I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to read this book. I hope my review does it justice. Thank you Netgalley.com and Zondervan publishers for allowing me to review an ARC copy of Halflings by Heather Burch.

MY REVIEW:
Halflings is an amazing YA novel that absolutely had me parked in my kindle. It rocked my world!

Halflings had me enchanted from the beginning. It was so well written and fast paced that I just could not put it down. I had it read in one sitting. Burch's writing style is lovel...more

Nikki is a boring 17 year old girl who faints and cries every chance she gets. Nikki or Dikki as I like to call her somehow manages to get caught up in the war between heaven and hell. Naturally Dikki gets three hot protectors who DUN DUN DUN just so happen to be half human and aw yea half angel..I think I shall call them halfies, no half&half, no 50:50, no I've got it..I shall call them halflings...unoriginal you say? lame you say? uninspired you say? Well then you'd be 100% right.

I was excited to get this for review! The cover isn't as beautiful as the other debuts, but the story sure is good. I had to read it on my kindle app. Since I don't have a kindle and I hate reading on my laptop because it's so distracting...like seriously -___- So I finally found a way to read the books on my iPod. It took me about 2 and a half days? I stand up all night today, finishing it. It was so addicting, I could not put the book down. I love the pl...more

The main character in this story, Nikki, is supposedly a kick-ass girl who has a black belt in karate and rides a motorcycle. She is leading a "normal" until until suddenly, everywhere she turns, she is being attacked by evil creatures and she doesn't know why.

Luckily she has 3 half-human, half-angel protectors to watch over her. Mace, Raven, and Vine exist in a halfway between Earth and Heaven, and are outcasts in them both. Mace in particular feels inexplicably drawn to Nikki. But the 3 guardi...more

I did not finish this book, however, since I read half of it, I am going to give my thoughts on that half and explain why I chose not to finish.

I thought the premise sounded really interesting. I’ve never read an angel book and was looking forward to seeing how that story line was played out. Also, the summary promised some swoon-worthy lovin’ and I’m always up for that.

There were several formatting issues with my Kindle and while I appreciate that this was a PDF not formatted for the Kindle, it...more

The first thing that caught my attention about Halflings was the beautiful, visual writing. It reminded me of The Mortal Instrument series but more religious since it talked about heaven, hell and God (but not in a preachy way). Peter Pan felt like an inspiration for some aspects of the book, especially the Halfling characters. Peter Pan is one of my favorite books and I loved the way it influenced this story. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the term “Halflings” because it invok...more

When I was approved to read and review this book through NetGalley I was more than excited. First off, the cover is just like pure beauty is it not? I have a thing for the color red I think. Secondly the blurb caught my attention right away. I love the whole angel theme, and this was a great little twist from other angel books out there. This book wasted no time catching your attention and hurling you into all the action. From page o...more

I love the cover of Halflings. There's something about the expression of the girl in the cover that grabs your attention and makes you not want to look away until you've figured it out.

Halflings wasn’t afraid to sink its teeth straight into the action! The book opens with Nikki, a perfectly normal girl, being chased by “hell hounds”. Hovering in the background are Mace, Raven and Vine who have been assigned to protect her. Who...more

In Halflings, the characters straddle two worlds, and when worlds meet, there is danger and promise. The halflings and the one they protect will discover each other while discovering the reasons they are targeted by unholy pursuers.
Heather Burch has built a story that won't stop! I can't wait for the reveal!

LOVE:
The love triangle in this story is pretty good. Raven is the bad boy in the story. He was presented as the one having a darker side. I love the fact that Raven acts like a tough guy, but gets derailed whenever he's around Nikki. I found it cute. On the other hand, there are also tender moments between Nikki and Mace. I also love the forbidden love theme of the story (halflings cannot fall in love with humans). I was deeply affected when Mace rejected N...more

Halflings has a fantastic storyline with plenty of action, drama, and romance—all what I love in a novel. Heather Burch has finally done what I have wanted to see in a triangle romance for a long time. Burch's writing was also fantastic and exciting, she kept me glued to this story with a cliffhanger ending that had me loving the main character Nikki. Burch has taken the half-human and half-angel that we are familiar with and given it a new twist. And the intriguing storyline had me loving the H...more

This book started out with a bang, and sucked me in for an enticing stay. If you love strong female leads, motorcycles, young love triangles, infectious mystery, scientists with dark intentions, handsome protectors and "wolves" you are in for a delectable treat.

I absolutely loved being introduced to Nikki Youngblood and her unique world, as well as her protectors, the Halflings. Nikki is really just a girl trying to find and be herself, ultimately, in the midst of some rather strange happenings...more

For now I just want to languish in the moments I had with Mace, Vine, and Raven as they dutifully rescue Nikki Youngblood from hounds of hell...and from herself.Yet one of them falls for her...hard. The story is packed with so much tension, action, and sensitvity that I got lost in the book for hours, almost skipping meals.

Heather Burch, I believe, knows the heart and minds of the young adult. There are moments when Nikki Youngblood believes in herself a...more
The Bumble Girl {Margie}
Halflings. Half human... half angel.

