This book was a below average descent into money making. After the initial Bourne books proved successful, as often happens, the writing is turned over to a second author to just crank out books with the same characters. What results is something like this. From the start, it became hard just to read and enjoy the book. In the end it proved marginally enjoyable, but I have a problem with the overeager setups of many poor modern writers. They exercise no patience in their writing, and with little...more

Terrorism directed toward the U.S. is a high threat for many reasons. Thousands of people could be affected by any types of terrorism regarding the economy or having to do with lethal actions. In the book “The Bourne Dominion” by Eric Van Lustbader, Jason Bourne helps to stop an elusive group of terrorists planning to destroy America’s most strategic natural resources.
Jason Bourne travels from South America to Europe to the Middle East with hopes to stop these terrorists. This book takes place...more

Eric von Lustbader creates such unrealistic scenarios that some readers might get angry at being taken for idiots. E.g. private jets take off in one country, cross the ocean and land in another one without any air traffic-, immigration- and customs controls. But far worse: All his fiction is in some way or another about Muslim terrorists and still he affirms that Irans population is Sunni. If he wrote about medieval Iran that might have been true but since the seventeenth century Iran has been i...more

Ta-Da! My 250th review!!!

I have come to expect a certain... averageness about this series now. After the amazing first three by the original writer Ludlum, Van Lustbader has gone about piece by piece dismantling that brilliance and replacing it with his own brand of writing. That brand of writing is now fully in place, and can be summed up in one simple word: average. Three Stars

Plot: Three Stars

In the previous two books we were introduced to a world-wide shadow organisation that all but ran the...more

This latest installment in this most famous of thriller series really gets a 3.5 star rating form me.This is the 9th book in the series. This is the 6th by EVL. Robert Ludlum (deceased) first introduced the series with the first 3 novels. The story begins with Jason Bourne's best, most trusted friend, Boris Karpov being ordered to kill Bourne. EVL has done an outstanding job taking over for Ludlum. He has brilliantly made the transition appear to be seamless. This latest book is cranmmed with acti...more

It is hard to believe that Robert Ludlum has been gone for ten years. During his prolific writing career he penned three novels featuring amnesiac super-spy, Jason Bourne. These three novels were all made into popular films starring Matt Damon.

The public always seems to be clamoring for remakes and a return to the past. That being said, THE BOURNE DOMINION marks author Eric Van Lustbader’s sixth novel featuring Ludlum’s Jason Bourne --- like James Bond and Sherlock Holmes, another character that...more

Got this one free on the Android Nexus 7, so decided to give it a whirl, as I'm a huge fan of the original Bourne series.

In a word, ridiculous.

The story was far too fragmented, with very little of Bourne in it. Jason lost a lot of what made him, him (he's only an above average "fighter", and only a little bit of angst or issue with his Treadstone life).

What really irritated me was the fact that nary a single character in the book was what they seemed. Sure, it's a "spy novel" so we expect some b...more

I love Robert Ludlum's books, even if they are written by Eric Van Lustbader (whom I also love reading in his own right.) Since it only took me 4 days to read it, you can surmise that I couldn't put it down. In fact, reading it right before bed last night, I couldn't fall asleep for the adrenalin rush. All that being said, the story really wasn't a story. There are about 6 main characters and the author covers a little of each in each chapter. Every time you encounter a different character, it's...more

Robert Ludlum is a very well known writer, creating some of the best books to read on the market: The Bourne Series. To have Eric Van Lustbader take his position on the stories is in some cases a win, and some cases not so much. But, I gave my review two stars not because of this switch, but because of the overall quality of the book.

Throughout the book, Jason Bourne battles through his enemies to stop the one most common enemy found in most books nowadays, known as terrorism. Jason is tracking...more

The pace is very good. I could not put the book down but I was a little disappointed in the end. So much buildup for such a quick finale. Memories were well written and e author uses character's psyches well. I would try another one. (first and only Bourne that I've read). Comparatively I liked it a lot better than Ludlum's "Apocalypse Watch".
I must add that I was a little surprised at how limited the cultural description of the characters were even if he tries to show the opposite with some ch...more

I think this was the weakest of Eric Van Lustbader's Bourne books. The timeline of characters gets way off, and he seems to forget characters altogether. The storyline of Peter Marks in this book makes no sense whatsoever, and I couldn't understand how Bourne could travel somewhere for a whole day, but Soraya was just in the next hour of the same scene she was left in.

I'm really hoping that the next book is better, because as much as some parts were action packed, other parts were almost unbear...more

Finally,

it took Eric Van Lustbader SIX BOURNE BOOKS to finally own this series. And he certainly OWNS it now. It's weird, I almost abandoned this series based on the last couple of books I'd tried to get interested in, as you'll see from me reviews of other Van Lustbader books in the Ludlum-originated series.

DOMINION, though I'm only half way through it, is a totally authentic piece of Bourne-ism but in a special way that doesn't seem to have any lingering allegiance to either the Ludlum literar...more

Recommended to Richard by: I have been reading all of Mr. Van Lustbader's work but guess I will skip this series.
Ho Hum. Jason has to race around the planet tracking down bad guys to kill them before they can put their evil plots to work
destroying the American Way of Life. The only problem is that in this book they are busy killing each other faster than Jason
and his allies, friend (he only has one) or non-enemies can.

