I have to say that I was excited to see a new book by Lauren Dane. I love her books and I absolutely adored the Chase Series and the Brown series. So, when I saw that there was a spin-off of the Chases I pre-ordered this book and Adrian Brown's story, Never Enough.
Sigh...Now with that said, I was left feeling disappointed at the end of this book. I have read enough of Lauren Dane's work to say that this is not her best work at all. I didn't have a problem that this was a spin-off; however, this...more

Was that it? Is it really finished? I was waiting for something to happen but nothing did, everything was solved and then he asked her to marry him and the end!!!!
one of the negative things about the book was the huge cast of characters from another series. There were so many names in there that I had to reread some paragraphs and then go find that series on GR to understand who was who.

This is a 'spin off' from the Chase Brothers series, and is the story of Nathan ( Tate's brother ) and his long lost love. Having just finished the Chase books I was feeling quite bereft and not sure what to read next, and came across this while searching Amazon. I was excited to find another book that picked up strands from the previous series, and once again the author dealt with some very real issues.

This story was a very fast read. A sweet and easy story about characters and their problems and how they deal with them and each other. A story about two people who were once friends and lovers, and because of one mistake, made them go their separate ways, but years later, they meet once again, and tries to rekindle their romance.

When Lily Travis’ self-absorbed jerk of a father took off with a bimbette younger than she was, he left one hell of a mess behind. His wife can’t seem to cope with much of anything and his son Chris went from a great kid getting great grades to one who’s hanging out with delinquents and may not make it out of his sophomore year on his first try. She has a successful life outside of Petal, but when her brother needs her, there’s no question that Lily will be coming home.

I was quite excited to see a new series released by Lauren Dane, and even better a spin-off to the wonderful Chase Brother’s series.
Lily Travis has left her life in Macon to return home to Petal, Georgia to take over responsibility of her young brother Chris who is failing at school and getting into all sorts of trouble. With no parental guidance since their father ran off with a 20 year-old and her mother turned to pills and alcohol for solace, Lily has taken...more

Once and Again by Lauren Dane is the first book in the Petal, Georgia series. This is a spin off of the Chase Brothers. I should just tell you up front I did not like that series one bit. I thought it was a great example of how an author’s writing could grow during their career. If you read one of those books then pick up one from the Brown Sibling series, the difference is astounding. That said, one would assume that any new series would stay on that caliber. Not so much.

This is my second Lauren Dane book. The first was Giving Chase, which was a DNF (the atrocious writing and clunky dialogue made it unreadable). Obviously, Dane's writing skill as improved because this was much more appealing despite the odd editing issue.
Love the small town atmosphere and the sense of family as if everyone has a stake in the outcome of Nathan and Lily's romance.

Once and Again is one of those books were even there is some smokin' hot lovin' going on it's all about the relationships between the two main characters and their families. It's just a genuinely sweet romance. It tells the story of Lily Travis and Nathan Murphy. Lily has come home after being away for 7 yrs to whip her younger brother Chris into shape. Her brother is in danger of failing school and has fallen in with a bad crowd. Lily's mom is in no shape to help him as she's fallen into the ha...more
Once and Again is the first instalment of spin off Petal, Georgia series from the much loved Chase Brothers series.
This is the story of Nathan 'Nate' Murphy and Lily Travis. They used be friends when they were younger, lovers when they were in college and nothing until Lily walks back in to Petal to save her younger brother from self destruction.
Once Nate discovers that Lily is back in Petal and possibly for good, he will do anything to make her his again. He let her go once before and vowed tha...more

I have to say I'm a little disappointed in Once and Again. While I adored Lily I just couldn't feel anything for Nathan. He was just sort of there for me. After reading the Chase Brothers I was extremely excited to read more about our sweet little gossiping town of Petal and was even rewarded with seeing the Chase family a little in this book.