That's all I needed to know!
It starts off quick with lots of action and you instantly get sucked right in, running through the forest and trying to catch your breath while trying to figure out what is going on, right along with Nikki Youngblood.
Nikki was definitely not who I expected her to be! From the synopsis, I got the impression of 'damsel in distress', but she is quite the opposite - this girl is super smart, gutsy, stubborn and forthright.

Review by Jill Williamson

Some strange things are happening to Nikki Youngblood. She’s been chased by ugly dogs and followed by some really cute guys. And she’s not sure why. The next thing she knows, all three guys enroll in her school and are in all her classes! How weird is that? But the more she learns about Mace, Raven, and Vine, the more she learns about why those weird things were happening to her. One thing is certain: life will never be the same!

Whoo! Now this was a fun read—and a quick...more

Halflings is an interesting take on angels and fallen angels, although I admit I haven't read much literature dealing with this subject matter. But, I did feel that a few of the characters held my interest. Nikki is at least not a typical teenage protagonist of the YA paranormal genre. She rides motorcycles and knows karate, but still lives a fairly normal life in Missouri.

She meets three teenage boys called Ha...more

First Impressions: This book sounded very appealing to me. I like books about angels, with twists of angels, and basically everything, well, angels. And with a girl who could potentially doom the angels or halflings, whatever you want to call them, to hell, is sure to be interesting. I got nice and cozy on my favorite designated reading chair and prepared for an afternoon snuggled up with this book.

It takes a great angel book to really hook me and this one did the job! I loved the story, the characters, all the twists and turns of the plot -- wonderful!! :) Can't wait to read the next one in this series.

Review: I admit, it's hard for me to love angel books, typically. I'm not sure why but only rarely do they grab my attention. But, Halflings was incredible! Definitely in the top 3 angel books I've ever read and I can't wait to get the 2nd book in the series.

Review:
Halflings by Heather Burch jumps right into the action of the story. Our heroine Nicki is being chased through the forest by Hell Hounds and after putting up a decent fight she is losing. Then in swoops our hunky hero’s Raven, Mace, and Vine who are halflings men who are half angel, half man. And the action do...more

To begin with, I received this ARC book from Zondervan publishing Z Street. It is geared towards teens, and yet, I still found myself (with that in mind) wanting to gag! It seems all Nikki is capable of doing for the first 2/3 of the book (even though she is supposedly tough, a fighter) is "drown in those Mediterranean blue green eyes and faint. And if I ever hear again the phrase, sucking in her exhaled breathe that tasted of life, or any other way it is overly explained and used I will SCREAM!...more

Okay. This Book was so bad. It just was. I mean, starts out real great.... And then page 20 or so comes along. Okay, so the main character is Nikki. Human. Three babe half angels come to protect her. I think we all see the love triangle coming. Lets be honest.

I mean the whole time I'm just sitting here like, What! Why does Mace get the girl?! Are you kidding me? Isn't it obvious Raven is better for her, and she for him? Am I the only one thinking this? Seriously!

And the whole thing about Nikki...more

It was a real disapontment when I read this book truly. I thought it was going to be fun and exciting about reading a book about people who are half humans and half angels. Nope, nothing I read in this story put something in my mind that said ' WOW BALOOZA' I just felt nothing. I didn't even want to finish the book. I just read to chapter 9 and said, 'What a piece of shit' excuse my languege. I mean what the deal with Nikki and fainting all the time? OHHHH but the character who really Really REA...more

Why didn't I read this book sooner?! I had it on my kindle for months and kind of swore off angel books once I finished Indebted (The Premonition Series #3) because reading about other angels felt like I was cheating on Russell and Reed? You probably won't understand unless you've had a book boyfriend before.. *awkward silence*

Well, Halflings was RIGHT up my alley. It was intriguing and unique. We've seen a lot of nephilim novels out there, and lots of love triangles, but this book is a refreshi...more

It’s been a long time since I got so caught up in a book that I stayed up to some ungodly hour of a school night to read a book for fun. But Halflings by Heather Burch forced me to.

Nikki wasn’t like other girls. She rode a motorcycle, had a black belt in karate, had a deep love for art, and didn’t wear the best clothes. But when she’s inexplicably targeted by the evil powers that be, she needs protection, which comes in the form of three strange boys: Mace,...more

I am so confused by this book. From the very beginning I could barely follow it. For all the characters, we are told one thing about them, and see them act in ways that totally contradict what we've been told. They are all trying so badly to fit into stereotypes it hurts.

Nikki has potential to be a great protagonist; self sufficient, strong, brave. We are told she is all these things. And yet - she spends so much time crying and fainting that you get whiplash.

Her best friend's first scene with R...more

Really enjoyed this book. I'm always drawn to stories that have spiritual warfare in them, specifically angels vs demons. In this particular book, Halflings are half human and half angel drawn from Genesis chapter 6. Nikki, is a 17 yr old in high school and you are introduced to her at the very first when she is being chased in the woods by hell hounds. The other thing that I really liked about the book is that Nikki is a strong female character. One of my major dislikes in books are the main fe...more
