book was spent with Lily dealing with her family while playing a cat and mouse game with Nathan. Lily’s struggle with her entire family was really more of the focus than the courting Nathan was working so hard on. When we never came back to any of those characters the entire story just fell flat.

Some of the dialogue and inner monologue was juvenile for the age and education level of the characters. It also got a little repetitive. That said, I would probably pick up the next book in this series to see if we ever come back to the rest of Lily’s family. Most made a baby step in the right direction and I am curious to see if they keep on that path. Maybe this series was set up to read more like a soap opera where you need to keep tuning in to see where the threads weave next?

This is my second Lauren Dane book. The first was Giving Chase, which was a DNF (the atrocious writing and clunky dialogue made it unreadable). Obviously, Dane's writing skill as improved because this was much more appealing despite the odd editing issue.

Love the small town atmosphere and the sense of family as if everyone has a stake in the outcome of Nathan and Lily's romance.

Lily goes to the high school to talk to Chris' teachers to see just how bad of shape he is in grade wise, and if there is anything he can do to pass his classes.

One of his teachers just happens to be Nathan Murphy~one of Lily's exs...the one who burned her badly 7 yrs ago and is why she left town. She's never really gotten over him and doesn't want to have anything to do with him. Nathan, though can't believe how stupid he was all those years ago when he cheated on Lily when they were in college. They might've been on a break from each other, but he's stunned by how beautiful she is now, and strong etc, etc...he's all set to win her back and is shocked when Lily tells him to take a hike because a.) he cheated on her and b.) he's her younger brothers teacher. I absolutely loved that about Lily. I also loved how Lily was tough and strong and how devoted she was to helping her younger brother get out of a tough situation with their mom. In so many romances the heroine just caves into the hot guy, but in this case Lily really made Nathan prove himself to her.

Nathan was so much fun. I enjoyed watching him struggle and try to win Lily back. He was used to getting everything really easily, but Lily proved to be a big challenge. It took some help from his Chase and Murphy relatives to make him see things from Lily's point of view and how to win her over. I've only read one Chase book, but it was enough for me to recognize all the secondary characters. I liked how they didn't take over the story, but were there to intervene just enough to make Nathan and Lily see that they really needed to be together-like yesterday. The relationship between Nathan and Lily was slow to build, but once it built it was well, refreshing. Nathan and Lily just took time to get to know each other, and the passion was there, but they also had more.

This series is very different then her Brown Siblings series, and well, moves at a somewhat slower, but just as nice pace. Fans of Lauren Dane won't be disappointed by this new series, and I can't wait to go back and read all of the Chase Brothers books! I just want to thank the author for holding an EARC giveaway on twitter. Winning this book totally made my day.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed in Once and Again. While I adored Lily I just couldn't feel anything for Nathan. He was just sort of there for me. After reading the Chase Brothers I was extremely excited to read more about our sweet little gossiping town of Petal and was even rewarded with seeing the Chase family a little in this book.

Shelves: disappointed, once-is-enough, on-my-nook, romantical, spring-challenge

What a boring boring book. I struggled to finish it. I skipped through several pages of dialogue. I suffered through chapters where I felt like nothing happened. This book was predictable and ultimately forgettable.

What I liked:
-I liked that the characters in it was realistic and had problems that normal people had. Issues like addiction, rebellion, cheating.
-Lily was an alright - she had balls to stand up to some horrible people in her life. She really cared about her family, and I kind of care...more

I am one of those fans and was delighted to return to Petal, GA and to go deeper into the experience of Nathan Murphy, brother to Tate Murphy Chase, wife of Matt Chase. Stars. For some reason this book was hard to get into. There was a big section in the middle that had everything I loved about the Chase books. I adored the Chase Brothers series. For awhile I considered them a guilty pleasure. Despite how much I loved them, even I had to admit that some of the dialogue was kind of cheesy....or maybe unrealistic is a better word. ARC. I loved returning to Petal to begin the stories of Tate's siblings. Nathan was a great hero and I really liked Lily as well. There was a whole lot going on in her life and that made her hesitant to renew her relationship with Nathan.

I did wonder at one scene where Tate was described as a tiny, petite thing. IIRC, Tate was the heroine in the Chase brothers series with the weight issues. It threw me for a few minutes.

I liked Lily and what she was doing for her family but I didn't like Nathan very much. He seemed to only really like Lily because she was hot and a great sex partner and because the Chase Wives told him to. Those Chase Wives... I've not read their stories but they were a little overwhelming. Not bad, I haven't read a modern by LD in a while, ( read: years-ish)
So I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Once and Again....

I really liked the heroine, and her dedication to her family, and putting them,or rather her younger brother, first, though at times she almost seems a little too good to be true.

The hero I liked as well, but would have loved more from his point of view, maybe even more of his backstory....IMO the whole book, was more the heroines story, and the guy was only...more

I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the Chase brothers series.

I felt like the romance between Lily and Nathan wasn't the main plot and there was too much family drama with Lily's parents and sister.

I did like this book; however, I was a little disappointed. I felt like there was never any real conflict. Lily wanted to push Nathan away in her head, but she never really followed through or put up any kind of fight. It's like she said no, he said yes, and she caved. Also, I would have liked to have a bit more interaction with the entire Chase clan and find out how they're all doing including their kids. I liked this book because it was a follow up to the Chase Brother Series, but was a little disappointed in it. The ending was just there, no further explanations of what happened further to the characters in turmoil. Also it didn't even go the way I thought it would in the beginning. It was fun returning to the town of Petal and seeing the Chases again. I was worried they would overwhelm the story, but Dane did a good job of keeping them in the background and focusing on the main protagonists.

This was a sweet reunited lovers story. I liked that both characters had grown and changed from when they were together in college. Their love story was overshadowed a bit by the drama in the heroine's life. I wish there had been just a bit more page time with them reconnecting.

Loved it!! I can't get enough of those Chases and Murphys in Petal, GA!! It's very different from the Chase series and very very different from the Brown series. The Chases and other Murphy sibs make an appearance but not enough to be overbearing. And I was glad to see more of Polly Chase. She is a character you want in your corner!

I loved Lily! Strong and capable yet vulnerable and scared of letting herself fall for Nathan only to have him break her heart AGAIN! I loved that she made him work to win her back; no matter how anxious and pissy he got about it. Nothing I hate more than second chance lovers finding each other again and without any discussion whatsoever are planning HEA. Especially when there's old hurts to get over; it's just not believable. I found Nathan to be a wee bit self-centered. But Lily was not letting him take over her life and deter her from why she came back to Petal, GA. Even when she knew she was ass over tea-kettle in love with Nathan again, her first priority is getting her business and family straight. Lily is the perfect complement to Nathan's "I want to fix everything and I want you now" mentality. And Nathan...he's described as very alpha. You see some of those traits here and there but I was expecting more brash and in your face. Sorta like he was in his sister Tate's book, Making Chase. But I will say he gave me a whole new appreciation for the studious English teacher. ::fans self:: Oh, and the smexin' in Once and Again is hot hot hot! I got hot under the collar from the dirty dialogue alone and that closet scene...lawd!

Awaiting with bated breath, Beth Murphy's story,Lost in You which will be next in this series.