I think I have read this at least 3 or 4 times before. The explosive special effects in the movie will be great. As will all the fight
scenes where he is severely wounded, but recovers enough...more

Lustbader continues to aid in the destruction of the Bourne series with another installment of drivel and helps to further alienate what Ludlum set down as his legacy. I remain baffled how Ludlum’s estate could permit these novels to keep churning out with the great author of espionage’s name affixed to the title. This book pushes things further and further away from the Jason Bourne we’ve come to love. Bourne walks around without mention of his family, without ties to anyone in his past. Even h...more

One assumed with Robert Ludlum’s untimely passing that Jason Bourne passed on with him, however the character is alive and well and in the capable hands of Van Lustbader.
From South America to Europe and back to the Middle East, Bourne helps track down and kill the worst bad guys in the world while apparently being marked for death by the Russian spymasters, FSB-2, who send the one man Bourne has ever trusted, Boris Karpov as his assassin.
Meanwhile, Severus Domina, an underground secret terrorist...more

What a relief that quite a few of the characters who had lingered too long in the last several stories were finally removed. It was really pleasant that Arkadin was left out of this story altogether. I will go ahead then and move on to The Bourne Objective with the hope that Arkadin will still not resurface (needs to stay gone for several books) and that Van Lustbader is able to have more 'fresh' story lines built out of his quasi cliff hanger at the end of this story.

I got this book as an ebook on my new tablet. I started reading it, having read the first couple Bourne novels when I was a teenager many years ago. I was pulled in quickly and really looked forward to reading the next portion of the book. The viewpoint is split up between several characters, which I really enjoyed. However, I found the ending to be a bit anti-climatic. Still, I think that I will go back and read the original Robert Ludlum books and read Lustbader's earlier offerings in this ser...more

I found myself wandering off mentally all the time. This was a spy version of Tolkein. There was so much blah blah blah that I got bored all the time. Information overload. Characters with similar sounding names kept throwing me off. I have enjoyed Ludlum's books, but this was not Ludlum. I've read other Van Lustblader books not in the Bourne series, but this was not a good one. I would not reccomend this to anyone, but the audio narrator did a great job at it.

Once again, Jason Bourne reigns. Exciting book. Lots of twists and turns.

Lustbader is no Ludlum. The book is easy to read but Bourne acts like one of Pavlov's dogs. The constant repetition of graphic violence forfeits impact, and Bourne's ability to always come out on top strained my credulity so often. The final surprise, coming in the Epilogue, is too late to be effective.

The Boris Karpov role and sub-plot was really surplus. A smaller volume with fewer key characters might have better carried off this story.

While Eric will never reach the heights of Robert Ludlum, he keeps improving in every book he writes. This master piece has tension throughout(has Bourne finally met his match with his best friend tasked to kill him) and ample twists and tales throughout-in its own right the book is a master piece. And the new characters introduced in the book can easily allow this series to continue in perpetuity. No Harry Potter like early termination here.

Unfortunately the first two-thirds of the book were choppy. The characters bounced around. The last third was much smoother, almost as if it had been written by another person. This book left many loose ends. The characters were not all accounted for at the end of the book and two sub-plots were left up-in-the-air. I have continued to read these as I am fond of the Jason Bourne persona but this method of script writing has grown tiresome.

Hopefully there will come a time when I can read one of th...more

Still not a fan of what van Lustbader has done to the series, and his complete lack of respect for the original character and backstory. He's a completely different character now.
If we treat his books as a different series with a character who happens to have the same name as the excellent series from Robert Ludlum, then what you get is a very run-of-the mill, superspy action thriller. Very contrived and convoluted storylines and uninteresting characters.
Tom

More confusing than most, with probably too many twists, double and triple agents, backstabbings and betrayals.

In this book, Bourne is a loner again, forgetting almost entirely about Moira and is magically young again - or at least all those old age signs have been removed. I like his mortality before, now he's just a slaying machine again.

This was a fun spy thriller, and draws in some interesting current global political and military trends. I wish that Lustbader's Bourne protagonist had a different name, because this is in no way the Jason Bourne of Robert Ludlum's masterful trilogy. So long as I pretend this is about a different character, these books are fun to read.

This is nice book, easy read. Very typical of Bourne series. Characters are already developed so there is not much in the sense of foundation building..More of crisis and action series stuff. I believe this will be more interesting as a movie rather a book.

Look for a new character, Bourne is getting monotonous..

I am a huge Ludlum fan. I have not read any of Van Lustbader's versions before now. All I can say is that he is no Ludlum. With a Ludlum novel - you are gripped from the first sentence. It took about 100 pages before I was really into the story. It's got all the typical spy stuff in it but I never felt the same passion for the story that I usually feel for Ludlum. Having said all of that, by and large, it's a good story, moves fairly smoothly, good character development etc. I just missed the Lu...more

Another riveting novel about Jason Bourne, America's James Bond. This one finds Jason pitted against a group known as Severus Domna. This group had been taken over by Semid Abdul-Qahhar, a radical Muslim who was plotting to destroy the United States. Jason has to find and destroy him first.