What a boring boring book. I struggled to finish it. I skipped through several pages of dialogue. I suffered through chapters where I felt like nothing happened. This book was predictable and ultimately forgettable.
What I liked:
-I liked that the characters in it was realistic and had problems that normal people had. Issues like addiction, rebellion, cheating.
-Lily was an alright - she had balls to stand up to some horrible people in her life. She really cared about her family, and I kind of care...more
This book was dedicated to the fans of Ms Dane's Chase Brothers series. I am one of those fans and was delighted to return to Petal, GA and to go deeper into the experience of Nathan Murphy, brother to Tate Murphy Chase, wife of Matt Chase. It a story that is based on old hurts that surface and need to be addressed--seven years late, to be sure--but ones that have the strength to possibly make any future for Nathan and his lady love a no-go. Another really stellar novel from the creative heart o...more

Stars. For some reason this book was hard to get into. There was a big section in the middle that had everything I loved about the Chase books. I adored the Chase Brothers series. For awhile I considered them a guilty pleasure. Despite how much I loved them, even I had to admit that some of the dialogue was kind of cheesy....or maybe unrealistic is a better word. But it was the complete fantasy, IMO. In every book the heroes would go on and on about how great the h was, and the supporting ch...more

ARC. I loved returning to Petal to begin the stories of Tate's siblings. Nathan was a great hero and I really liked Lily as well. There was a whole lot going on in her life and that made her hesitant to renew her relationship with Nathan.
I did wonder at one scene where Tate was described as a tiny, petite thing. IIRC, Tate was the heroine in the Chase brothers series with the weight issues. It threw me for a few minutes.

I liked Lily and what she was doing for her family but I didn't like Nathan very much. He seemed to only really like Lily because she was hot and a great sex partner and because the Chase Wives told him to. Those Chase Wives... I've not read their stories but they were a little overwhelming. They were always trying to get in the middle of Nathan and Lily and the novel ended up being as much about their interfering as it was about Nathan.

Once and Again is a fairly straightforward contemporary romance. Lily has left her life in Macon and returned to her hometown of Petal in order to take over the rearing of her younger brother. Her mother is mired in an addiction that was exasperated by her marriage falling apart. And to top things off, her brother’s English teacher is the man who broke her heart 7 years ago.

Y...more

Not bad, I haven't read a modern by LD in a while, ( read: years-ish)
So I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Once and Again....
I really liked the heroine, and her dedication to her family, and putting them,or rather her younger brother, first, though at times she almost seems a little too good to be true.
The hero I liked as well, but would have loved more from his point of view, maybe even more of his backstory....IMO the whole book, was more the heroines story, and the guy was only...more

I was kinda of worried when i saw that it wasn't a very long book but there was no need.I love Lauren Danes books and this did not disappoint. The h/h in this book had history and the steamy chemistry was there and sex scenes hot.Although heroine was going through some serious things i love how she threw some humor into it but it didn't take away from the story. One of the good things about this book is you get to see some of the characters from the Chase series, and there is a short story at the e...more
I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the Chase brothers series.
I felt like the romance between Lily and Nathan wasn't the main plot and there was too much family drama with Lily's parents and sister.
I didn't really feel the strong love connection between Lily and Nathan- it took forever for than to really get back together and I didn't feel like I got to read enough about them as a couple.

I did like this book; however, I was a little disappointed. I felt like there was never any real conflict. Lily wanted to push Nathan away in her head, but she never really followed through or put up any kind of fight. It's like she said no, he said yes, and she caved. Also, I would have liked to have a bit more interaction with the entire Chase clan and find out how they're all doing including their kids. Kyle and Marc were my faves, and they weren't really mentioned in this book other than Lil...more
I liked this book because it was a follow up to the Chase Brother Series, but was a little disappointed in it. The ending was just there, no further explanations of what happened further to the characters in turmoil. Also it didn't even go the way I thought it would in the beginning. An ex-fiancee was mentioned a few times in the first few chapeters & the fact that she was nutso so I thought we would see some trouble from the ex, but other than one run in which we didn't even get to see inte...more
It was fun returning to the town of Petal and seeing the Chases again. I was worried they would overwhelm the story, but Dane did a good job of keeping them in the background and focusing on the main protagonists.
This was a sweet reunited lovers story. I liked that both characters had grown and changed from when they were together in college. Their love story was overshadowed a bit by the drama in the heroine's life. I wish there had been just a bit more page time with them reconnecting.

Loved it!! I can't get enough of those Chases and Murphys in Petal, GA!! It's very different from the Chase series and very very different from the Brown series. If you've read those and buy this book expecting more like that, be forewarned. I would suggest not reading these series back-to-back. I was worried when I saw this one that because it's in Petal, the Chase family would overshadow Lily and Nathan. Of course, I needn't be worried with an author of Lauren Dane's caliber.
