Dragon Ball was an incredible series and I’m so glad to have finally read it. But I wanted to read Son Goku’s childhood stories before I got into what I really REALLY wanted to read: Dragon Ball Z. Specifically for the Saiyans, and the other adventures I know of vaguely from having caught random episodes of the TV show years ago. And it doesn’t disappoint - Dragon Ball Z Volume 1 is AWESOME!

Five years have passed since the events of Dragon Ball Volume 16 and not an awful lot has happened

My goodreads buddy Sam has been raving about this series for a few months now but to say I've been hesitant to dive in would be downplaying it a bit. I did enjoy the cartoons but I remember a metric shit ton of filler shows that I didn't really care to relive via the books.

The jury is still out on how much filler books are coming but the 1st volume had the perfect amount of reintroducing the main characters and dealing with a new powerful foe with fists, kicks, and energy blasts. I also really

This was a great read. This takes place years after the events of Dragon Ball have ended. I really loved the anime. It is great to learn more about the world of Dragon Ball from the manga. It didn't disappoint. There was so many action. I really loved seeing Goku, Gohan, Burma, and the others. Gohan is my favourite character and I can't believe he has that much power within his little 4-year-old body. Overall, an enjoyable read.
When I first picked up Dragon Ball Z from the library about a year ago something stirring inside me kept preventing me from reading it or getting absorb into this fantasy world. I grew up with the anime and the video games so I know pretty much 95% what happens in Dragon Ball Z and yet I simply gave up and returned it to the library. Now I rediscovered this series and realized that there is a prequel called Dragon Ball which was the original manga that led to Dragon Ball Z and it deals with Goku ...more

This is the first manga about Dragon Ball Z and it takes place years after Dragon Ball ended. Goku's brother has arrived from space with the quest of convincing him to join the Sayin's crusade to destroy Earth. Goku refuses and his son is kidnapped by his brother Raditz. Goku gains the help of an old enemy named Piccolo. Together they fight Raditz. They defeat Raditz using Piccolo's special attack but at the cost of Goku's life, with his final words, "Do it!" he sacrifices himself to kill his ev ...more

I grew up loving the dragonball z anime that was always on cartoon network. I didn't have cable until recently, so whenever I was over a friends house or my grandparent's, I would watch this show. I'm even in a van whose name is a direct reference to it! So reading the actual graphic novel was a geeky treat to say the least. Centering on the life of the super saiyajin monkey man Goku, this fun action adventure is full of fighting and giant explosions. While the series can become a bit formulaic ...more

I was a fan before it was cool!. Story of Son Goku, a Sayain(or however you spell it) who was sent to earth to take it over..they have tails like monkey's and have wicked powers and are super strong.
e was a baby at the time. With loss of memory he was adopted raised to be good then go on magical and fantastic adventures revolving around the 7 Dragonballs. It's a good starter manga for those getting into it. It's one of the most beloved stories out there. Often imitated never duplicated. 1989–199

Dragon Ball Z started with a bang! I haven't read Dragon Ball before but thanks to my childhood and a little preface I was able to not miss a thing. A lot of fighting and action from the start which I'm really happy about. I can't believe it ended the way it did! One year before chaos ensues. A lot of training is about to happen.

I thought this Manga Book started off very well. It introduces Son Goku, a fierce warrior who's son gets stolen by his evil space brother Raditz. Many of the events are very interesting and has very amazing characters! Awesome Book.

Dragon Ball Manga was inked very much good, the story of course the best one. Its fantasy meeting Shonen and Goku is a the most imaginably cool and cute and funny charachter. Charachter reminds me that there's just about a hundred charachters here, distributed in thirty one volumes some frail, weak, some strong like hell and some just wierd and funny and humbug. The story goes:- Goku is the main protagonist of the series and he is approached by a girl named Bulma who's in search for the dragon ...more

I love DBZ and great manga!
It's hard to review stuff like this without your nostalgia goggles on, but I still think that this volume was pretty great. It has all the characters we know and love from Dragon Ball, but now they are five years older. I think this was a wise decision on Toriyama's part. You get the sense of familarity from the returning cast, but the passage of time gives a nice change of pace. Progression is something that some stories have trouble with: characters and plots remain static and can get boring. ...more

Son Goku is a warrior and protector of Earth, who finds out that his true origin is an alien from another world who was sent as a baby to exterminate humans from the Earth. He has no memory of this until his alien brother shows up, and threatens him by taking his child unless Son Goku cooperates in taking over a planet. What follows is an epic battle in which Son Goku tries to rescue his son.

The intended audience for this book is probably teenagers, although adults and some younger kids may be i

Raditz arrives on Earth in a spacecraft, finds his younger brother Goku and reveals to him that they are members of a nearly extinct extraterrestrial race called the Saiyans. I am a HUGE fan of the dragon ball series. Dbz is actually my all time favorite anime. Always has been, no matter what new stuff I watch. Still, despite this, I will try my best to not be biased while reviewing this series.

First of this is the 17th volume of 42 in all. If u want to start reading dragon ball, I recommend starting with vol 1 of dragon ball and not dragon ball z, otherwise you will be missing half of the story!

This takes place 5 years after the events in Dragon Ball. Goku is all gr

Akira Toriyama does a great job switching time periods and events throughout the story without leaving the center character behind but instead add new features from obstacles the character faces to having a son. The book mainly focuses on Goku (the protagonist) being the greatest hero on Earth finding out that he isn't even from the planet later on by his brother that arrives from the planet they are originally from. Goku's brother turns out to be an incredibly strong killer forcing Goku to sto ...more

I loved this so much. Though I had already seen the series on TV multiple times, it was still a page turner. If you want to start watching/reading Dragonball Z, it's probably a good idea to start at the very beginning.. I liked how the book introduced each character and kind of explained what or who they were in the first few pages. This is my first time reading a manga in a really long time, so I wasn't used to the reading style. But if you're looking to sort of "train" yourself, then this seri ...more

Akira Toriyama is a widely known and acclaimed Japanese manga artist known mostly for his creation of Dragon Ball in 1984. It is difficult to pin point the source of Toriyama's artwork inspiration. He admires Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy and was impressed by Walt Disney's One Hundred and One Dalmatians, which he remembers for the great art. Jackie Chan's early movies had a noticeable influence on Tori ...more
