Not really worth reviewing in my opinion. One thing was ridiculously noteworthy, though: The mermaids' tails are of the conveniently modest and young-adult-like clean sort: "By the time I had unclasped my bra and slipped out of my panties, I could feel the protective sheath of shimmering blue-green scales covering me from nipple to nipple and down across my belly to obscure my nudity." Ehhhh? I thought scales were part of the merfolk's nature and not a costume? How can they use their nipples for...more

This is a novelette, and I feel like this is a very promising start to the series!
Madly is about mermaids, but it seems there are other fairy tale characters in it, which I thought was pretty fascinating. Madly, the main character, was awesome. I loved that she took charge. Jackson was...smoldering. Really interested in reading more about their relationship! I would have liked more of Madly's friends Aidan and Jersey. They were completely oversh...more
Let me start off by saying that I didn't realize this was such a short book that cut off right before things really started happening. I found this for free on Amazon right after I finished the Blood Like Poison series by M. Leighton. I liked her work so much that I wanted to read more of her stories.
This book is about a girl named Madly who is a mermaid princess. It sounds kind of silly, so I'm glad I didn't know much about this book before reading it because I probably wouldn't have picked it...more

After seeing several tweets about this series and it's main hottie over the last week I had to see what all the talk was about, so I decided to buy the first novella and see for myself. I was not disappointed! I started Madly while waiting in the doctors office with my husband and every time the poor man would try to talk to me he would quickly get shut down so I could continue reading. Madly was a quick and fun read. Essentially, this is a shortish novella Leighton uses to introduce us to Madly and her mer world. I loved the unique world Leighton exposes us to and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I'm not sure how mermaids and werewolves will tie in together but kudos to Ms. Leighton for originality!

Picked this up a while back because it was available as a free ebook.
Kind of was disappointed with this one. I don't usually read mermaid books, and while this one had some interesting concepts, I think it fell short of the mark. I really didn't like the main girl at all. Not a bit. The romance bit was ..... just was. Another one of those 'I really like her, but since I can't like her do to my position, I'll be an ass/Why can't I like the guy I have brotherly feelings for, instead of the one who...more

I wasn't really impressed with this book, to be honest. I was originally quite shocked by how short it was, but was prepared to give it a chance nonetheless.

Madly James is a Princess and Mermaid or Mer. She keeps hoping the mating tie will occur with Aidan but all she feels for him is brotherly affection. Madly's best friend Jersey Hamilton is also her roommate. Madly's bracelet gives off a strange sensation during class which leaves her frightened and uneasy. Madly is stunned by the death of Lady Sheelah and immediately seeks out her parents. Madly receives devastating news about her family. One thing all Mer fear is the release of Lore. The Lore h...more
There are so many things I loved about this novella that I feel like I may be gushing over it for a long time.
For one is the cover. That is one terrific cover that I feel like fits perfectly for our description of Madly and her peculiar life. Plus the colors are my favorites too.
I think that is what grabbed me right off was the colors. Then after I read the synopsis I was hooked.

I found Madly for free on Kobo, and I admit that I was initially attracted to it because of the pretty cover. Madly is a novelette introducing Madly James and her friends, their world, and their plight when there is a prison break in the Merpeoples’ (called Mers) home city of Atlas.
When I saw that Madly was a fantasy/YA novel about mermaids, I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t like it – but it was free and a quick read, so I thought, what the heck? Then I rea...more
So Sick. SO SICK of these E-books!!! If I could burn them all I WOULD!

Let's get one thing straight authors PLEASE PLEASE before all of us readers gauge out our eyeballs and throw out our kindles, nooks, etc.
A book believe it or not! has a beginning a middle and an end, it has an intro a problem a climax and a solution. I know crazy talk right? A book does not stop halfway through before getting to the climax to go into the next ahem "book". These authors are writing great books and I give them...more

Plot: A teaser of the whole series. It is about a mermaid princess brat who turns out to be the only hope of their underwater kingdom, against the Lores that escaped on their high security prison that would cause chaos on underwater and dry lands. But it was totally a cliffhanger, it ended when they are just trying to start to find the first Lore.

Before sitting down to 'Madly' book #1 in the aptly named Madly series by M. Leighton I'd absolutely no idea what it was about but a friend recommended it, and, if you've been around these parts for any length of time, I'll read just about anything that someone throws in my general direction. This title about Madly James and her world steeped in fairy tale lore is no exception.

In this novelette we are introduced to Madly James and the world in which she lives. On the surface, you would think she is a typical 17-year-old, but in actuality, she is a princess. Atlas, her home, lies deep beneath the sea. Magic protects Atlas and the town of Slumber. Here, she and her friends attend school and learn to interact outside Atlas with the human world. Then something happens, something that hasn't happened in hundreds of years, a Mer is murdered, but that is only the beginning....more

I love the supernatural world but I can honestly say this is the first
time I have ever read a book about mermaids and M. Leighton has sucked me into this world. This is such a different story line because not only do you have mermaids but M. Leighton puts a very neat twist into the book by using all-time favorite fairy tales.

This book was so refreshing and different from most of the YA books (stories)out there. Such amazing writing!!! Hats off to Ms. M. Leighton!! This story puts you in the middle of an underwater world gone chaotic to a world in the woods with wolves! A beautiful love story between a princess and her protector. This was free to download on my kobo so I said I might as well give it a try. I'm always intrigued by stories involving mermaids and the like so this was right up that street. Its kind of a genre that hasn't been abused or over used yet anyway.

This booklet introduces Madly as the teen princess of Atlas, her bff Jersey, her fiance-to-be Aiden, and Jersey's brother Jackson, a sentinel who's been Madly's crush for the longest time. She desperately tries to quell the attraction she feels for him because in the Mer culture (oh yes, it's a mermaid tale!) she can only be with a royal-- and that's Aiden. But this isn't the top of Madly's troubles. While in the human school in Slumber, Atlas was set on lockdown after the escape of some prisone...more
This is a short story (novelette) but it is filled with so much story, and by the end, you will know so much about Madly, her role as a Princess; her betrothed who is actually sorta like a brother to her (uh oh); a possible crush that is not her betrothed (double ohs), whose a sentinel that can be seen as someone forbidden to even crush on. In addition, this is an introduction to the characters; we understand what they are, and how they connect to the human world. We read about a huge problem th...more

Madly goes to a human school with her merfolk friends, Jersey and Aidan. In nine months, Madly believes she and Aidan will get their mating tie, since all mates get theirs around then. She’s in class when all of the sudden she feels immense pain. On further investigation, she finds Lady Sheelah, her residence advisor and handler, has been killed.

I loved Madly. SPOILERS FROM HERE ON IN:
And holy crap I fell in love with Jackson. I loved how Michelle balanced Madly's love interests, so they felt reasonable and real, instead of triangley. It all made sense of why Madly felt like she did, to who she did, and Michelle was extremely artful in building the romantic tension. She used fresh description and made Jackson a virile and strong lead, without being over the top and she made the love for Aiden sweet and real and a little heartbreaking t...more

I very much enjoyed this short introduction to the wonderful mer-world that M. Leighton has invented. In this novella we are introduced to Madly, the mer-princess, and her best friends Jersey and Aidan (her intended husband), and to Jersey's elder brother Jackson (Madly's childhood crush). When a traitor from the royal family sets free eight of the Lore - figures from our fairy tales - Madly is the only one available who can capture and re-imprison them.
